We use HireVue for the initial round of our screening process. We send all high potential candidates a template that we design and give them a range of time to complete it. It has been a huge time saver because before we purchased HireVue, we were doing many, many phone screens each day.
  • User-friendly.
  • Does exactly what you need it to.
  • The only area for improvement would be the ability to edit questions within a role after it has been sent to candidates.
HireVue can be used by any recruitment team and I would fully recommend it to anyone serving a similar size organization as we are. It is less appropriate if you are only looking for super high level staff because I'm not sure if they will use the tool / submit their HireVue video.

We use HireVue throughout the company but I mainly use it with one of our departments specifically that I support. This has helped us interview people at their convenience to help increase the number of candidates our managers are able to view. Managers have also used this to do face to face (live HireVue) for their interviews when they cannot be done in person.
  • OpenVue - I like the OpenVue option so that I can put the link in postings to help speed up the interview process.
  • On Demand - this has helped us so that candidates can do the interviews at their convenience and we do not have to set up a time to do an interview. In some cases, we are able to take days off the interview process.
  • Duplicate a Hirevue position - there are many times that we do a launch and want to keep the location separated in HireVue. It would be nice to be able to duplicate a position and change the name.
  • Search options - maybe I need to learn better, but it doesn't seem that there is a good way to filter through and find people that were not hired. I do know that part of the issue is the data we put into it.
Overall, I have liked my experience and it has improved recruiting for us.

We use HireVue within our own recruiting department and for some of our clients to assist with their recruiting needs.
  • Good way to quickly screen and assess candidates when utilizing one way videos.
  • I also like the two way video feature for more in-depth videos.
  • I have used the two way video feature and recorded the interview so other parties could view them later to aid in the decision making process.
  • I don't think this is a HireVue issue per se but a lot of our managers are on the road constantly and you need quite a strong WiFi signal for the video feature to work properly.
  • We need to be able to articulate the clear advantages of using something like HireVue over FaceTime or Skype which a lot of our clients are used to using and see and easy and free.
I think it can always be utilized, sometimes our short timelines can make it really challenging but overall HireVue is a valuable too.

HireVue is used enterprise wide for most positions within the field (operations) and corporate. Our company takes advantage of both On Demand and live interviewing. HireVue addresses several business problems for our company: it lowers travel costs, saves time in scheduling screening calls or interviews by providing an initial review of the candidate/personality/professional presentation/culture fit (i.e. more time back for recruiters & hiring Managers), candidate convenience/improved candidate experience - they can continue steps in the hiring process on their own time.
  • Partnership- HireVue employees are very proactive at keeping in touch with our company to reveal new products, review how well we are using any current products, where we could improve in product use and return on investment. From a relationship standpoint - they are experts in their business, have done a great job establishing trust with our company and are always extremely responsive to needs.
  • HireVue does a great job of understanding business issues/needs, and helping generate ideas or creative ways to solve those needs with use of their products.
  • I would love to see more fact sheets and case studies on newer products when available.
  • In speaking with other companies who have considered video interviewing platforms, a challenge across the board is how to integrate into the recruitment process without it being an extra step for both recruiters and candidates.
HireVue is very well suited in situations where candidate travel would be necessary to complete the hiring process and in high volume hiring situations. It's works well to get candidates engaged in the interview process quickly via OpenVue.

HireVue may be less appropriate when it becomes an extra step in the process.

My company uses HireVue to connect hiring managers with candidates for many different positions across the company and across the country. Sometimes these positions are located in an area we don't have an office, so HireVue is a nice way to have a hiring manager and candidate meet over the internet.
  • Connect potential candidates with potential employers.
  • Provide video interview.
  • Allow you to track where candidates are in the process.
  • Technical issues happen, and sometimes the helpdesk isn't as prompt as I would hope so, especially if time is of the essence.
  • It can run a little slow sometimes when I'm trying to set people up.
I think HireVue is definitely appropriate for positions with quick timelines and turnaround, and in areas where we need the candidate to meet with the hiring manager very quickly. A potential candidate who is also tech-savvy would also be more appropriate than someone who is not comfortable using online/video interviewing.

HireVue is used by human resources, both on the graduate/apprentice side as well as the experienced hire side.

I personally use it for graduate/apprentice recruitment, in replacement of telephone interviews. It helps us deal with volumes of candidates, share candidates and get others' opinions and easily rank the top scorers.

  • Creates an average score across the interview.
  • Different types of question responses (written, video, multiple choice, etc).
  • Being able to review lots of candidates in one day and the interviews are already recorded.
  • Candidates can take the interviews at a time that is most convenient to them.
  • Different ways of scoring to be bespoke per organisation (not just 1-5).
HireVue is well suited to a younger audience who appreciates that companies have large volumes of candidates to review. Experienced hires tend to prefer to have face to face or at least telephone contact.

  • Keeps the questions consistent.
  • Helps me assess the technical capability of a candidate.
  • The candidate can take the assessment at their leisure.
  • The UI is a little confusing at times.
  • When you log into HireVue to review a candidate, you are unable to assign an evaluator at that time.
  • Candidates sometimes tell me that they don't have access to a webcam or don't want to be videotaped.
HireVue is less appropriate for high level management roles. It is good for high volume and technical roles.

  • Alerting individuals that they need to answer their video interview questions

It address multiple business problems by allowing recruiters and hiring managers to communicate with candidates in an effective way to see if they qualify for a particular position. Another plus is hiring managers and recruiters are able to customize how HireVue is used as well.

We use Hirevue to interview potential candidates who are applying for our internal vacancies. These candidates can either take the hirevue at home or here in our office. It actually saves us time and effort scheduling each of them and interviewing them in person since we can already assess them through their initial HireVue interviews; and we know that saving time also translates to more important work being done.
  • Can be taken at home or anywhere where there is internet.
  • For people who are not confident talking to an actual person face to face, HireVue still works and is equally interactive as an actual interviewer.
  • Easy to use with step by step instructions.
  • It does not assess of course, the body language of the person, and how he/she answers.
HireVue works well for interviews. It's easy to use and the platform also allows candidates to answer questions through voice or through an essay-type exam.

We utilize HireVue for candidate interviews. The candidate will record a video interview and our recruiting and onboarding team reviews them. We have six prerecorded questions (little video clips) and the candidate has a two minute window to record their answers for each question. We review hundreds of videos from candidates across the country.
  • Easily allows us to customize our interview instructions, notes, preferences, etc.
  • Creates a fairly easy to use mobile interface for interviewing. Without video interviewing, our interview process would be slow and cumbersome.
  • Nice features set up for review purposes, such as auto-advance (to the next question) and the option to show a 'roll' of all videos that need to be reviewed.
  • HireVue is integrated with our custom ATS system, so there may be some integration issues there, but overall, there are too many steps needed to 'pass' an interview after reviewing it. Would love to see a single click accept which triggers the next steps in the process.
  • Many candidates are confused by the practice time period vs. the actual recording period and we end up with 'blank' recordings. Either clearer instructions are needed, removing the practice option for every question, or a more obvious way to show the candidate what is being recorded and what is not.
  • Perhaps another integration issue, but we don't always see the results of the video interviews right after they are recorded. We've had to go back into the HireVue website to retrieve 'lost' videos at a candidates request (which we never would have found on our own).

HireVue is well suited:

  • If you want to include a video option during your interview process, especially if you get LOTS of applicants and want to narrow it down, this is a great product. We have a high drop off rate of people who never complete the interview, but since our role involves a certain amount of tech-savviness, we appreciate this benchmark. Keep in mind you may need to offer another interview channel if you ask for a video interview.
  • If you have standard questions you want to ask all of your applicants.
  • If you want to assess verbal communication skill as part of your job requirement.

HireVue is currently being used only in the recruiting department. A majority of our employees are field representatives, which means they often live in another state, making it very difficult to have a physical interview with the candidates. HireVue allows us to interview the candidate without having to have one of our field managers physically meet the candidate.
  • HireVue is very reliable, I rarely have tech issues with the website.
  • HireVue's customer service team is great, the few times I or one of my candidates has had an issue, the team is very responsive and works very hard to solve the problem.
  • It's extremely innovative - I have had multiple candidates tell me how new and different this type of interview is and how much they enjoy it.
  • Using the HireVue software can be an little impersonal to a candidate, only because there is not someone physically interviewing them.
  • HireVue could do a better job of preparing the candidate for the interview. The other websites that I have seen are really great, but when I actually took the HireVue I ended up being nervous and somewhat intimidated.
I think HireVue is GREAT for a company that is majority field representatives. I would think it would be less appropriate for a company that has the ability to physically interview all of their candidates (however, that is becoming a thing of the past because a majority of companies have multiple corporate offices, or people working virtually).

We currently use HireVue in two ways. HireVue Basic is a part of our teacher application system. Every applicant must record answers to 5 questions which is attached to their on-line application. Hiring supervisors view the videos during the screening process to assist in selecting finalists.

We also use HireVue Live for screening administration positions such as principals, directors and assistant superintendents. We screen candidate applications, which includes their HireVue Basic video, and select a group of candidates who we would like to invite to a first interview. The first interview is administered through HireVue Live. The interviews are then viewed by the Superintendent and hiring team. Three finalists are selected to come in for in-person interviews.
  • The quality of the HireVue Basic interviews is excellent. It provides a wonderful way for hiring supervisors to get to know candidates above their paper application.
  • HireVue Live allows ALL candidates to participate in a face to face interview. No matter where candidates live, they all can join a real time interview and do not have to travel unless selected as a finalist.
  • Hiring teams can watch the interviews anywhere and at any time!
  • We get a lot of feedback from candidates that the HireVue Basic interview is awkward, because they are looking at themselves on the computer screen. They wish they had a different picture to look at while answering questions!
  • I had a very difficult time with HireVue Live this year. The quality of the connection and the audio/visual recording were often very bad. There were many times we couldn't use the video to screen candidates because you couldn't understand what they were saying, the video would be fuzzy or the recording was blank. This is the reason why I gave an overall rating of 8.
HireVue is a great tool for organizations to use in their hiring process. It is appropriate for all types of positions.

We use HireVue for hiring decisions across the board touching all departments, both part-time and full-time roles. It helps decision makers with the first step of the interviewing process, getting to know a little about candidate so they can decide whether they would be a good fit for the role. Good indicator of communication and sales skills.

We hire remote around the country making it impossible for our managers to do a face to face interview and this is a great solution.

HireVue is being used across the Boston Beer organization. I work in Recruiting and we mainly use it as a one-way screening tool. We believe the tool gives candidates a way to learn more about us and for us to learn more about them. HireVue helps us save time in the long run. We then pass HireVues on to other members of the organization if we believe a candidate is worth moving forward with.
  • HireVue gives the option of uploading company videos. These videos can teach candidates about the company and excite them.
  • HireVue's rating system allows for people to take notes, rate each question, and ultimately give a yes, no, maybe recommendation.
  • That you can base new interviews off of previous positions or templates, but also edit individual aspects of each interview. This makes it quick and easy to set up new interviews.
  • i don't like that only administrators can see notes on candidates. There should be an option for anyone a HireVue is shared with to view notes.
  • I don't like that HireVues expire after one year. It would be helpful to have them available for longer than that so when someone applies multiple times for a position we have a refresher as to why we didn't hire them in the first place.
  • I think more practice for end users could be valuable. A lot of candidates report feeling uncomfortable with the software. They would probably feel better if they had more practice.
HireVue is appropriate for college recruiting or when hiring mass amounts of people entry-level people. HireVue is a good tool for initial screening or weeding out of candidates. For a position that is harder to fill or more difficult to recruit for, a phone or in-person interview may be better. In addition, HireVue is probably more suited for Millennials or below. People who are comfortable and familiar with daily use of technology will probably feel better using this software.

Our department uses HireVue to screen and interview teachers. The entire district uses HireVue to interview for all types of positions.

We use HireVue for most of our recruitment projects (GMs, CEOs, CFOs and administrative support), both external and internal. Some of our clients also use HireVue for onboarding new team members.
  • HireVue is excellent for remote recruitment projects.
  • It provides a level playing field - everyone gets the same questions without any interviewer bias.
  • HireVue allows us to give more candidates the opportunity to sell themselves than we would be able to provide if we met with everyone face to face immediately.
  • The lack of queues or immediate feedback is challenging for some candidates, particularly those who are discussing support roles.
HireVue is excellent for high level roles, remote roles (FIFO included), where there is a time difference and/or high volumes of candidates. It is more challenging to get support candidates engaged - it is way out of the comfort zone for many of them, and can actually be a barrier to some candidates that otherwise appear to be very good. I would also be less likely to use it when I have approached a candidate, or where candidates are extremely scarce.

HireVue is being used as a screening tool. It makes next stage screening (post application) super efficient and effective.

HireVue is particularly useful when we have a large number of candidates and need supplementary info (e.g. beyond the CV and cover letter) to differentiate between candidates.

I think it would be less appropriate for senior or highly specialised roles where there are few candidates and they need additional care.

We use HireVue to screen teacher and non-instructional applicants. Our whole organization uses the program. The software provides important customization for interviews for the variety of roles we post.
  • HireVue has a very user-friendly interface that candidates can easily follow and appreciate.
  • Sharing interviews with multiple reviewers is very easy.
  • Creating a wide variety of questions is easy to do on HireVue. Whether it's video interviews or a mix of video + essays or document analysis it's all easy on HireVue.
  • It should be easier to bulk delete candidates.
  • Candidates should be able to upload videos themselves and store them on HireVue for a reasonable cost.
HireVue is well suited for companies with a wide variety of roles. HireVue makes it easy to create question sets to make tailoring interviews very successful.

HireVue is being used by my department, as well as two others, within my organization. It helps us gauge medical competence, customer service skills and bedside manner in candidates who are being considered for a front-line position.
  • It allows us to see how fluently a candidate is able to react and speak to direct prompts; the same way a face-to-face interview would.
  • It allows us to test their medical knowledge.
  • It allows us to assess their computer/technical knowledge.
  • Higher resolution videos, to match the otherwise trendy image of the application; which is visible to external candidates and can shape their view of our company.
  • Ability to share video of individual responses. This would be useful when a hiring manager needs an SME (within the organization, but who might not use HireVue) to validate the answer to a specific question for any reason.
  • Ability to change how interviews are scored without having to create a new profile.
I believe it satisfies the basic purpose of screening candidates efficiently; this can be useful when candidates are remote, or when a company needs to staff up quickly.

It is less appropriate for positions where the incumbent would be required to answer to or collaborate with a variety of departments or stakeholders, as they may each have different interview questions or scenarios they want to probe, and a cookie-cutter interview is not sufficient for all to gauge or assess.

HireVue is only being used for a portion of our total job openings. We have one high volume position in particular where HireVue will help us nearly eliminate the phone interview step in the process. We used to spend 10 or more hours of the week on phone interview alone. This is allowing our Recruiters to spend more time on finding creative sourcing solutions.
  • HireVue looks great! The user interface is simple, intuitive, and looks great. All of those things make for a smooth experience for the applicant.
  • The software was easy to set up! Our consultant was always keeping us up-to-date on where the project stood and what we had on our side to complete.
  • Most technology will fall into the category, so I don't think it's a great weakness on HireVue's part, but something to consider - there are the occasional candidates who have trouble accessing the interview. Anything that could be done to make this easier would be fantastic!
We find that our sales positions are well suited for this type of interview. Since the interview can admittedly be somewhat awkward to complete, we think it's a good test to see how well the applicant responds to awkward interpersonal situations. How well they do with the interview itself is helpful in itself.

We hire research assistant around the country from our corporate offices in California. HireVue eliminated the need to call people throughout the day to set up interview times.
  • The ability to customize the questions.
  • The ability to set time limits for reading the question.
  • The ability to skip through and review the entire interview, question by question.
  • The ability to sort candidates into different groups.
HireVue works well in a situation where in person interviews are impractical. It doesn't work well if it is determined that a follow up question [is necessary] based on the candidate's answer.

We use HireVue across the organization. It has replaced many of the live HR interviews we used to complete.
  • 24/7 customer support. Our candidates work 24/7 as well so it's great they can call anytime and get support.
  • We are a partner with them not just a customer. They listen to our needs/concerns/suggestions.
  • They are always improving their product.
  • The Coordinate tool still needs to fix some of the kinks.
HireVue is a solid company. The interviews are held on a secure site and we don't feel we have to worry about information being leaked.

We use HireVue as the second phase of our internship and graduate degree application process. We are highly pleased with the user-friendly interface and overall program.
  • HireVue has a clean look and simple navigation.
  • I would love if HireVue interfaced with our application system so we don't have to input every interviewee individually.
HireVue is ideal for programs with limited staff evaluation capacity and high application rates. Schools and summer camps would greatly benefit from this program.

We purchased HireVue to help with our hiring process as a ATS system. Originally we liked the concept of having interviews done before the initial contact. HireVue is a great concept. However, we found for our particular working model, people filling out resumes would stop when they found out they had to do a video interview. Our resume pool dropped considerably for certain departments. Again, fantastic concept and I would recommend HireVue to anyone, just not for us.
  • Customer service is outstanding. Available to answer questions and willing to do anything they could to help. Very friendly.
  • Great implementation team! Made the start up process go without a hitch.
  • Great concept. If you are looking for a way to not have to look through all those tedious resumes HireVue is a great product.
  • Ease of use for the applicant. We actually had some people call to say they could not use the product easily as their computers would not allow it.
  • Website is a little intimidating. As I mentioned before most stopped applying when they found out they had to do a video interview.
