Overall Satisfaction with ScienceLogic SL1

Currently, it's employed in our managed services practice across a couple hundred clients. We utilize ScienceLogic SL1 for alerting in break fix scenarios as well as health reporting in multiple technological disciplines.
  • Customization
  • Support
  • Pricing
  • Clarity around alerting
  • Roadmap for alerting and technologies
  • GUI and ease of use
  • Reporting
  • Cost per device and sales to customers has been an improvement.
  • Negative impact on LOE to tune alerting for multiple disciplines
Yes - Nimsoft and Zenoss. We wanted to look for a holistic product we could develop as a one-stop-shop and make SPOGs for customers in their environment instead of them managing five or six different links in a "Frankensteined" health portal. ScienceLogic SL1 still has a ways to go but it's getting there.
It has forced a re-adoption and fresh approach to the monitoring mentality that has been set in stone for a while. We're using this opportunity to bolster and improve what we should alert upon as well as tune out what we shouldn't--this has had both a positive and negative impact but moreso the former as customers are getting reports they previously did not have.
Cloud is a hot topic these days--one of the reasons for going with ScienceLogic SL1 was because of their focus of monitoring in the cloud, especially from an application perspective. With both a strong data center and cloud presence, it fit the bill from a marketing standpoint to go with it as the next big thing.
It hasn't fully yet. We are however taking advantage of the ServiceNow Integration to allow event correlation once SL1 feeds it into ITOM for "intelligent" alerting.
  • Improved collaboration alerting
  • A practical replacement for all alerting tools
ScienceLogic SL1 is a good tool for being a mile wide and two inches deep--it does a majority of things well, but the aforementioned tools are not only more expensive but cater to specific trades. Prognosis is centered around collab--LogicMonitor and Nimsoft being server/cloud, Spectrum being network.
For out of the box server monitoring as well as layer 3 alerting for networking, ScienceLogic SL1 is not entirely suited to this discipline yet. It is, however, easy enough to make dynamic packs and collect information needed once the OIDs are imported and you have a few capable developers.
