Adobe Marketing Cloud

Adobe Marketing Cloud is a great set of programs to help you with your digital marketing campaign, whether you're the one running it, or you're working it for a client. Some people may have complained about a steep learning curve before, but it's really a useful program if you give it to the right people (namely a social media marketing expert). It's well suited for online digital campaigns for any small businesses that don't have the reach that big companies do, but probably less appropriate for large businesses that can hire people to do this very thing.

Oracle Eloqua

Eloqua is well suited for clients with the need to automate marketing tasks to save on time and money. This would be most marketing teams and primarily B2B. Eloqua may be used for B2C marketing but there are better fit products for that.Eloqua is especially great for large and/or complex marketing, sales, and IT teams. It has the ability to be customized to meet their needs while not being extremely difficult to setup and manage. It has functionality that its competitors lack to support global, large marketing teams.

Pros

  • Personalized Customer Experience – We've never had a problem getting on the horn with Adobe, if we had a problem or a question. They have an entire interface FAQ dedicated to answering questions, and most of the time we found our answer in that. We don't have to wait to chat (though that's an option) or waste time on the phone.
  • Media Optimizer – Everything is there, right when you need it. Like I stated prior, Adobe has everything that's accessible to everyone, so its user experience is wonderful. You don't have to wait for files to download, or sift through files on your FTP. Everything is clearly labeled, right there in front of you
  • Campaign – Adobe has a great interface for creating new digital marketing campaigns. Novices can pick it up and run with, while older, seasoned pros will find the helpful tools they need to get the project up and running.

  • Lots of features available to users who want to explore all opportunities their organization may have with marketing automation
  • Since the product is so popular, there are lots of user groups and companies helping with the implementation process
  • The software has an extensive help section.

Cons

  • Like I stated prior, Adobe Marketing is a great tool for people who know what they're doing, and novices to pick up and run with, but teaching it to larger organizations can be a bit of a pain. For example, Adobe Analytics can pool a ton of results into a single result, which can be a bit confusing if you're not privy to this sort of thing.
  • I would like to see more cross-training implementation, there's always room for improvement.
  • Reporting may be the weakest link out of the whole program, with more advanced reporting, businesses can always integrate the data, like post-campaign execution.

  • They recently went to a more impersonal account management model. This really stinks. Not that our CSM was really that great but based on the fact that it was always nice that you had one person who was in your corner if something really went wrong.
  • The topliners community used to be really strong and would provide a TON of support for Eloqua users. Now, you can wait weeks before anyone replies to a question or issue that's posted.
  • Eloqua support used to be very robust. Now, it seems like they are just trying to close as many tickets as possible and are very quick to respond with, "Oh, no that's not our issue." or "You are going to have to ask a partner to help you with that!"
  • Eloqua has failed to innovate....it USED to be THE platform to go with. Now, Marketo has really stepped up and brought some innovative features to the marketing automation area such as a more user-friendly email builder, landing page builder, and ABM capabilities.

Although a powerful tool, Google Analytics has been catching up in capabilities and is much simpler to use.As analytics move to the spotlight, more sections in a company want to have access to it. However, creating straightforward reports/dashboards and sharing them with different groups is not a strength of Adobe Marketing Cloud.

We have been able to automate so many marketing processes with Eloqua over the past 5 years that the only direction would be to adopt the latest and greatest features Eloqua adds. The alternative would be to go back to the marketing stone-age and start over again. And we would rather move forward with increased automation and efficiency.

Oracle is usable but it does have a learning curve. While the learning tools give you access to navigation and how to do simple tasks - trying to figure out complex items such as editing past campaign elements or finding the proper report can take a bit. Overall, you'll need to sit in front of the system and not be afraid to get your hands dirty and touch some buttons. Nothing terrible will happen and you'll learn a ton making it easy to use

The implementation of Eloqua is not a problem if data are correct and if the overall process between Eloqua and the CRM are well taken into account.

Alternatives Considered

If you are an enterprise, there is simply no comparison. The sampling in Google Analytics will lead you astray. The lack of pathing will leave you unaware of how people navigate. You will essentially be making all of your decisions based on bad data. There's a stunning lack of customization. My internal stakeholders saw the difference immediately. Rather than trying to make guesses and inferences, I was able to provide hard data and back it up with many more pieces of data that backed my conclusion. The insights we gained from the first month of tracking were of greater value than the prior year of Google Analytics. I identified key areas of improvement that are now driving our content strategy.

We are a global company of over 65,000 employees. We have over 125 users of Eloqua across the globe. It can be difficult to ensure everyone is following the guidelines, best practices and policy of the tool. I am constantly policing it and finding users who are not doing what it required or sending messages via Eloqua that are not approved

Return on Investment

  • Growth - We now know where to focus our efforts. This has led to increased conversion and an increased conversion rate as we figure out exactly where our effective content is.
  • Spend - We are concentrating our resources where they matter. We've learned that some of our web properties are not paying dividends and so can we can safely reduce spend in those areas.
  • Content - We are finding the right content to draw in visitors and get them to convert. We're also finding the shortcomings. This is going to be key to reducing our bounce rate.
