Overall Satisfaction with Paylocity
We use Payroll, Time & Labor, Enhanced HR (ACA), and Learning. We use webclock. Our users are not allowed to clock in via the mobile app. However, our employees are encouraged to use the mobile app to view paystubs, request vacation, etc. Just went live this past January. We had hoped that the Community platform would be robust enough to replace others already in use. That did not happen as it was not flexible enough. We have uploaded a few of our unique training presentations to the Learning module. And have assigned training from there also.
Pros
- Mobile app
- Flexibility of configuration
- Friendly look and feel
- More Professional feeling solution for employees
- Employee self service use seems more successful than previous competitor used
- Phone support is very responsive
- Email support is very unresponsive
Cons
- Complexity and confusion between Payroll vs Time & Labor
- Complexity of configuration of security
- Complexity of configuration of accruals
- Inconsistency of vacation balances from Payroll to Time & Labor makes it complex to train users how to read it
- The effort required to dig through the help knowledgebase to find what you need
- Lack of support ticket traceability when working with the helpdesk/hotline
- Really successfully put employee data in their hands for the first time.
- Has significantly reduced the effort to meet compliance reporting such as 1095-C's etc.
- A small upfront investment has allowed us to gain a better documented system with better phone support, and more professional output for our employees with little difference to our ongoing costs.
We are a growing business that over time has had to replace manual processes with automated systems and again over time replace those with enhanced systems in order to get the professional outcome we need. Paylocity represents an important part of that growth. It provides us with a platform that delivers our employees a professional interface, gives them control over their personal information, and provides a platform upon which to build further automation of additional processes in the future.
Employee engagement tools such as Community & Peer Recognition (Impressions) have had very minimal use. We have not found these tools to be all they were cracked up to be.
- isolved
As a Payroll processing company, there were many similarities in how Payroll and the integration with Time and Labor worked. Paylocity won out in its friendly appearance and ease of use for new users. Once actually digging in and using it - we could see that much of the more difficult-to-handle process issues were difficult in Paylocity as well. Under the covers, there is less difference than you think. But we really like the integrated Learning Management System and the potential for interactive onboarding in the future, etc.

3 - Our HR guy does the hiring and onboarding.
Our Head of Accounting, applies updates to pay rates, deductions, etc.
Our IT is liaison to Paylocity support and is backup payroll administrator. Also creates loader files for open enrollment and mid-year changes. Also manages the ACA requirements and validates the 1095-C's at the end of the year.

- Payroll Administration
- Time Entry and Tracking
- Training Tracking and Assignment
- Nothing innovative that I can think of
- Without forcing employees into set schedules that have to be modified and maintained frequently, and without resorting to a points system, we would like to be able to track attendance issues more accurately.
- We would like to be able to do expense reimbursements through the system
- We would like to integrate Paylocity with abas ERP to create the journal entries for payroll in the GL and to allow abas ERP to use the attendance tracking in Paylocity to replace the TCI Attendance clock-in/out.
Evaluating Paylocity and Competitors
Yes - iSolved was our prior product. We considered an upgrade to that product in addition to considering Paylocity. Paylocity was recommended by business colleagues in the community. Paylocity appeared more friendly for the average user.
- Ease of Use
The primary factor that caused Paylocity to win out over iSolved was a sense to the end user of Ease of Use. This may or may not have been actually true, however, the look of screens was friendlier looking and less intimidating.
Some of the most complex payroll issues are still difficult in Paylocity, mostly due to the inherit complexity of the original issue, not due to a lack of the software. These issues were not necessarily easier in this software than they were in the last. Test cases that need to be tested during the demonstration phase of evaluating payroll and HR software need to include several of the mid-year changes, termination processing, etc.
Paylocity Support
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
Quick Resolution Good followup Knowledgeable team Problems get solved No escalation required Immediate help available Support understands my problem Support cares about my success Quick Initial Response | None |
Our contract and invoice does not call out the level of support in any way. So this is unclear.
Yes - That was one of the times when it took the longest and required the most push back by me to have the issue investigated to the point of identifying that it was in fact a bug. I was then informed that it would be included in a future release. I did not receive follow up once it was applied.
I have many times needed to call to find out how to handle a situation. On these occassions they were willing to make changes if I wanted them changed but they were also very willing to guide me through making changes myself so that I would be able to learn how to make similar changes in the future. They have been patient and accomodating. And very rarely is the person answering my call unable to assist me with my issue. These situations of exceptional support far outweigh any negative experiences.
