Good starting software, probably not for scale
Overall Satisfaction with Mailchimp
For an entry level email marketing software, it's pretty decent. You will want to replace it with something more robust, like Klaviyo, as you reach scale. We still use Mailchimp for some of our ecommerce sites that we don't want affiliated with our main business in any way.
Pros
- Fast setup.
- Super intuitive to use.
- Good price.
Cons
- List management could be better.
- The WYSIWYG in-app email editor isn't great.
- Marketing automation triggers aren't robust.
- Immediate capability to reach out thousands of users.
- Increased site traffic and achieved higher than industry average CTRs.
- Lowered our overall portfolio CPC by using email marketing over PPC.
Our company actually uses a couple different pieces of email marketing software, as different verticals are different sizes and have different needs. Mailchimp is used by one of our smaller divisions since we don't need anything too fancy and want to keep overhead costs low. Overall, we were able to set it up quickly and get marketing, so it won for this particular product group.
We're able to better compile data for marketing spend ROI analysis. I.e. we can tie certain user behavior to their downstream spend data due to the API integration between our BigCommerce shop and Mailchimp. This is very helpful, since the managers are very analytical individuals and want to see decisions couched in data.
We were able to quickly launch proof of concept to the company owners in an effort to convince them to further invest in email marketing. They wanted us to see a crawl-walk-run approach when it comes to new initiatives. Mailchimp was the crawl approach to show them that email marketing had true ROI potential.
