Overall Satisfaction with UserTesting

I am a UX Designer at a local transportation company where we offer both local bus service and city-to-city coach throughout the UK. Customers can purchase tickets easily through our app and website therefore it is vital that we ensure our platforms are user-friendly. I have been with UserTesting for over a year and I usually use it to conduct unmoderated tasks where the participants will complete tasks on the functional prototype and give their genuine feedback.

Pros

  • Quick feedback.
  • Participants recruitment.
  • Customer support.

Cons

  • Recruiting the right participants (often some do not speak throughout the test).
  • Some templates are not customizable.
  • Quick decision-making.
  • As a quality data to why something works / doesn't when there is disagreement in the team.
  • Increase in the customers satisfaction.
  • Good combination with quality data.
I can usually get a response from the support team on the same day and they will always follow up to ensure the case is resolved.
UserTesting provides a lot of useful templates to get started with, I sometimes use those templates as a reference and make some tweaks to them according to my needs. But some templates are not customisable which can be frustrating and time-consuming to make a copy. Analysing the feedback is quick and easy. For instance, the metric systems can capture the participants' reactions and highlight the most frequent mentions. But it is not always accurate so I will always take it with a pinch of salt.
Developing a prototype can be time-consuming even with a persona as a reference, that is when UserTesting comes in handy. My process often involves coming up with multiple variations and then launching a preference test to see how the users react to them. It is extremely helpful to get unbiased opinions within a short amount of time to help me make a final decision and proceed to develop a fully-functional prototype.

Do you think UserTesting delivers good value for the price?

Not sure

Are you happy with UserTesting's feature set?

Yes

Did UserTesting live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of UserTesting go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy UserTesting again?

Yes

For people who have zero experience when it comes to designing a usability test, the UserTesting platform will be a good start as it is beginner friendly. UserTesting platform is quick to learn how the platform works as the interface is minimal, it also provides courses where they give walk new users through the features. However, when it comes to asking the right questions to get a genuine reaction from the participants, new users should learn how to avoid steering participants in a certain direction, causing them to give biased answers.
