Pivotal To our Agency's Success
It is our go-to tool when we're onboarding a new client, researching to develop a digital/content/SEO strategy, identifying an action plan for our SEO work, reporting on our progress and more.
- I love that they appear to be continually looking to improve their product. For example, the Site Audit adapts its checks as SEO best practice evolves. The content tools such as Topic Research, while not perfect, are improving.
- The SEMRush reporting function is particularly strong. It's really easy to create custom and branded reports by dragging and dropping widgets.
- They are not alone in that they are contributing research to help the industry but I believe they go beyond some of their competitors in getting out to SEO Meetups and hosting awards.
- I'd love for them to continue to improve their content based tools. The Topic Research, Gap Analysis, and SEO Content Template tools are all great but are not quite best-in-class.
- There would be a huge benefit if they could start to improve on their backlink offering.
- It'd be really hard to improve on what they have already, and I'm sure they have plans in place as the knowledge is available, but I'm hoping they stay in front of the pack regarding snippet optimisations.
Semrush: a real success story for the company I work for!
- Shows us our SEO evolution regarding diverse criteria
- Helps us at finding best SEO keywords and expressions for our content
- Allows us to perform our link building follow-up
- Offers seminars which help us at knowing and using the tool even better for our daily tasks
- There are different ways to find specific information. Maybe would it be more intuitive if a few changes would be made?
- "SEO Content Template" is amazing, but could maybe be more developed
Excellent suite of SEO tools that we use everyday!
When working with new clients, Semrush is very useful for finding out accurate and quick data on the strengths and weaknesses of a client's website and we are quickly able to contrast this against competitor's websites and share this info with clients in our initial meetings.
We also use Semrush to track keyword positions on an ongoing basis, so we can track and report on agreed KPI's for our client base.
Based on the figures provided by Semrush and customer insights, we can extrapolate potential ROI for Google Ad campaigns. Clients can then see potential measurable business benefits, often making it an easy sell.
- Excellent SEO site audit tool
- Keyword volumes & content recommendations
- PPC keyword research
- Domain keyword history goes back many years
- Simple to use
- Proactive and are always adding new tools and functionality and soliciting feedback from users
- Extra seats can be expensive, as [an] agency with multiple team members this can be frustrating
- Backlink data is not great, misses out a lot of backlinks (better off using a specialist backlink tool like Link research tools LRT)
- Tracking multiple keywords, across multiple clients can be costly
For domain and keyword analysis and domain history, Semrush is excellent. It really helps you find and resolve key issues holding back clients' websites from ranking quickly and effectively. We also find it very useful for providing reports for our clients. The content writing help tool in Google docs is also very good for assisting our copywriters.
Many of the tools have got better and better over the years and Semrush [is] always pro-actively adding more.
The backlink tool is ok but does need some work, a lot of other tools discover many more links. We simply don't use it for backlinks. However, for all your other SEO needs Semrush is great.
Overall value for money-wise 8/10 is fair. Would recommend.

Here's why you need SEMRush in your SEO Toolbelt.
As an SEO and Digital Marketing agency, my team and I use SEMRush to do site audits, keyword research, content development, rank tracking, competitor research, link building, client reporting and soooo much more.
I regularly demonstrate various parts of SEMRush in many of my presentations and training classes and love to show attendees how they can improve their website using it's wide array of features. I tell students who ask me... If you're on a limited budget and only have the money to invest in one tool, go with SEMRush. It's an all in one tool and I highly recommend it as do the other trainers in my network.
- Keyword Research
- Site Audits/Projects
- Help with Content Ideas
- Inbound Link Troubleshooting
- Competitive Research and Intelligence
- Would love a way to change locations for rankings to see how clients are doing in multiple cities they service without taking up my Keyword Quota's.
- Would love to see more in depth reporting in the Social Media area.
- Sometimes the keyword research area can be overwhelming making it difficult to narrow things down.
- Can sometimes be a little slow.
Best All In One SEO Platform
- Keyword Research
- Progress Tracking
- Topic research
- Writing assistant for content optimization
- The link building tool only gives you 1000 emails with contacts
- Once domains are in the progress tab you have to manage them individually
- No way to sort domains in link building tool for only ones with contact info
Working in the Digital Marketing team at a busy and diverse agency, we always aim to work smart and find efficiencies - Semrush tools allow us to access and analyse data almost instantly. We use the tools to track technical SEO improvements, to underpin our content recommendations, and even as a sales tool - to provide at-a-glance summaries of the value we could add to a site.
SEO can be a bit of a mysterious art form rather than a science, but data from Semrush helps to inform all of our decisions objectively, ensuring that the changes we make actually make a valuable difference.
The Semrush SEO Writing Assistant - which acts as an add-on to Google Docs - is particularly useful as it translates competitive keyword insights into actionable advice in real time. Plus, it provides a scoring system which goes down really well with clients.
- Semrush Writing Assistant helps to assess and quantify content optimisation and is unlike any other tool I have used.
- The Keyword Gap Analysis tool is really useful for competitor research and to inform content calendars with ideas that will make a real competitive difference.
- The Backlink Audit/Analytics tool makes it easy to see, at a glance, whether there are any toxic links to disavow.
- The Content Topic Recommendations function is a bit hit and miss, as it can pull in unrelated keywords and FAQs.
- There is sometimes a slight discrepancy between the stats provided by the 'quick summary' Backlink Analytics tool and the more in-depth Backlink Audit - so it's worth checking both before you quote any numbers as gospel.
It's very well-suited to content creation and optimisation, providing the keyword insights required to make sure that your content answers the right questions. The Semrush writing assistant also supports newcomers to the industry by instilling copywriting best practice into its recommendations - such as flagging 'hard to read' sentences and calculating a difficulty rating.
The Must-Have SEO Tool to Grow Your Business
- User-Friendly Interface
- Detailed Position Tracking Tool
- Keyword Magic Tool is a must-have
- Paid Search Reporting is often inaccurate
- Keyword Gaps isn't as updated as we would like it to be
- Audit Report results could be clearer
A very complete search tool with a reasonable price
In my department, we use it for SEO and Content purposes, especially for SEO Onsite Audits and Keyword research.
The most common issues our clients need to fix are related with Page Speed and internal errors. One of the aspects I like the most of this tool is the fast and efficient service they offer through their chat and email.
- Support Service
- Issues explanation
- Artifical Intelligence use
- Search Console linking
- Omniture linking
- Search voice audits
The best software for SEOs
- Keyword research
- Competitor analysis
- Usability/user experience
- Customer support
- Occasional technical hiccups
- Limited functionality with certain keywords (e.g., firearms)
- Confusing SERP results setup
SEMRush for SEO at an affordable pricepoint
- Content research
- Competitive analysis
- Daily SERP tracking
- We'd love to see a tighter integration with Google Analytics. A tool that can show us actual traffic along side SEM-rush traffic metrics will help us see how closely these two metrics are aligned so we can guesstimate competitor organic traffic.
- We'd like to see an easy way to accumulate ranking keywords and track them without having to manually enter them. Example - high volume keywords movement automatically. Don't really care about the low volume ones.
Swiss Army Knife for Marketing
- Social Media Mangement
- Keyword Research
- Website Analytics
- Social Scheduling
- Custom reporting configuration
- Better sharing of insights to clients without granting access to account
Semrush has really produced results for me!
SEMRush has allowed me to increase my Search Engine Optimization (SEO) over the last 16 months and I knew nothing about SEO when I started.
The proof is in the pudding and I can tell you that my telephone is ringing with QUALIFIED LEADS on a consistent basis now.
- Position Tracking.
- Site Audits.
- Local SEO.
- Facebook Group is GREAT!
- I don't like some of the pricing structure especially as it relates to the On-Page SEO Checker.
- It could use a little more work in the keywords area.
- The Social Content Poster could be more robust!
SEMRush: The One Tool Every SEO Should Have
- Technical Audits
- Keyword Research
- Competition Spying
- Link Building
- Some of the errors in the audit reports are confusing.
- We have found that the keyword search volume is sometimes inflated
- The paid search reporting is often incorrect.
Semrush is a must for SEO...AND SOCIAL
- SEO auditing
- SEO content Ideas
- Social Media posting
- First comment on IG ability
- Very limited Social Media reporting metrics
- Very limited Google Ads reporting metrics
- Not extremely helpful on the paid side of things (GA)
Great product and well worth the investment
- Keyword Research
- Competitor Research
- Dashboard changes often and isn't the most fluid.
- Can be hard to navigate.
- While it doesn't crash often, it crashes more than I would have thought.
It's not that great if you want to look at your site from a developer's perspective. There are better tools out there that provide more detail and insights than Semrush does.
Why you should try Semrush!
- Good Website Audit tools
- Easy keyword research
- Helpful writing assistant
- Would like a better way to save on screen, multi-keywords for doing related keyword research.
- Writing assistant mistook our own site's post as an originality flaw on a blog we are updating. Could maybe get a domain white list for the assistant.
- Not sure yet if the tool exist[s] in Semrush, but would like a paid keyword difficulty or any other metrics to use for advertising guidance too.
With all the SEO tools out there I find Semrush easy to use and complete with all the functions you need (sometimes to much), to do everything around SEO for your website.
The main thing I really like is that you can make a fast list of SERP features of specific keyword, and make a short list of it for easy snippet spots in Google, we where able to win many top positions this way. :)
- Fast list of SEP Features for easy snippet positions.
- Spying on competitions keywords and make a quick list of them (know what you are missing!)
- Spying on advertisings of the competition, know what works for them!
- Pricing model can ramp up fast, they have all this small add on packs that are $$$.
- Keyword research often shows keywords of other languages even when you filter it out.
For me Semrush does a good job at competition analyses, and finding those nice snippet keywords to grab.
But if I want more in depth link building research I tempt to use Ahrefs more.
If I have many small projects, want to give my costumers position tracking and nice reports, I use SERanking (with Semrush there is a project limit and you have to break bank if you want to use white label reports....).
- Distilled, smartly organized action points for site health/technical SEO aspects.
- A wide variety of tools— it can do almost everything to some degree at least.
- Keyword Magic Tool is a great one-stop shop for keyword permutations and research.
- Navigation controls within the product could be better.
- Can be slow at times.
- Identifying any technical development opportunities to CMS and websites to help content rank better.
- Keyword research for a new content strategy, as well as for overhauls to key product pages,
- Competitor/gap research on others who rank in our space, helping us to learn common or standard search terms and the SEO competitive landscape.
Strong Offering. I recommend it.
- Competitor Analysis
- Site Audit - Problems with Sites
- Paid Ad Viewing
- Keyword Research
- PPC Research
- Bridging the gaps between their products within the suite.
- The ability to crawl every tiny detail of a website is great. Not only that, but SEMRush breaks down problems by Errors, Warnings, and Notices. By prioritizing technical issues and content needs, it makes it very easy to know where to start optimizing a site.
- The competitor analysis feature in SEMRush is extremely robust. In fact, we switched to SEMRush from another program specifically for how robust the competition feature is.
- SEMRush covers a wide range of needs. If you need social media insights and a tool to schedule content, this does it. If you need comprehensive website audits, it does that too. From keyword tracking to backlink audits, this tool has everything.
- The report builder feature is extremely helpful. It allows you to drag and drop certain features from your project and build out a report.
- Since several areas of SEMRush are still in the Beta phase, it can be quite buggy at times. However, their customer service team is very quick to respond and resolve any bugs you find.
