My license of Veeam [Backup & Replication] is used exclusively in our US office. It is being used by my department only. We use this product to backup all of our Test and Development machines. Since we do a lot of testing and development so it is nice to have Veeam [Backup & Replication] in the picture as mistakes happen and we can quickly restore any of these these Virtual Machines in case of an error that may be to hard to recover from in the development process. It is also an excellent tool to use for Archive. The compression and speed of the backup processes are very exceptional.
  • Backup of a Virtual Machine is fast, Restores are fast as well.
  • Flexibility of storage Media
  • Compression of data is great to minimize backup storage cost
  • Product stability and ease of use.
  • I do not have anything to complain about.
[Veeam Backup & Replication] is well suited for an environment that has many Virtual Machines and you want to insure that a restore can happen quickly. It is well suited for restoring the entire machine but not for restoring individual files within a machine.

I have had many issues where developer makes a fatal mistake with an environment. It is very quick to restore the machine and put it back to a restore point prior to the mistake.

We also preform clean ups of Virtual Machines on a quarterly basis. Usually about 10% of the machines we remove from inventory are required at a later date. With Veeam [Backup & Replication], I can quickly get these Virtual Machines back online with out costing major grief and expense to get machine back on and configured as it was.

[Veeam Backup & Replication] is used by the IT department. It provides protection against data loss and business continuity in the event that the main data center fails.
  • Reverse incremental backups - means that the most recent backup is always the full one so restores are quicker.
  • Replication to 2nd cluster - really easy to setup and arrange. Works every time.
  • Backup encryption. Keeps the backups secure in case of intrusion.
  • Speed - it is not always the fastest and one slow job can throw out the schedules for all other jobs.
  • There's no intelligent scheduling option. I would like to be able to schedule an order and have veeam back up all the vms in that order, taking account of their particular requirements (e.g. exchange aware etc). At the moment you have to create different jobs for each type of backup and "guess" how long it will take.
  • Backup is limited in destinations in my experience.
General backup of a virtualized environment, taking account of the different requires of backups, e.g. application awareness, truncation of logs etc.

We use Veeam Backup & Replication in [our] IT department [to] backup critical data, entire virtual machine infrastructure and some windows server with Veeam's agent.
With Veeam Backup & Replication we are able to backup on tape library for a more [securing] of our [data] backup.
  • Backup easily but exhaustively of virtual infrastructure
  • Replica of vm to another host
  • Backup on tape
  • Backup to tape could be improved
  • Possibility to use only one tape library with more than one Veeam installation (sharing tape library)
  • Adding failover / clustering function
Veeam [Backup & Replication] is usable in multiple scenarios. I can suggest it for backup of virtual infrastructure, but also for backup of AD or SQL DB, but also for backup of single server / machine

As a started my career as an engineer in 2009, we started using Veeeam Backup version 3! Today, in 2021, we are still using Veeam Backup as our one-and-only backup solution. We have already virtualized our complete backend in 2009. Meanwhile, our backend (>750 Virtual Servers) is protected by a daily backup using the latest version of Veeam Backup and Replication. We are using Dell-EMC Datadomain as a backup target. DDBoost makes it possible to create a 'full' backup every day.
  • Veeam Backup was originally created for backing up the virtual environment. This makes Veeam Backup unique compared to other backup competitors.
  • Instant Restore is really cool feature that allows you to instantly run a virtual machine from your backup. Restoring the server comes second. Firstly you want to bring the virtual machine back into production.
  • The last 10 years they kept developing their product. Their focus is and was build on virtual environments.
Nowadays Veeam is also capable of creating a backup of physical machines. However, most features are still built on and for virtual environments. If your IT-infrastructure is virtualized for the better part, then Veeam is the way to go. Integration between Veeam and VMware is great. I never figured out why VMware didn't acquire Veeam.

Veeam is used for backup of essential VM. Recovery is as easy as boiling an egg. For quick recovery, we use VM copy. It allows us to start a VM to yesterday's state after a crash. Recovery of files in a VM is done with a file explorer like interface. Same for SQL recovery. Simple interface, easy to use.
  • Instant VM recovery. If on a disk, VM is restored instantly.
  • Explorer like restore makes it easier.
  • VM copy to different data stores in different locations in case of disaster.
  • VMWare GUI integration.
Backup of VM is easy. I used Inc’s forever. Backup time is really quick now. I have time to do more back tasks in one night. Before Veeam, it was not possible.

We use [Veeam] Backup & Replication as a department, but backing up organization data as a whole.

This solves the need to store physical backups. We used to have physical tape drives that we would have to send off to Recall. With the pandemic, going into the office was not allowed.
  • Restoring backups are very simple and the GUI is well thought out.
  • Great support and user community
  • The Scale Out Repository setup could be simplified or more intuitive.
As described earlier, with the pandemic hitting, we used to backup to tape, then send our tapes off to Recall. It was a very clunky process and not very efficient. The need to get backups offsite without a manual process was a requirement with COVID and not being able to be in the building. It offloads backups to Azure (in our case) very efficiently.

Use Veeam [Backup & Replication] to backup 2 sites worth of VMs and replicate to DR site which is off site.

Currently all backups are done using Veeam [Backup & Replication] along with all restores.
  • DR Capabilites of spinning up replicated VMs instantly
  • Exploring application items such as databses or Exchange items
  • Automatically setup of DR recovery when VM fails
  • Setup of proxies and best practices isn't explained greatly
  • Slow termination of jobs

We utilize Veeam Backup & Replication for all of our customer-focused applications in multiple locations, including two colocations in diverse locations. It has successfully allowed us to build backup and recovery redundancy in order to ensure our apps continue to run and process customer data with appropriate security.
  • Windows library structures are easily identified for restoration
  • Restores, in general, are easy to do
  • Replication of data structures to other servers
  • Better method to back up desktop and laptops
  • Improvement of deduping methods
  • Better error descriptions for troubleshooting
Veeam Backup & Replication is very well suited for file-level recovery as well as for full VM recovery when a VM snapshot is unavailable. It is a must-have tool for IT to be able to recover from a malware/ransomware attack. It now works great in backup and replication to cloud storage. As a user of many backup solutions through the years I cannot think of a better solution than Veeam Backup & Replication.

We use it over the entire company. It is our backup and replication solution. We backup locally and send that to a secondary site. We also replicate VM images to our Recovery cluster. Testing of this has always gone very well and other than some DNS work is flawless. Great product that takes care of what you need for backup and recovery in a disaster.
  • restore of individual files
  • total restore of Virtual machines
  • replication of VM's to secondary site
  • integration with AD
  • DNS update on the fly
  • Machine rename to replace missing machines
General backup and recovery it is the best. Replication is outstanding, Individual File recovery had saved us many times on our departmental servers. In replication you can snapshot the replicas about every 5 minutes to cover any changes to cover your main systems. We do this with all or SQL servers and has been excellent when issues arise.

We back up our production (primary infrastructure) hive via Veeam BR to a FreeNAS device. Some of these are virtual, done via vceneter tagging, the rest are physical, done via agents. We then copy the backup to another FreaNAS offsite.
  • File Level Restoring
  • RPO based tag reading across vcenter
  • SQL truncation
  • Better interoperability with AWS tiers
  • Better design for the UI or description - currently too difficult to guess what does what
  • Can be very error prone even if a little scheduling conflict takes place
Appropriate:
Large production hives, where it's mostly VC based

Inappropriate:
Small to medium companies where servers need to be active a lot, leaving little in a backup window

[Veeam Backup & Replication is] great for backup and DR sites. The ease of use to setup and run the system is great. We are using Veeam to backup data and also replicate the backups as a copy to our data center and vice versa for disaster recovery. Instant VM recovery and also file explorer based recovery to meet our SLA goal of recovery in minutes or at least less than 24 hours.Backup of Hyper-V VM's and physical backup of some desktops with endpoint backup.
  • Application aware backup
  • Instant VM recovery
  • Fast backup
  • DR recovery and replication
  • Portable backups that are taken offline for a long period have a hard time to re-sync backup and just fail
Multiple locations is a great and beneficial use, cloud servers and backup. Fast backup and recovery.

Veeam Backup & Replication is used across the entire organization to back up all company data and send it to our DR site.
  • Veeam Backup & Replication explorers allow for instant file browsing and recovery
  • Integrates seamlessly with vCenter and SAN
  • Backups are contained within their own job folder structure
  • Error reporting--Warnings should be optionally suppressible; some warnings I would class as more informational than actual warnings (Backup copy jobs exceeding interval times, for example)
  • Stopping a job can sometimes take longer than expected
  • Removing temporary snapshots can be very slow
Very easy to use and a recognized market leader; it just works, and their support team is great should you have any questions or issues.

Veeam B&R is being used to back up all virtual machines across all global offices and replicate the data offsite. It's also being used to back up physical workloads. Combined with HPE Storeonce appliances we achieve high levels of deduplication and can have lengthy retention policies without the needs of lots of disk. It's simple to set up and maintain and has all the granular recovery features that we need.
  • Consistant fast backups.
  • Robust backup files that are portable and don't need the original backup server to restore.
  • Simplicity of setup and restoring files.
  • Versatility of working with different types and tiers of storage.
  • When using HPE catalyst the displayed values of backed up data and transferred data is erroneous.
  • Quick restore of changed blocks only doesn't work well on application servers.
Veeam B&R is the simplest and most effective backup solution I have ever worked with. Previous experience with Avamar, netbackup and Windows backup, moving to Veeam was easy and saves countless hours on maintenance. Its hardware agnostics make it great for using legacy storage that would otherwise be retired or the flexibility to use low cost storage up to enterprise storage arrays in tandem. It works great in a datacenter and in remote sites.

It is being used to back up our VMware guest servers by utilizing VeeamZIP Powershell/CLI commands. I have several scripts that I use to run at certain times to backup our VMware guest servers. <br><br>I have two backup jobs setup for our larger servers (file server and an app server), one of which is backed up to a separate NAS device than on the SAN where all the other servers backup to.<br><br>I have to say it's either our environment or the product that sometimes seems to be slow when it comes to initial/first full backup, especially when dealing with 1TB or more of data.<br><br>The online documentation and resources are very well put together, but perhaps more documentation specifically for the Community Edition would be appreciated.<br><br>The business problem it solves is just my own time dealing with the system and any possible issues of restoring user's data or server restore. I entered the role and they were using Dell Appassure and it was an old system and not very good. It was slow, confusing, and outdated. I decided to switch over to Veeam and it is so much easier to use and straight forward, at least for our environment. I have not had to spend a lot of time figuring out how to restore files or servers, just straight forward.
  • Intuitive
  • Once set up it just works
  • Easy use when needing to restore servers/files
  • Better interface
  • I have some confusion when running updates/upgrades on the Veeam software as the wording is ambiguous
  • It may be slow, or it may be our network that is slow, unsure
It is easy to use and easy to restore files/server. In our environment we really don't use it to it's full potential so there are a lot of features I can't speak to. I have created powershell scripts to run VeeamZip because we're using the free version, so that portion is convenient. But also not convenient because you don't get a single pane of glass to look at all your backup jobs. But that's because it's the free version.

I use Veeam to backup our important VM's both on site and off site to VTDs. It gives me that peace of mind knowing that I could spin my environment up on new hardware quickly in the event of a disaster.
  • Easily backup and restore VM's.
  • Schedule recurring backups with retention policies.
  • Integration with AWS and VTD support.
  • Auto Ejecting VTD's sometimes gets stuck and requires a manual kick.
  • Web UI feature on backup & replication.
  • Better remote monitoring.
Veeam is my go to for VM backups. It gives me the peace of mind knowing that my on site and off site backups are completing nightly, along with email notifications. This may be the most rudimentary implementation of Veeam, but it does it well and I will continue using the product.

We implemented Veeam B&amp;R to replace several disparate backup solutions. Veeam is able to back up virtual servers (image level), files, and application-level (SQL, Exchange, SharePoint, Oracle) plus perform DR replication to a secondary site with a single product and is saving us $40,000 per year on software maintenance.
  • User interface is very good. Coming from Tivoli Storage Manager, this is a huge upgrade.
  • Scalability (proxy servers) and integration with deduplication appliances. Adding proxy servers for performance is a snap and requires no additional licensing.
  • Ease of restores of application data (SQL, SharePoint and Exchange). Very intuitive (except SharePoint, which is not intuitive anyway...).
  • It would be awesome if B&R could combine with the O365 product for a single management point.
We have one very busy special-use SQL application that doesn't like Veeam touching its databases. Other than that, we replaced TSM, DocAve, native SQL and Oracle backups and vFoglight all with one product that cost much less.

We began using Veeam shortly after our existing backup software was due for renewal. Our network team was having some issues with the existing software that affected product backups, restores, and replication. So since we were moving mostly to VM's we decided to look at Veeam's VM backup solution.
  • Easy to use for admins and helpdesk techs alike.
  • Great solution for quickly restoring file share files.
  • Speedier backups and restores than before.
  • Cost is high but you get a premium product.
  • Easier patching process/upgrades.
  • More advanced admin options.
Definitely useful and would recommend to anyone asking for a good backup tool. It has so many major features now that it could be recommended for a replication system, cloud backup system, and/or file share backup and restore system. There is a lot here to like.

Our entire information technology stack uses Veeam Backup & Replication for a variety of uses. Mainly for backups of course, but also for its fast and simple replication process. This basically gives us a copy of our data center at a remote location. We do also use it for restores and testing them.
  • Great and solid product and features
  • Easy to use all around
  • Faster than competing tools
  • Could use more detailed setup instructions
  • Faster response from support
  • Less downtime when patching certain pieces
I would likely recommend it based on all the good things it does. You get what you pay for and you pay top dollar here so you get a good product. Having to deal with cheaper but inferior tools to do something as important as backups will make you think twice when it's time to upgrade.

Wherever we can possibly replace a current or older backup product in our environment we do so with Veeam. It has a plethora of features and we intend to use all that we can. Mostly because it just works, and works fast, but also because we bought the premium license and want to get our money's worth!
  • Very cybersecurity focused
  • Large feature set (backups, cloud, restores, file share)
  • Easy group of people to work with during setup
  • More low-level backup access would be great.
  • Easy to find answers without having to call support
  • More backup data tier levels available
It's easy to recommend something that saves you so much time and effort. Really if you can swing it, go with Veeam Backup & Replication or at least get a trial of it to compare to your current backup. We have been using Veeam across the whole organization to support the backup of virtual machines and prepare the Disaster Recovery scenario with the Veeam ability to send the backups to the cloud. We have prepared a Disaster Recovery in Microsoft Azure using our daily backups, send then to the Azure and use the backups to restore the VMware virtual machines in Azure virtual machines. Works like we expected and now we are using it for the backup for C-level users' desktops and laptops.
  • Easy to deploy and to use.
  • File Level Restore is super fast and easy to use.
  • The ability to send our backups to the cloud and use then to Disaster Recovery.
  • Easy to recovery desktops and laptops for key users super fast.
  • Integration with VMware and Azure is very good.
  • A virtual appliance with pre-configured options will be good.
  • Protection for MacOS.
I think it's a good use for virtual environment with VMware or Hyper-V to do the backups really fast and easy. For restore it's a fantastic tool with the ability to do file level restore of files and specific application, like SQL Server and Active Directory.
For scenarios with other open sources hypervisor it's not so good, they don't do integration with KVM, for example.

After having a terrible time demoing a handful of new backup solutions we ended up taking a suggestion from a rep to test our Veeam Backup and Replication. After just a couple weeks we knew it was the one. It addresses our need for a new solution after our existing solution was out of support and needing to be updated.
  • The replication component is much faster than our old system.
  • Backups are quick, secure, and easily tested against.
  • Specific app explorer reads backups easily.
  • A great value, but a higher end price tag.
  • More frequent feature updates.
  • More advanced features.
Highly likely that we would tell others about this if they're in the market. When we get calls about our current technology uses from local cities and counties Veeam is usually on our shortlist of products. Backups due to disasters or ransom ware are huge issues these days so Veeam is a solution for many companies.

Veeam Backup & Replication is being used by our organization as a way to keep our VMs, physical, and cloud servers safe and sound. It solves many problems including back or failed backups, slow backups, and tough restore resting. All that is no longer a problem for us and backups are running smoothly.
  • Amazing automated testing of backups
  • Fast VM restores
  • Easier to use than competing products
  • A bit costlier than expected
  • Support case response time
  • More regular feature updates
Would easily recommend Veeam to coworkers and colleagues. The backup industry has a lot of options right now, and they're all trying to grab your attention so it's easy to get lost in the huge variety. But if you need a super solid, fast, and easy backup and restore system, this is it.
