1. We changed ship dates on individual product pages depending on customer location so they would have an accurate timeline for their orders. This really helped lower our volume of customer service calls on tracking orders.2. We have stores as well as an online presence. With Target we were able to advertise sales on b-stock items from our warehouse to our local customers without letting those that live outside a certain radius see the promo.3. If your marketing team doesn't have a tech background this software has a steep learning curve. There is quite a bit of manual configuration required. The image carousel is one example that we struggled with.

It is well suited for A/B testing and personalisation. The product recommendation algorithms are varied and intelligent. They grow smarter over time which optimises the conversion opportunities we have with our customers. Great to use for splitting traffic and serving different variations. Additionally, the multi-campaign touch tool is a great way to build out the customer journey and test multiple experiences.

Pros

  • The product interface is very easy to use. Tests are easy to set up and manage.

  • A/B Testing of Creative - this feature allows us to trial multiple creatives and messages without having to force a choice between any one. This gives us much greater freedom in messaging and improves our development workflow by not artificially restricting our choices.
  • Audience Segmentation - We can segment our audience based on behavior (social sharing, content consumption rates, etc.) and target them with messaging specific to their interests. We can then provide reports on how different audience segments are interacting with our content, and especially how our differentiated messaging is helping to improve those interaction rates.
  • Display Ads - We have used this feature to create display ads that run through our ad system, but they allow us greater flexibility to A/B test creative. We have also used this to provide retargeting or purchased ads to third parties, and this give us much more control over the deployment and testing of creatives without needing to send the third-party new ad codes.

Cons

  • Documentation: There is an overall lack of documentation, and lack of a user community for more assistance.
  • Integration with server side scripting (you must convert everything to client side).
  • The user interface is difficult to navigate and use.

  • Code editor is a little wonky, so best to write your code elsewhere and the paste into DY. I wish there was an editor similar to the one Optimizely has for setting up tests. I'm sure this is something I will see down the road.
  • Implementation (Was very smooth though, but this can always be improved)
  • Mobile view for editing experience.
  • Requires a developer for a lot of aspects. Not completely plug and play depending on how your site is built.

Internal challenges, as well as lack of support from the Adobe team make it a tough decision to prove the value of the tool: We struggled with organizing a team of stakeholders internally to own and manage the product - which contributed to being able to make full use of the tool and prove its value. We reached out to Adobe for support, but they weren't able to provide us help internally (which was understood). We struggled with overall support from Adobe and had a few switches in terms of account managers/contacts from Adobe that did not help us stay on track either.

implementation took a long time but also, DY has really proven that they are transforming and adapting their platform to be more user friendly and the right technology choice for their brand or company

They have some idea of how to debug problems, but much of the time was spent on understanding hierarchical structure of the support team because escalation often slow

In-Person Training

Adobe Target8.1
Based on 3 answers
The instructor that came to train us was awesome and this training was very useful. I would recommend it for anyone who is going to be using this software. I only mark it lower because it is an added expense to an already expensive product, and a lot of the training covered the "Target" portion of the software (which again, we didn't use)

Online Training

Adobe Target6.1
Based on 3 answers
The training was very easy to understand, however it would have been more useful to my development team than me. It was also primarily over-the-phone, which is never as easy to follow as in-person. We ended up scheduling and paying for an in-person training session to supplement the online/phone training because it wasn't helpful enough.

Alternatives Considered

Webtrends Optimize was on the list. Ultimately, my previous experience with Adobe T&T led us to make the decision to use it.
Bryant Hoopes profile photo
Optimizely had a better code editor/wysiwyg , but was way more limited in the scope of personalization and testing.

Return on Investment

  • Increased bookings.
  • Increased Conversions Rates.
  • Ability to implement personalization models.
  • Integrate with 3rd party solutions such as Jira, Qlikview, etc. but took good bit of development to do.
No photo available
  • Increase in customer loyalty and returning customers within recent months.
  • No significant increase in revenue (yet) as we're only running for 3+ months.
  • Increase in number of newsletter subscribers.
