This is great for small to medium businesses, giving you more freedom to be where you need to be and not always glued to the office. Larger companies can benefit from the fact that they can have multiple office locations all tied to the same system. Businesses that need a more personal touch may not need all the features that the Virtual Office provides.

MiCloud Connect (formerly ShoreTel)

There are other vendors out there that are plug and play with just an Internet connection. You have to compare feature sets that you need (not so much want) especially when it comes to management of users. The ShoreTel Sky management interface has improved over the last quarter and is easier to use

Pros

  • Conference call feature is great. We have created multiple conference bridges, we even have one tied to our virtual attendant.
  • We like the flexibility of the auto attendant and being able to have more than one profile saved that we can change as needed
  • Having Virtual office was especially great when hurricane Irma came through last year and our office had no power, it allowed us to continue to operate from our cell phones without the customer realizing there was anything different.

  • Call quality is very good. Dedicated circuit for QoS is helpful.
  • Support is also very good. Receive US based support staff when calling in. Issues resolved quickly.
  • They are continuously growing in support and service.

Cons

  • I'd like to see better connectivity between the call center system and the desktop user. 4 digit dialing is a must for us but we are waiting for that functionality.
  • I'd like 8x8 to understand that we are on the east coast and stop calling for follow up after our EST hours.

  • Issue with fail over. Determination has to be made to fail-over to DR site. This could take an additional 45 mins to 1 hr. when decision is made. You can be down for some time already before they flip.
  • Looking for better choices of handsets/easier programming for off-net phones.

I believe ShoreTel Sky will only get better, they have made great improvements since we signed up and as long as progress is clearly visible and rates don't get higher, I see no reason why we wouldn't renew. As long as they continue to improve, integrating them further is always a possibility.

The client application is easy to navigate and intuitive for all the frequently used call and phone management features. On the server side, well-organized menu selections appropriately grouped by function, make locating specific settings much quicker. As you drill further into the detailed settings, the pages with their various fields are well-labeled, and help is easy to find on their intended contents. As an administrator of the system I became proficient in its use with little training

I've never had an issue in the somewhat limited time I've been using ShoreTel. The stability of the software is very sturdy, and relatively easy to use. I don't really have issues regarding the availability of the software from my place of work

We have found that there are very few issues that are extremely hard to solve. The majority of the issues are resolved on the first call and are able to be done remotely.

I attended the first ShoreTel installer class in Austin,TX. It was a week of intensive study with a live lab and having hands on experience made the class worthwhile. I have taken all of the sales courses and remaining technical courses either online or self study to keep costs down. I send my techs to the first installer course in Austin as I feel it gives them a solid foundation and most of teh other courses they have taken have been online.

Content is good and teh course material fills in any areas the instructor doesn't cover. Only pet peeve is the tests always have questions for things you don't learn from the course or course materials....

It's really only useful for offices with more than 20 employees. Smaller offices don't really require this kind of communication infrastructure, and while ShoreTel is useful for just about any office size, it's a resource that I don't know smaller offices would really utilize fully. It's a great system in terms of managing workflow in an environment that receives a fair amount of call traffic both externally and internally.

Aptela. I chose M5 (ShoreTelSky) because their platform puts call quality first. Their system also uses Cisco endpoints, which are very compatible with the rest of my Cisco network. I also liked the fact that ShoreTelSky uses the internet only as a backup for transport; I use MPLS as my primary connectivity.

I believe that ShoreTel can be used by a minimum company size of about 25 to almost any size of a company and this can be achieved while the company grows, hence makes it pretty scalable when required. For companies which are smaller in size i.e. smaller than 25, I am not sure how useful it would be, it may be depending upon the type of business
