As long as you have someone on the eTime side that knows what they are doing to go to when you have issues, you are good to go. If you have anything too complex and you don't have a rep that knows your system, good luck.

  • Their reporting tool is a nightmare and they are well aware. They are running an extremely old version of Cognos and for anything complicated, it's basically unusable for an HR professional. Customer reports are very challenging if you don't know how to write code and then of course you have to pay their consultants to do the work if it doesn't get done during implementation. There's no way that this solution could ever be deployed outside of HR as it would be unusable for business stakeholders on a self service basis. The caveat I'll make here is that they are about to update it so they realize how bad the situation is.
  • Time and Attendance has its pro's and con's. If you need non-exempt employees to track their hours and you want the tool to integrate with payroll, it's largely fine. But there are some issues to be aware of. 1) Time and Attendance was not built by UltiPro. It was acquired and integrated with the rest of their suite. While this isn't uncommon in the HR Tech industry, it's caused all of the usual problems here. The most frustrating problem I've experienced is service limitations. There seem to be a very small number of customer service reps who really know the time and attendance module so issues linger. 2) Time and Attendance is not a true scheduling tool. If you run a complex business with multiple shifts, etc. do not expect to use UltiPro for the scheduling piece. It will not integrate well with whatever software stores business information driving scheduling and it's just cumbersome. Tracking hours, yes. Scheduling, no.

Nov 2018 Update: I'm always in support of keeping Ultipro at my organization, and I spend a great deal of time showing people how to use it effectively so that they too continue to push for keeping the Ultipro HCM solution when the time comes to decide to renew the HCM solution or not.

April 2016: I use UltiPro every day and find value in all of the features that are available to this organization. While I am not responsible for deciding on staying with this HCM solution and renew it in the future, I am a huge supporter for staying with the solution because it packs quite a punch when used as intended.

In some ways, the flexibility of eTime makes it much more usable than some time card systems. I can log my own hours at my convenience (as long as it is during the pay period), and eTime sends me a reminder email 24 hours before the cut-off for each pay period. I can log hours for multiple positions using particular pay codes, although there is no way for me to save frequently used or "my" pay codes -- adding this feature would be a much-appreciated improvement to eTime's usability. Juggling multiple pay codes within the current system, however, is cumbersome. There can also be problems if an incorrect or overlapping hour is accidentally entered and saved -- certain fields turn red and are difficult to adjust, often requiring the help of a software administrator. Correcting other errors and entering historical hours is extremely difficult, and the software does not work well on some browsers (and it is unattractive when I have been able to get it to work)

The usability of this product is super! Good flow for the navigation, good layout for employees to understand. It does take some training for your employees to figure out some of the features, but those that get used to technology quickly will have no problems. You'll need to spend more time with your late adopters of technology.

UltiPro rarely has a connectivity issue. If so, you immediately are notified via email and it is fixed very quickly. The pages load very fast and there is very little down time or lag time. The reports are amazing! Each and every field is reportable. Simply drag and drop the field into a preview window and you can instantly see a sample of the report you are creating. Even complex reports complete almost instantly

With our prior Payroll/HR software, we could reach a support person with one call. We had a dedicated team assigned to our account. Ultimate uses a case system whereby you must enter a case (support ticket) and wait for a call back on that case. (NOTE: they do offer a direct line for payroll processing emergencies). But sometimes you just need to reach a person to ask a quick question or two so you can move on with your work. Not having that ability is a very big negative. You are given contact information for all of your support reps (you receive a support rep for each area of UltiPro that you use). However, they never answer your call or email in a timely manner. I will say, however, since going LIVE with UltiPro in December 2013, support has improved. It used to be much worse.

We switched to UltiPro specifically for its scalability due to having locations in both the US and Canada and continuing to add new locations. It has been working very well for us, and allows us to add and manage new entities relatively simply and manage data for multiple different locations and pay groups. It has made handling our data simpler, as previously we had two different systems for our US and Canada operations.
