We use it to get calls to different departments and on the road associates. It also gives us a more professional image.
  • The option of voice over services.
  • The routing of callers.
  • Fax service.
  • VM transcript.
  • Larger minute plans.
  • Fax out services.
It is well suited for small businesses and allows employees to work from anywhere and is very cost-effective.

Essential Business Tool

Score 10 out of 10

We use it for all calls to the business. Forwarding options, message options, call blocking and fax. In addition, I find it useful for looking up callers who hang up. All caller numbers are recorded to toll-free numbers, even blocked ones. The new option that allows you to have a local number and be able to list it with any name and call with an iPhone app is invaluable.
  • Message boxes.
  • Call forwarding.
  • iPhone calling app.
  • Through the past 20 years, they have added many features based on suggestions. I cannot think of anything else I would want.
It is essential for our business and is very inexpensive.

Grasshopper is an easy and affordable phone solution for our business. We've been using Grasshopper for over 9 years now. We use it with two numbers and multiple extensions that allow us to easily route calls to the appropriate place. Being a small team we don't want everyone constantly dealing with support over the phone. Grasshopper allows us to have personal extensions that will get our customers in touch with us directly when necessary, and have unknown calls go straight to voicemail so that they are not disturbing our team.
  • Easy routing to multiple phone numbers including mobile phones
  • Call screening and flexible extension directories
  • Ability to receive voicemails as emails with audio attachments
  • The web interface is outdated and could use a design update.
  • Voicemail transcription has an additional cost
If you only need a single phone number and have no need for complex forwarding or extensions, then there is no need for Grasshopper. If you want more than that and need a professional setup for your business without the time and expense, Grasshopper is a great solution. No need to deal with expensive outdated hardware. Grasshopper is a virtual solution that will work with your employee's existing phone or smartphone.

In additon to ease of use and competitive pricing, Grasshopper allows our highly mobile team to manage customer tracking and CRM with the integrated app making it incredibly beneficial to use in an industry with highly varied schedules. Overall, Grasshopper offers an extensive set of integrated features for a very reasonable price, making it a definite win for small and small-medium businesses.
  • Automated Attendant Management
  • Contact Tracking
  • Adjustable Call Routing Schedules
  • The mobile app is somewhat lacking in support
Grasshopper would best used in teams with 1-15 members who need phone system use regularly without a dedicated landline. While the price is extremely competitive by comparison, it lacks some features of larger VOIP systems.

Grasshopper is very convenient and makes us mobile-friendly since we are always on the go.
  • Makes your phone like an 800 number.
  • Mobile access.
  • Ability to control the settings while being on the go.
  • Doesn't show the number calling, only shows your own number.
  • Sometimes tells us we missed a call when that was not actually the case.
Grasshopper is well suited for those who work on the road and need the professionalism of having an 800 number but can't always be in the office.

We are a 100% remote-based organization. Grasshopper enables us to have a phone system that connects to our employees whether they are in the office, on the road, etc. The virtual nature of the system allows incredible flexibility for us while giving us a very professional image. We recommend it highly to our clients as well.
  • Configuration.
  • Ease of use.
  • Voice quality.
  • Easier process for using the Grasshopper Voice Studio. The results are great, but the process was cumbersome.
  • A desktop VOIP phone would be great to compete with the likes of Vonage, 8X8, RingCentral, etc.
  • Call transfers are not as easy as a desk top system.
Grasshopper is great for small businesses with a mobile workforce. It is ideal for trade contractors, professional services companies, and any small business office environment where you don't deal with call transfers, intercom functionality, and a traditional receptionist. We used it to replace our receptionist -- while increasing our professional image.

Jumps Over The Competition!

Grasshopper is used across the organization (and by our sister company). Our employees are scattered and mobile, so we needed a simple way to address internal connectivity between one another as well as a seamless interface for our customers akin to the sorts of telephone systems with which they're used to interacting. With Grasshopper we can call from one "extension" to another as if we were down the hall from one another and, similarly, when a customer calls, they enter an "extension" and get connected to the person with whom they wish to speak.
  • Every "extension" forwards to personal numbers: employees can be stationed anywhere.
  • Extensions are changeable on the fly: numbers can be changed dynamically as needed.
  • When someone's not available, the voice mail system catches the call: everything looks conventional, but the VMs are forwarded to e-mail inboxes for easy review.
  • The only issue about which I am aware of is the speed at which calls are redirected to an employee's cell phone. In many cases the cell phone isn't located very quickly at all, so callers get sent to voice mail.
Grasshopper is well-suited for pretty much any environment, but excels in those situations where a portion of the work force is mobile or remote. When a company has a PBX-based phone system, calls to the toll-free Grasshopper-based system can be pointed to the PBX or to the individual employee's phone. Maximum flexibility. And, if you use the same extensions for the PBX and the Grasshopper system, when a call comes in, the caller is unaffected by the call's termination point. Whether it's the PBX or the Grasshopper system that answers, when the caller enters the extension, they're connected no matter which system answered or the called person's physical location. So, even if your work force is in the same location, Grasshopper is a simple way to add toll-free service if you mirror your conventional system's extension numbers in your Grasshopper setup.

As an independent contractor manager of a trade association, I need telephone service that will follow me everywhere and be constantly available to callers. Grasshopper fulfills that requirement perfectly. Calls to our local SW Ohio number and the North American toll-free number are routed flawlessly to my cell phone wherever I am located. I am able to conduct my client's business anywhere. In fact, yesterday morning I answered a call while in the shower!
  • It works seamlessly once set up.
  • Between Grasshopper and my cellular carrier callers have multiple options for leaving voice messages on those rare occasions when I am not able to answer immediately.
  • Perhaps most important, Grasshopper costs 1/3 what our former landline carrier did.
  • Grasshopper does everything I need. No complaints here.
Ten years ago we lost access to a full-time receptionist and an attended phone system that allowed calls to be answered and transferred to me or a technical support person. An answering service proved to be unsatisfactory. In searching for an acceptable alternative I came across Grasshopper and decided to try it. We want calls to the association to be answered every time and whenever possible directed immediately to a real person. Grasshopper does this well.

Great For Screening Tenants

It is being used across our property manager organization for tenants and potential tenants to communicate with us.
  • It has a great screening process. It keeps tenants from calling us for non-emergencies. Instead, they are directed to leave a voicemail or send us an email. Makes being a landlord much easier.
  • Sends voicemails to email so we always have a record of them.
  • Keeps our personal number private.
  • For the amount we use it, it’s too expensive. It would be better for larger-scale businesses, and we only have four sets of tenants. Would love to be able to pay per use.
It is well-suited for all organizations, except for those where price is a barrier.

We are a virtual (online only) travel agency, so each member of our team works remotely as we have no physical bricks & mortar location. We use Grasshopper because it provides us with many benefits, not the least of which is that it adds a professional voice and image to the handling of our business calls, along with allowing us to route them appropriately during our business hours, and provide a voicemail backup system when we are closed.
  • Extremely user-friendly interface - even non-tech-savvy users can manage their user setup and call handling on their own.
  • Excellent customer support.....on the few occasions that I've need help the Grasshopper team has been quick, helpful, professional, and friendly.
  • Impressive voice talent for those who don't want to (or shouldn't!) creates their own greetings and messages.
  • It would be nice to have the ability to transfer some calls to another Grasshopper IVR, for those customers who mistakenly dial the wrong number (we have two incoming numbers, one for corporate and one for sales).
  • Likewise, it would be nice to have the ability to forward to a toll-free number, which would have allowed us to work around the inability to transfer between IVRs (see above).
  • Lastly, it would be great to have an 'emergency' switch setting (default off but could be toggled on) that would let us override all IVR settings and transfer all incoming calls elsewhere (either to a direct dial or toll free number) for those rare times when we cannot take any calls (such as a weather emergency OR the one time each year we take all of our staff on a retreat) - that would allow us to send all calls to a backup answering service rather than just voicemail.
Grasshopper is one of many such service providers who fill a vital niche in the small business market, whether it's a one-person business or larger, where a professional telephone experience is desired. Many small businesses cannot afford to hire someone to just answer the phone and an answering service can sometimes be an obstacle, rather than an asset (I know, we've used several in the past). Grasshopper fills this void and stands out from their competition by doing it well and affordably, by being easy to use, and by providing excellent customer support.

We use Grasshopper to track various inbound call numbers to help determine the effectiveness of multiple marketing efforts. The reports features are also very useful in helping us monitor call length, peak periods, etc.
  • Easy to use.
  • Comprehensive reports.
  • Good value for the money.
  • Responsive customer service.
  • No live monitoring of calls.
  • Reports should be available as CSV downloads. It would be nice to view them within the app.
  • The user interface is a little dated.
A new startup business will find it very simple to set up a business phone number and enjoy full reporting and data immediately. The voice recorder studio has some great features to help a new business with a professional setup and phone response system. The mobile app is useful so that you can stay on top of your business at all times.

The Tripawds Foundation hosts a toll-free 24-hour Helpline to assist and support pet parents facing amputation for their dogs and cats. Our distributed staff of volunteer Tripawds Helpline hosts use the Grasshopper app to field calls and provide emotional support while directing users to helpful resources and assistance programs. Grasshopper makes it easy to schedule time slots for the hosts, and add, remove edit these times whenever necessary due to host availability. The platform and app allow our Helpline Hosts to easily identify unanswered calls and return calls without exposing their personal phone number. Setting up the account, recording hold messages, and segmenting extensions for different needs was quick and intuitive.
  • Offers a simple dashboard for scheduling live operator availability.
  • Intuitive interface for setting up account and recording hold messages.
  • Ease of use for non-technical users.
  • Conference calls require calling each participant, they can not call in to attend.

We use it as our primary phone line, I also have a line that I use as a direct number for business cards so I can avoid giving out my personal cell phone everywhere I go. So it's used across the whole organization and it manages all of our company phone calls. I also receive texts via Grasshopper.
  • Dialing out via the app.
  • Transcribed voice mail and VM via email.
  • The interface on the website is easy to use.
  • Sometimes I have issues receiving or making calls on my cell phone.
  • My phone provider sometimes blocks calls forwarded from Grasshopper because it thinks they are spam.
  • The SMS service seems to be inconsistent in reliability.
We work with a lot of small businesses and we find that it's a much better solution than having people use their personal cell phone but without the extreme expense or commitment of a business phone contract. It's perfect for a startup or a small organization getting their footing and trying to grow.

We use Grasshopper as our primary phone number for our church. Rather than having a landline forwarding calls to our cells, we simply have Grasshopper forward the calls. This is wonderful because in church ministry we benefit from NOT being tied to our desks. Our staff can receive calls from anyplace on their cells without giving out their personal numbers. Also, we have 'church office' hours set so that outside the hours we have automatic voicemails/emails. In case of emergency calls, we have an option that rings to my personal phone.
  • Offers a good answering service.
  • Setting open hours.
  • Forwarding emails that coincide with voicemails.
  • I get two voicemails and two emails with every message and I'm not sure how to change that.
  • I wish I could set my number to our specific city. It comes up as a city an hour away and sometimes confuses people.
  • I'd like more extensions for less $.
It's great for teams that don't want to be tied to their offices. For us, as a church, we enjoy the flexibility of traveling throughout the community without having to check back for messages. Also, this replaces a receptionist. Our cell phones are more powerful and we don't have to give out our personal numbers. Plus we can set open hours.

Grasshopper allows us the flexibility to receive calls on multiple devices in different locations. It's great. You can add different extensions and callers get professional timely answers. The Support team is great also when you have a problem or a question. If employees work from home or multiple sites, you can transfer the phone to them wherever they go, keeping the same business number.

Our entire company used Grasshopper. Since many of our team members work remotely, Grasshopper makes it easy to set up extensions, forward calls, ring multiple numbers, and have custom VoiceMail and VM to Email. We have 2 Toll-free numbers and a few local numbers. Each employee can log in and customize their VM and OOO messages. Grasshopper is both feature-rich and affordable.
  • Easy Setup, you can be up and running in 24 hours or less.
  • You get unlimited extensions, so growing your team doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
  • The Voicemail to email feature is great when you are on the go. You can even send voicemail messages to multiple people if needed.
  • The Voice to text (email) could be a bit more accurate, but sometimes it's because the person doesn't speak clearly or they have an accent and that can cause issues with the voice to text feature.
Grasshopper is the perfect system for Start-ups and small to medium size businesses. Incoming calls can be forwarded to business phone, cell, and others if needed. With unlimited extensions, it's easy to add a new employee. Great if you have remote workers.

When we first launched our company we chose grasshopper because we all had second jobs. Later when we progressed to having an office with a full-fledged phone system. Even after we began offering our home phone service we kept grasshopper as a backup solution which works wonderfully. Price and value are very good and having a backup system in the cloud things that we never have to risk missing I call.
  • Forwarding
  • Easy configuration
  • Ability to get new numbers and assigned them rapidly
  • I would like to see the softphone feature completely redone.
  • I would like grasshopper calls that are coming in on my cell phone to launch in the grasshopper app so I can clearly see immediately if it was coming from my phone or grasshopper app.
  • Integration with premise-based systems would be a very useful solution.
Start-up businesses and very small businesses that don't require a physical phone handset are ideal the grasshopper. There have been numerous times when we have met with people who needed the phone solution and it just didn't make sense sell them something more expensive considering the way that they use their phones.

We use Grasshopper as our sole business phone line. We do not have a hard landline. We are a team of three with two based in NY and one in Nevada. Grasshopper allows each of us to have an extension and calls are routed directly to our cell phones. Since we are constantly on the go it's great not to have to worry about missing important calls as well as always appearing professional since our business line is "always on" regardless of where we are. It's perfect for a small organization like ours (or even a large one) that are not centrally located.
  • Since calls always come into my cell phone from the same Grasshopper number I just saved that number in my phone as my company name. So I always know when a call is coming in for my company and that it's not a personal call. Of course, all calls are saved and logged in Grasshopper so if I need to go back and check the actual caller ID I can do that.
  • All voicemails are immediately sent as audio files in an email to the email address on file for each extension. I personally love this feature. I can choose to go into the Grasshopper app to listen to them but its use so much more convenient to get an email, open it up and listen right from the email. The caller ID for the call is also included in the email text. So all the info I need for any missed calls is right there. Great stuff.
  • By far, one of my favorite features is the option to receive faxes to the same business number. Even though fax is being used less these days it is still used quite a bit and being able to receive faxes and having them immediately emailed to me is great.
  • The ability to transfer calls from extension to extension (as in cell phone to cell phone) is great. It doesn't matter where my colleague is. I can send the call to the right person and it's ringing on their phone in seconds.
  • There isn't much I can think of, although right now one of my team members isn't having her calls come through for some reason. We have to troubleshoot it and see if it isn't an issue with her phone first. But obviously its never good when things like that happen. Can't put the blame anywhere yet as we haven't yet looked at the issue.
  • Placing calls from within the Grasshopper app isn't always so solid. I've tried placing outgoing calls from the app and I've had issues where the person I called couldn't hear me or the call would just drop out of nowhere. It hasn't happened in a while but it did happen a few times when I first started using it. Admittedly that was over 4 years ago so it may not be an issue anymore.
  • This is a little out there but it would interesting if there were an option to SEND faxes as well. If I could take pictures of a document with my phone, or if there is an existing pdf file on my phone, the ability to send it would be great. It seems a little unnecessary because at that point you might think, well why not just email it? I agree but there are still some people and companies out there (strangely) that like to receive things via fax (i.e. the IRS still has some services that can only be taken care of if documents are mailed or faxed in). I'm sure eventually this will go the way of the dinosaur though.
The ability to have a business phone system "in the cloud", that allows my company to have the appearance of a centralized location, with no downtime on answering or returning calls is great. It also allows me to not have to give out my personal cell phone number to clients and contacts that I wouldn't want to have it. It gives me peace of mind and also adds efficiency for me and my team even as we are spread out throughout the country. For larger organizations with a centralized location where everyone works together it might not be necessary, and actually rather too cumbersome. In those cases, a dedicated VoIP phone system would certainly be a better option.

My organization used Grasshopper to connect callers with departments and individuals instead of a landline. The whole organization used it and it helped cut the cost of a trunk line for all of the extensions we needed. The support was pretty good with a fast response rate but the system was not particularly user-friendly and required an in-office support person to utilize it well.
  • Customer support is pretty good which is important if you're managing the lines for your company.
  • Their pricing is competitive with other services of this type.
  • Their interface is not the worst I've seen.
  • Their pricing could be more competitive for what they offer.
  • It's been a while since I've used Grasshopper but their extension logic wasn't all that great.
  • I'd like to see how they could improve the speed of technical support.
For a smaller company it's a great tool. Be careful with extra pricing for things you don't need. A larger company would probably find Grasshopper somewhat limiting so be prepared to scale to a different model. A very small company would be priced out of Grasshopper although it would make a 1 or 2 person office sound way bigger.

When you want to implement a large phone system but you don't have a budget for many separate numbers, this is where Grasshopper comes in. We use it as our main extension for our circus school. Our different agents each have extensions that forward directly to their cell phones which allows us to maximize our reach.
  • The calls sent directly to your cell phone is a huge plus.
  • I really enjoy receiving the voice messages in email form so I can listen to them on my computer.
  • The process of selecting a phone number and getting everything set up was straightforward
  • The user interface feels slightly dated
  • Little bit of a learning curve figuring out how to set up everything
It is well suited if you run a business, work with many contractors, and want each contractor to have a phone number that is able to be reached from a mainline. This is where Grasshopper excels. You get your main number and apply extensions for all the people you work with, then your company could be unified with one phone number. Each contractor can still have their own cell phone with their own personal number and just received a forwarded call. This helped us a lot!
