Adobe Sign

When working often with contracts and the need to keep track of a lot of different clients, Adobe Sign is really helpful. Early in my business when I didn't have a large number of clients and I did most everything in person, it would have been a more unnecessary luxury for me. Now that I do a lot of work online and my clients are reaching farther and farther and more regularly hire me from over an hour drive away and sometimes out of state, I've found it extremely helpful when I can't meet in person. I've even moved to doing all contracts through Adobe Sign, even if we are meeting in person

DocuSign

If someone wants the process to be as streamlined as possible and regularly signs a lot of documents than I think DocuSign is perfect. If cost is a concern, there are alternatives that do a decent job but some aren't quite as streamlined as DocuSign for non-techy users.

Pros

  • Instant emails and confirmations are a huge plus for me. I know that something is sent or when it is signed. The emails let me know and I can immediately download and print the signed copy for my paper records.
  • Easy filling of forms helps keep me moving quickly. I can open a document I've created and Adobe Sign will go through and detect where there are spaces for form filling. This lets me work quickly by filling in the blanks or marking them for the signer.
  • Streamlined for my clients. They love the ease that they can click through and sign and initial the contract or fill in any sections that they have to add text too. This shows them a level of professionalism in a saturated market to let them feel confident in their choice of a high quality photographer.

Cons

  • Would be nice to have clearer way to distinguish which fields are required in order to submit documents once it's been signed versus which fields are just optional.
  • Although EchoSign does allow for multiple signers using the same email address, the document will be sent multiple times. Would be nice if both signers (who share an email address) could complete all fields the first time visiting the website rather than having to complete one section and then waiting for the second email to log back into the site and complete the document.
  • Would be great to be possible to allow multiple signatures through a tablet (such as an iPad) run flawlessly. We've noticed issues retrieving the second signature when customers sign contracts through our tablets.

EchoSign has without a doubt helped our company to become more economic and time efficient. We can provide our customers with an entire documentation packet filled with all of the required paperwork they will ever need to sign in one quick email. The return time is at least four times quicker than sending through traditional mail methods, and is just as easy to instruct as flagging a hard copy. Our company is in the renewable energy industry, and it's great to know that there's a product like this that can help reduce waste. EchoSign diligently secures all documents and signatures, and provides an audit trail that is integral to keeping our customers' information private

I can't imagine doing business without DocuSign now. I would never want to go back to the way we used to do things. The "new way" is "the way" is "the right way." We can honestly be proud of a "one right way" process and not have to suffer through "5 ways for 5 days."

EchoSign is extremely easy to use through the entire signature cycle, from sending to signing to administration with a very guided approach. The only way this could be more usable is if it auto-detected the fields but you can get there for the end users by using smart tags in just one extra admin step

The products is well built and it is easy to understand the high level features. However, when I created my 1st form with the product, the learning curve was pretty steep. It required quite a bit of trial and error. For instance, our form required a credit card number. We didn't want this data to be visible, but the workflow included an email confirmation with a PDF attached. It took me a while to figure out how to make sure that the credit card number was not sent in this confirmation email. It actually required me to call their customer service line.

I haven't had to ask for support more then a handful of times and each time I do interact with the support team I have felt important. They get back to me quickly and I am able to get them answers/help I was seeking

I'd give them a 10, but there has been 1 or 2 small cases that seemed to fall to the wayside, but I was able to call them up and get them resolved. We were having a bad implementation night (after midnight) and we needed assistance from Docusign. They were able to get an engineer to help us in the early morning hours

The best types of training are well integrated into the product and Echosign does this well. As mentioned earlier in my review - there are some areas of functionality that can be difficult to understand ("only I sign") for the novice user.Other areas such as macro usage, bulk signature and so on were easily learned and understood via the online tools.

Make sure you set aside enough time to get properly trained on the system. We needed to act quickly on our initial use of this product and I did not have the time to go through all the proper training so it was basically go in and learn. I think it would have been much easier had I been given the time by the company to learn everything first.

Until you get the hang of it, I recommend doing several internal tests before sending a document to a client. As I mentioned earlier, you have to go through a bit of trial and error at first to verify that the workflow works as expected.

Alternatives Considered

They are about as good, but Adobe Sign comes with the Adobe Suite, which I use as a Web Designer/ Developer, as a result, I don't have to get yet another solution, and the Adobe Suite becomes a whole lot more valuable.

While some of the other e-signature services offer less expensive pricing and more subscription offerings, DocuSign is the assumed industry standard. I've tried a few alternatives but I find that most companies prefer DocuSign as it is the respected leader in this business space. It is so frequently used that people are now using DocuSign as a verb, like Xerox. As in, "Get Mr. Jones to DocuSign that contract today."

Return on Investment

  • We are a M&A firm and need every buyer to sign a document in order to see our deals. With over 400 deals on the market, this is a LOT of documents to be signed for viewing. Echosign has had an extremely positive impact on making this system more efficient. Every deal has a respective link with its Confidentiality Agreement and is able to be sent out, signed, returned to the respective director, and attached back into our CRM. Amazing.
  • Employee efficiency has also drastically increased. A 250 person company spread around the nation formerly relying on email, scanning, and faxes has now transitioned into a more technologically advanced (though still far from it) company relying on the signature of a link. Our leader boards also push directors to use this system.
  • Customer Service has also been positively impacted. We have a cc of every document come to a standardized inbox for monitoring. Any time a client or buyer calls questioning why they haven't received a response, we are able to look in that inbox to verify whether something was actually signed or not. We've gained a tighter reign on quality control and it definitely shows in our customer satisfaction.

  • I think overall DocuSign has had a positive impact on my ROI. It allows me to serve my customers better and faster by providing more detailed information that would normally take me a while to type.
  • Knowing when someone is viewing your messages or downloading attachments, allows me to better serve them as I know they've got my message and we are on the same page.
