Semrush is being used by our Digital Marketing team to help track and manage SEO projects for many of our clients. We also use Semrush to run competitive analyses and keep our clients ahead of the curve. Without Semrush, we wouldn't be able to offer top of the line SEO services for our clients.

Semnrush has been an invaluable tool for our team when it comes to running SEO audits for our clients and our prospective clients. Without Semrush's SEO Audit overviews, we wouldn't have been able to land some of our biggest clients. We are able to show them where on their site there may be deficiencies and how we can go about making them competitive in the organic realm.

We use Semrush in a couple of different ways. First to qualify prospects by identifying what keywords are driving traffic to their websites and where there are areas of opportunity for SEO for those prospects. We also use it to research keywords, difficulty, and what features of Google are associated with that particular keyword so that we can create content that will rank on Google.
  • Keyword research: Enter any term and get all keywords and questions associated with it.
  • Historical trends: You can easily see how a site has fared over time.
  • Competitors' research: See how sites stack up against one another in the digital ecosystem.
  • So many features: It can be a little overwhelming and I know that I'm not using the tool to its fullest extent
  • Can be a little bit tricky to get out of Semrush once you're in.
  • Can only break down search traffic by country, not state.
I spend quite a bit of time in Semrush when I'm trying to diagnose whether or not a business is a good fit for our services. Prospects are always shocked to see their positioning for high volume discovery search terms, which 9 times out of 10 are pretty poor. I especially like the keyword magic tool which shows what questions are associated with the topic I'm looking into so we can identify which long-tail keywords to target.

I have been using Semrush for almost a decade, and I can never say enough great things about it. It should be an essential part of any serious marketing companies workflow. Semrush is about data. But moreover, having the ability to contextualize data into actionable KPIs. Semrush delivers data in a format where you can use it insightfully, and in your daily decision-making. There are many moving parts to any website. Unless you can map all those data points into a visual asset model, then it is very difficult to utilize this data proactively. Semrush solves all of those problems. Semrush enables me to build my websites cleaner, faster and smarter.

  • It's very hard to find fault with it, as they are very proactive in developing and implementing user roadblocks.
It's suitable for any size online business, who wishes to improve its online visibility. It plays a key role in almost every aspect of our daily workflow, whether that be Website auditing for technical errors, position tracking, or backlink and keyword research. The Semrush platform covers so many key areas of my day-to-day business, it's difficult to be more specific and to say it's the Swiss army knife of online marketing.

It is used to manage the entire online presence of our sites. From SEO, to content, social media, and competitor research. I especially like how you can sort through competitor keywords and filter results by volume and difficulty. It allows you to target search phrases that others may not have thought of that still drive significant traffic. Another feature I love is the backlink analysis. You'd be surprised to find the different strategies that are used as well as opportunities for your own business. Semrush is an easy-to-use solution that allows small operators to find opportunities to build their brand and online visibility. It helps even the odds vs larger competition in your industry.
  • Backlink analysis
  • Keyword research
  • Content strategy
  • Social media management
  • More internal linking/site structure suggestions
If someone is looking to get traffic to their website Semrush is a no-brainer. Where it is less appropriate is when the user is absolutely clueless about websites or ranking and doesn't know the difference between Google and social media They don't have to be pros or even technical. They just have to understand why a website is important and the fundamentals of driving traffic to that site.

As a small digital agency, SEMRush plays a pivotal role in how we support our clients. There are very few functions of our business where we do not use SEMRush to help us do our job.

It is our go-to tool when we're onboarding a new client, researching to develop a digital/content/SEO strategy, identifying an action plan for our SEO work, reporting on our progress and more.
  • I love that they appear to be continually looking to improve their product. For example, the Site Audit adapts its checks as SEO best practice evolves. The content tools such as Topic Research, while not perfect, are improving.
  • The SEMRush reporting function is particularly strong. It's really easy to create custom and branded reports by dragging and dropping widgets.
  • They are not alone in that they are contributing research to help the industry but I believe they go beyond some of their competitors in getting out to SEO Meetups and hosting awards.
  • I'd love for them to continue to improve their content based tools. The Topic Research, Gap Analysis, and SEO Content Template tools are all great but are not quite best-in-class.
  • There would be a huge benefit if they could start to improve on their backlink offering.
  • It'd be really hard to improve on what they have already, and I'm sure they have plans in place as the knowledge is available, but I'm hoping they stay in front of the pack regarding snippet optimisations.
First and foremost SEMRush is a fantastic SEO tool. I believe it's well suited to SEOs, either in-house or agency side, small business or large enterprise. If SEO is not a focus for your business or agency, then it may not be that appropriate, despite the PPC, content, and social tools.

Semrush is a powerful tool used in my e-commerce department. This tool answers several needs as it is very complete. On a daily basis, it allows us to analyze and monitor our own SEO performance, visualize the same information regarding other websites, optimize our keywords and content, and perform a link-building follow-up in order to better manage our external links.
  • Shows us our SEO evolution regarding diverse criteria
  • Helps us at finding best SEO keywords and expressions for our content
  • Allows us to perform our link building follow-up
  • Offers seminars which help us at knowing and using the tool even better for our daily tasks
  • There are different ways to find specific information. Maybe would it be more intuitive if a few changes would be made?
  • "SEO Content Template" is amazing, but could maybe be more developed
Semrush is completely appropriate when working on SEO strategy!

morphsites use Semrush every day and it's super useful for informing and supporting our SEO work for clients. We not only use Semrush in the digital marketing team, but our copywriting teams use it on a daily basis to gauge keyword volumes and related keyword topics.

When working with new clients, Semrush is very useful for finding out accurate and quick data on the strengths and weaknesses of a client's website and we are quickly able to contrast this against competitor's websites and share this info with clients in our initial meetings.

We also use Semrush to track keyword positions on an ongoing basis, so we can track and report on agreed KPI's for our client base.

Based on the figures provided by Semrush and customer insights, we can extrapolate potential ROI for Google Ad campaigns. Clients can then see potential measurable business benefits, often making it an easy sell.
  • Excellent SEO site audit tool
  • Keyword volumes & content recommendations
  • PPC keyword research
  • Domain keyword history goes back many years
  • Simple to use
  • Proactive and are always adding new tools and functionality and soliciting feedback from users
  • Extra seats can be expensive, as [an] agency with multiple team members this can be frustrating
  • Backlink data is not great, misses out a lot of backlinks (better off using a specialist backlink tool like Link research tools LRT)
  • Tracking multiple keywords, across multiple clients can be costly
We perform domain analytics reports before meeting with customers which provides valuable insights into the customer and their industry. This is often information the customer doesn't have themselves and allows us to be viewed as [a] trusted advisor by our clients.

For domain and keyword analysis and domain history, Semrush is excellent. It really helps you find and resolve key issues holding back clients' websites from ranking quickly and effectively. We also find it very useful for providing reports for our clients. The content writing help tool in Google docs is also very good for assisting our copywriters.

Many of the tools have got better and better over the years and Semrush [is] always pro-actively adding more.

The backlink tool is ok but does need some work, a lot of other tools discover many more links. We simply don't use it for backlinks. However, for all your other SEO needs Semrush is great.

Overall value for money-wise 8/10 is fair. Would recommend.

I've been a huge fan of SEMRush for about 7 years now. I love how they continually add new features, tools and other ways to help my clients and my own sites succeed.

As an SEO and Digital Marketing agency, my team and I use SEMRush to do site audits, keyword research, content development, rank tracking, competitor research, link building, client reporting and soooo much more.

I regularly demonstrate various parts of SEMRush in many of my presentations and training classes and love to show attendees how they can improve their website using it's wide array of features. I tell students who ask me... If you're on a limited budget and only have the money to invest in one tool, go with SEMRush. It's an all in one tool and I highly recommend it as do the other trainers in my network.
  • Keyword Research
  • Site Audits/Projects
  • Help with Content Ideas
  • Inbound Link Troubleshooting
  • Competitive Research and Intelligence
  • Would love a way to change locations for rankings to see how clients are doing in multiple cities they service without taking up my Keyword Quota's.
  • Would love to see more in depth reporting in the Social Media area.
  • Sometimes the keyword research area can be overwhelming making it difficult to narrow things down.
  • Can sometimes be a little slow.
Amazing tool if you are an Agency with clients. Also great if you are a smaller company or a company with a single website and need an all in one tool to improve your sites potential in the Search Engines.

We use Semrush on a weekly basis for keyword research and to track our competitor's progress. We also track ranking progress using visibility and keyword position. The sheer power and visibility Semrtush gives you is phenomenal, it certainly gives you an advantage over competitors not using this tool. I would recommend this tool without hesitation.
  • Keyword Research
  • Progress Tracking
  • Topic research
  • Writing assistant for content optimization
  • The link building tool only gives you 1000 emails with contacts
  • Once domains are in the progress tab you have to manage them individually
  • No way to sort domains in link building tool for only ones with contact info
Semrush is well suited to all SEO efforts. It is an all-in-one platform and makes the need for another SEO tool unnecessary. The only thing you would need aside from Semrush is a dedicated link-building tool such as Postaga. The link-building tool within Semrush is great but doesn't send automated emails or personalized ones.

I use Semrush every day and it's invaluable in informing and supporting our search engine optimisation for clients.
Working in the Digital Marketing team at a busy and diverse agency, we always aim to work smart and find efficiencies - Semrush tools allow us to access and analyse data almost instantly. We use the tools to track technical SEO improvements, to underpin our content recommendations, and even as a sales tool - to provide at-a-glance summaries of the value we could add to a site.

SEO can be a bit of a mysterious art form rather than a science, but data from Semrush helps to inform all of our decisions objectively, ensuring that the changes we make actually make a valuable difference.

The Semrush SEO Writing Assistant - which acts as an add-on to Google Docs - is particularly useful as it translates competitive keyword insights into actionable advice in real time. Plus, it provides a scoring system which goes down really well with clients.
  • Semrush Writing Assistant helps to assess and quantify content optimisation and is unlike any other tool I have used.
  • The Keyword Gap Analysis tool is really useful for competitor research and to inform content calendars with ideas that will make a real competitive difference.
  • The Backlink Audit/Analytics tool makes it easy to see, at a glance, whether there are any toxic links to disavow.
  • The Content Topic Recommendations function is a bit hit and miss, as it can pull in unrelated keywords and FAQs.
  • There is sometimes a slight discrepancy between the stats provided by the 'quick summary' Backlink Analytics tool and the more in-depth Backlink Audit - so it's worth checking both before you quote any numbers as gospel.
I would definitely recommend Semrush as I would find it difficult to do my job without it!

It's very well-suited to content creation and optimisation, providing the keyword insights required to make sure that your content answers the right questions. The Semrush writing assistant also supports newcomers to the industry by instilling copywriting best practice into its recommendations - such as flagging 'hard to read' sentences and calculating a difficulty rating.

At 99.co, we use Semrush for both our Singapore and Indonesia (ID) markets, where it’s especially important for Keyword Research use by our ID Content Team. It has recently been adopted by our SG Editorial Team as well. It helps address content gap issues and improve our keyword rankings, as we aim to improve the organic traffic throughout our site.
  • User-Friendly Interface
  • Detailed Position Tracking Tool
  • Keyword Magic Tool is a must-have
  • Paid Search Reporting is often inaccurate
  • Keyword Gaps isn't as updated as we would like it to be
  • Audit Report results could be clearer
For Keyword Research, Semrush is an absolute must-have tool. It's simple to use and identifies the keyword gaps that help us identify content opportunities that our competitors have an edge over us. I definitely recommend to my colleagues that there are many tools on Semrush and to understand them all, it would be best to go through all the courses/classes they offer to better understand the platform.

We work with Semrush across the whole company, each agency for their own digital areas. We usually share reports to bring the client with the best information possible.
In my department, we use it for SEO and Content purposes, especially for SEO Onsite Audits and Keyword research.
The most common issues our clients need to fix are related with Page Speed and internal errors. One of the aspects I like the most of this tool is the fast and efficient service they offer through their chat and email.
  • Support Service
  • Issues explanation
  • Artifical Intelligence use

[Semrush] is used to support our product dev decisions as well as our content marketing teams. We use [Semrush] to inform content, keep an eye on competitors, do market research and find trends. We audit our content regularly and also use the audit tool for SEO gut-checks.
  • Content research
  • Competitive analysis
  • Daily SERP tracking
  • We'd love to see a tighter integration with Google Analytics. A tool that can show us actual traffic along side SEM-rush traffic metrics will help us see how closely these two metrics are aligned so we can guesstimate competitor organic traffic.
  • We'd like to see an easy way to accumulate ranking keywords and track them without having to manually enter them. Example - high volume keywords movement automatically. Don't really care about the low volume ones.

I am a trusted CPA who... solves IRS problems.

SEMRush has allowed me to increase my Search Engine Optimization (SEO) over the last 16 months and I knew nothing about SEO when I started.

The proof is in the pudding and I can tell you that my telephone is ringing with QUALIFIED LEADS on a consistent basis now.
  • Position Tracking.
  • Site Audits.
  • Local SEO.
  • Facebook Group is GREAT!
  • I don't like some of the pricing structure especially as it relates to the On-Page SEO Checker.
  • It could use a little more work in the keywords area.
  • The Social Content Poster could be more robust!

Beyond that, with any new clients we use this tool to perform technical site audits. • We have found that the keyword search volume is sometimes inflated
  • The paid search reporting is often incorrect.
[Semrush] is perfect for anyone owning a marketing firm or even a single company looking to get ahead of the competition. I have worked with clients that purchased the software on their own, and never really used it enough, or became confused with all the different reporting. I always recommend new clients that want to purchase [Semrush] to go through all the courses/classes they offer to better understand the platform.

Semrush has been an incredible tool. It easily and effectively allows us to audit and perform SEO tasks across multiple client websites. It also is an easy reporting tool, letting you set up and automate reports for various types of clients. We also manage our clients organic social media through Semrush as well. The insights and posting abilities are a a huge help to our social media team.
  • SEO auditing
  • SEO content Ideas
  • Social Media posting
  • First comment on IG ability
  • Very limited Social Media reporting metrics
  • Very limited Google Ads reporting metrics
  • Not extremely helpful on the paid side of things (GA)
Any SEO manager needs Semrush.

We use Semrush in the marketing department for our own site and client sites. Our organization covers multiple services, but we only use it for marketing/SEO clients. It helps us perform site audits, look at competitors, plan our PPC campaigns, and evaluate site performance. It's helped us out a lot.
  • Keyword Research
  • Competitor Research
  • Dashboard changes often and isn't the most fluid.
  • Can be hard to navigate.
  • While it doesn't crash often, it crashes more than I would have thought.
It's great if you're trying to get the overall feel and take a top-down approach to a website. It's the first tool we use when starting a site audit or want to examine a competitor.

It's not that great if you want to look at your site from a developer's perspective. There are better tools out there that provide more detail and insights than Semrush does.

We use Semrush for all of our own SEO needs and we also use it as a service we provide for our clients. It helps bring organic traffic by making informed decisions. We are currently trying out the writing assistant and so far it helps out writing out blog content.
  • Good Website Audit tools
  • Easy keyword research
  • Helpful writing assistant
  • Would like a better way to save on screen, multi-keywords for doing related keyword research.
  • Writing assistant mistook our own site's post as an originality flaw on a blog we are updating. Could maybe get a domain white list for the assistant.
  • Not sure yet if the tool exist[s] in Semrush, but would like a paid keyword difficulty or any other metrics to use for advertising guidance too.
Semrush is helping us offer new services with improved quality. Understanding SEO is easy with Semrush if you already have [an] understanding of SEO. Writing out content on your own is a guessing game without Semrush. It is a great tool, especially if your website or your clients' is under performing traffic-wise. The backlinks features are also great.

Semrush is our go to SEO and SEA research tool, we use it to analyze the competition, make keyword lists.
With all the SEO tools out there I find Semrush easy to use and complete with all the functions you need (sometimes to much), to do everything around SEO for your website.

The main thing I really like is that you can make a fast list of SERP features of specific keyword, and make a short list of it for easy snippet spots in Google, we where able to win many top positions this way. :)
  • Fast list of SEP Features for easy snippet positions.
  • Spying on competitions keywords and make a quick list of them (know what you are missing!)
  • Spying on advertisings of the competition, know what works for them!
  • Pricing model can ramp up fast, they have all this small add on packs that are $$$.
  • Keyword research often shows keywords of other languages even when you filter it out.
If you look into SEO tools there are many players in the market. And 1 is not really better then the other in my opinion but does specific things better. If you look at the top players you get Semrush, Ahrefs and SERanking is getting there.

For me Semrush does a good job at competition analyses, and finding those nice snippet keywords to grab.
But if I want more in depth link building research I tempt to use Ahrefs more.
If I have many small projects, want to give my costumers position tracking and nice reports, I use SERanking (with Semrush there is a project limit and you have to break bank if you want to use white label reports....).

Used for keyword/topic research, SEO reporting, and monitoring.
  • Distilled, smartly organized action points for site health/technical SEO aspects.
  • A wide variety of tools— it can do almost everything to some degree at least.
  • Keyword Magic Tool is a great one-stop shop for keyword permutations and research.
  • Navigation controls within the product could be better.
  • Can be slow at times.
Semrush has been great for all of the following scenarios:
  • Identifying any technical development opportunities to CMS and websites to help content rank better.
  • Keyword research for a new content strategy, as well as for overhauls to key product pages,
  • Competitor/gap research on others who rank in our space, helping us to learn common or standard search terms and the SEO competitive landscape.

We use it for a variety of clients, especially ecommerce. It's pretty robust. A bit of a learning curve, but it's continually evolving and it seems becoming a bit more user-friendly. When I want to research a specific part or analyze a client or competitor, Semrush has what I need to do so.
  • Competitor Analysis
  • Site Audit - Problems with Sites
  • Paid Ad Viewing
  • Keyword Research
  • PPC Research
  • Bridging the gaps between their products within the suite.
It's strong for someone who's pretty OCD like myself. I am always shooting for 90+ out of 100 on their site audit tool. It is very helpful to know where things are broken. Using Semrush religiously sets us apart from other providers in our space. It shows our dedication and attention to detail without a lot of manual work.

I work for an internet company, so understanding SEO and SEM is of extreme value to us. While our core competency and product delivery has been website design and development for nearly 20 years, we've recently made a huge push toward digital marketing for clients. As the digital strategist on the team, it's necessary for me to be able to track SEO progress, competitors, etc. This tool is only used by our digital marketing team.
  • The ability to crawl every tiny detail of a website is great. Not only that, but SEMRush breaks down problems by Errors, Warnings, and Notices. By prioritizing technical issues and content needs, it makes it very easy to know where to start optimizing a site.
  • The competitor analysis feature in SEMRush is extremely robust. In fact, we switched to SEMRush from another program specifically for how robust the competition feature is.
  • SEMRush covers a wide range of needs. If you need social media insights and a tool to schedule content, this does it. If you need comprehensive website audits, it does that too. From keyword tracking to backlink audits, this tool has everything.
  • The report builder feature is extremely helpful. It allows you to drag and drop certain features from your project and build out a report.
  • Since several areas of SEMRush are still in the Beta phase, it can be quite buggy at times. However, their customer service team is very quick to respond and resolve any bugs you find.
If you need to audit backlinks, this tool does it. If you want to analyze your keywords and assess content page by page, it does that too. Essentially, any need you run into in the digital strategy world, SEMRush has a solution. It can be time-consuming, as the learning curve is pretty steep. But it's an excellent resource.
