8x8 Virtual Office

We were using another VoIP service before and we constantly have to restart meetings due to sound quality. After 2 hours of conferences, the sound would completely go out and you couldn't understand anyone.

After switching over to 8x8, that never happens. 4-5 hour calls are now bearable.

MiCloud Connect (formerly ShoreTel)

Well, I have been informed of newer cloud solutions that only rely on plugging the phones into the network and not needing any PRI or phone system on prem. This would make for a very inexpensive phone system. I am not sure how inter-office calls would work if the internet is down however.

  • The system up-time has been 100% over 3 years.
  • With separate systems and two locations we used to have to fake the system into 4 digit dialing by forwarding all remote extensions to DIDs. Now with Shortel extended to the remote location we have true 4 digit dialing.
  • The Shortel desktop application makes managing calls and call routing a breeze for even our most novice users.

Cons

  • Outdated UI. Aesthetically, 8x8 is not overly impressive. If you told me nothing about the software and only showed me some screenshots, I might venture to guess that it's a software from the mid 90s.
  • Lacking intuitive UX. I'm someone that typically picks up a software very fast. When I first started with 8x8, I recall stumbling through my first couple of weeks of interaction. That tells me that the UX could use some work.

  • We have been a little disappointed with the amount of service interruptions and the communications to us during those outages.

I've never had an issue in the somewhat limited time I've been using ShoreTel. The stability of the software is very sturdy, and relatively easy to use. I don't really have issues regarding the availability of the software from my place of work

I attended the first ShoreTel installer class in Austin,TX. It was a week of intensive study with a live lab and having hands on experience made the class worthwhile. I have taken all of the sales courses and remaining technical courses either online or self study to keep costs down. I send my techs to the first installer course in Austin as I feel it gives them a solid foundation and most of teh other courses they have taken have been online.

Content is good and teh course material fills in any areas the instructor doesn't cover. Only pet peeve is the tests always have questions for things you don't learn from the course or course materials....

We worked with a third party vendor who set up the system and assisted in rolling it out. All of the configuration worked out of the box and has been running without issue since it was installed. We got great training and the system was very easy to manage and teach to new users.

Ten times better and easier to use than 3cx. Interface and features are simple.

Much more user friendly/intuitive, better software experience and does not have the multitude of hardware failures that we experienced under Avaya's product.

I believe that ShoreTel can be used by a minimum company size of about 25 to almost any size of a company and this can be achieved while the company grows, hence makes it pretty scalable when required. For companies which are smaller in size i.e. smaller than 25, I am not sure how useful it would be, it may be depending upon the type of business

  • By switching to 8x8 Virtual Office, our small office saved money over our traditional PBX system.
  • 8x8 Virtual Office eliminated any of the hardware issues we faced with our traditional PBX system, since everything is handled virtually online.
  • The ease of using the online interface saved our company time in setting up and making changes to our phone system.
