Highlights

Docusign and Adobe Sign are electronic signature software options designed to work for businesses of any size. Abode Sign is more popular with large organizations that utilize other Adobe products while Docusign is more popular with small businesses.

Features

Docusign and Adobe Sign both provide the basic features of electronic signature software but there are a few standout features that set them apart.

Docusign includes document generation tools, strong mobile support, and offers many third party integrations. Adobe Sign integrates with Adobe’s suite of document management software to allow for end-to-end document management.

Limitations

Docusign and Adobe sign also both have a few key limitations that are important to consider.

Docusign places a limit on the number of users for most of their plans, and often receives poor feedback regarding slow or insufficient customer support. It is also difficult to alter Docusign documents after their creation. Adobe Sign has limited integrations outside of the Adobe suite and uses a difficult to use Android application for mobile users.

Pricing

Docusign offers two tiers of pricing for businesses. Their standard tier is $24.99 per month per user, and allows up to three users. Their business plan is $39.99 per user per month and allows users to process payments.

Adobe Sign also offers two tiers of pricing for business. Their small business plan costs $34.99 per user per month, which has no limitation on users. Their business plan costs $39.99 per user per month and requires a three year commitment, but includes advanced form options.

Adobe Sign

Adobe Sign is well-suited for Human Resources forms that need to be signed by a large group of employees. It's also well-suited for contracts (if the parties are comfortable with electronic copies). I used it for contracts in my last job and I was instrumental in getting it on board at my current workplace.Unfortunately, Adobe Sign isn't fully accepted in the legal affairs environment on an international platform (even if electronic signatures are legal).

Where several of our companies facilities are located, we are very remote on military bases. So, using regular postal service to get our paperwork out wasn't a good option and was very time-consuming. It also wasn't very secure or a 'sure thing' that the paperwork would get to where it needed to go. So, DocuSign is a HUGE timesaver and money saver. Our parents can't come to our site, so we needed an efficient way to get our paperwork signed within our legal timeframe without being near the recipients. DocuSign fit the bill, and we love it!

Pros

Adobe Sign

  • Rich integration with Power Automate/SharePoint.
  • Good and numerous administration options.
  • Multilingual
  • Reminders
  • Several signing options (keyboard, finger, picture, etc.)
  • Easy to use for external signers / no third-app to download, all from the browser.
  • Customization of logo.
  • Not too much Adobe Sign advertising in the signing emails.
  • Good audit trail
  • A lot of features and options.

DocuSign

  • DocuSign makes it easy to set up a document for signing. You upload the document, enter recipient email addresses, identify the signing fields, and send.
  • DocuSign works on any computing device: Tablet, phone, PC, laptop, Mac--anything with a web browser and an email account.
  • DocuSign allows you to use a pre-drawn signature or to create one--even if you're a first time user.

Cons

Adobe Sign

  • I find it a bit confusing to get the document ready for adding text fields and such then save for future use, as it usually sends me to immediately sign and saves over the edited document.
  • Would like to see more improvements in preparing the form—better text fields and save for later options with the ability to leave a document pre-signed for quick sends. Seems like a lot of work to get a form ready.

DocuSign

  • DocuSign's overall UI is a bit clunky and not amazingly well designed. I'd love it if they gave it a thoughtful design (although just reskinning it wouldn't really be much better).
  • We've been underwhelmed at times by their Microsoft word direct import. I always convert to PDF before uploading documents at this point.
  • The email subjects the generate are just downright wretched. It would be better to *make* the user fill out a subject line than the ones that they autofill and then happily send out to recipients.

It is by far the easiest service we have used to obtain digital signatures from employees. In the past we had done it by hand (a process I would not recommend for 1500+ employees) and with another company that would not allow us to create our own forms and would charge us for each form.

I can't imagine doing business without DocuSign now. I would never want to go back to the way we used to do things. The "new way" is "the way" is "the right way." We can honestly be proud of a "one right way" process and not have to suffer through "5 ways for 5 days."

It is a very usable product once you have overcome the initial hurdle of setting up its many menu options and learning to navigate the various aspects of Adobe Sign. Modifying workflows, notifications, setting up document templates and more all require a major initial time investment before any organization work can be done.

The products is well built and it is easy to understand the high level features. However, when I created my 1st form with the product, the learning curve was pretty steep. It required quite a bit of trial and error. For instance, our form required a credit card number. We didn't want this data to be visible, but the workflow included an email confirmation with a PDF attached. It took me a while to figure out how to make sure that the credit card number was not sent in this confirmation email. It actually required me to call their customer service line.

Adobe sign is very fast. Pages load in real time. When we send/receive docs to/from our clients it only takes a matter of seconds. Once a client applies their signature it can be added to any field within one second. I am very pleased with the speed of adobe sign.

Adobe Sign helps us get our contracts be signed in a timely manner. Questions can be asked via email which part of the apps and can be resolved immediately. For our organization, Adobe Sign is now a "way of life". The process is simple and yet very vital to our operation

I'd give them a 10, but there has been 1 or 2 small cases that seemed to fall to the wayside, but I was able to call them up and get them resolved. We were having a bad implementation night (after midnight) and we needed assistance from Docusign. They were able to get an engineer to help us in the early morning hours

The best types of training are well integrated into the product and Echosign does this well. As mentioned earlier in my review - there are some areas of functionality that can be difficult to understand ("only I sign") for the novice user.Other areas such as macro usage, bulk signature and so on were easily learned and understood via the online tools.

We did not use it in the manner that most companies do, so I am pleased with how our company handled implementation. We will be pushing the full company over into Echosign for various processes which will incorporate more of an implementation effect.

Until you get the hang of it, I recommend doing several internal tests before sending a document to a client. As I mentioned earlier, you have to go through a bit of trial and error at first to verify that the workflow works as expected.

Alternatives Considered

Adobe Sign

The mobile side of any electronics signature processes pretty much outweigh Adobe Sign. But Adobe sign in my opinion is the most flexible too out there on the desktop or laptop solutions. Please all you need is to spend some time on the mobile side and you guys will rule the market

DocuSign

I think DocuSign is still the leader in this industry as pronounced by their superior customer service and quick development response time to changes in the industry. For simple users, DocuSign is user friendly and easy to navigate while adding significant benefit to small to large scale corporate, legal and professional departments.

Return on Investment

Adobe Sign

  • It has saved me time with program agreements
  • It's an affordable product
  • I also use the fill and sign which has been useful when I've had to sign document from people who were simply sending me a PDF. So I saved paper and time by using the other features of Adobe (fill and sign)

DocuSign

  • In real estate we all ways say time kills deals so if we can get a document out the door, have it reviewed and signed by multiple parties simultaneously, it helps us ensure deals are completed quickly.
  • More than half our deals are executed electronically which saves time in the car, paper and hassle.
