Overall Satisfaction with Parallels Remote Application Server

Prior to using Parallels RAS, we were using a competitor product that was very complex and cumbersome when it came to needing to upgrade. We trialed Parallels RAS and were blown away by how easy it was to stand up the product and begin using the features. Employees have been very happy with the performance and ease of use. Upgrades are also very easy with Parallels and only take a fraction of the time of the competitor product to complete.

Pros

  • Reliability
  • Ease of Use.
  • Ease of Administration.

Cons

  • Availability of release notes.
  • Notification of new releases.
  • SSO on client stops working once the client is upgraded to newer version.
  • Less expensive than competitors.
  • Ease of maintenance.
  • ROI Improvement.
We used Citrix XenApp prior to Parallels and due to the complexity of an upgrade, it caused us to begin looking for other products. We ran into Parallels RAS and decided to give it a shot. We had a working POC within 30 minutes and launched apps within the hour. The upgrade/migration of Citrix XenApp was in progress for over a month with no end in sight. We purchased the product and migrated all users to Parallels and haven't looked back!
The central console that Parallels RAS provides is very easy to administer. Parallels give you the option of using the web-based console or application-based console. The application console is more robust but with each upgrade, the web-based console is catching up quickly.
We have some end users that utilize Parallels RAS HTML5 browser on computers as well as mobile devices. The HTML5 usability is very smooth on all products. We did run into an issue with full-screen RDP where the taskbar would disappear on the RDP machine but within a month the support team had a patch for us to resolve the issue.
Our company utilizes VMWare ESXi for almost all of our server infrastructure which allows us to build more app servers on demand. As long as Parallels RAS was compatible with virtual machines, we were good to go.
Security is a big concern in today's world. The ability to utilize MFA is huge and was a requirement prior to switching from the competitor product. MFA setup was very simple with RAS and integrated nicely with Azure MFA. SSL cert installation was also very simple through the console and took effect immediately.
We've only had to contact the support team a handful of times but when we have had to contact support we usually receive a response within a few hours. In one incident we found a bug in the HTML5 code and within a month we were given a patch to resolve the issue.
