The number of built-in layouts. There have been times when the marketing needed quick implementation of content and we were able to produce it quickly.

The only issue I've really come across is certain plugins don't always work as intended and require additional customization.

  • It does have bloat for what we are using it for. However, we are in the process of expanding our content to utilize all the features.
Was not there for the initial release.

We were having a problem with content not going to the trashcan when removed. The support staff had a call with me, and I was able to duplicate the issue. He then escalated the problem to the development staff.

When I started working at Spirotech they were "ready" to launch a new website. Unfortunately, the "new" website was no more than a couple of images. Knowing that we do business in multiple countries (even expanding) I knew I needed a solid and easy-to-use WCM system to build our websites on. I did some research in regard to WCM systems and possible (implementation) partners. After a short but intensive process, I came to the conclusion that EPIserver/Optimizely was the best option for us with Delaware Belgium as our partner. After signing the contract we were able to set up 4 fully functional websites incl. an integration of a PIM/DAM system for our products, within 7 months. So setting up the system and building the websites!
  • Ease-of-use for handling content and building websites
  • Perfect for dealing with multiple websites (language wise and different websites)
  • Excellent support and service from Optimizely
  • The flexibility/functionality of forms
  • Ease of handling formdata towards a CRM system
  • Maybe more "out-of-the-box" solutions (a.o. blocks) for faster implementation
  • Switch of cache on images/assets, makes it difficult for designing pages/blocks (uploading changed image should be there on the spot ;-))
I already work with EPI/Optimizely for more than 10 years and found out (in practice) that it is a very easy-to-use platform to handle multiple (I managed 16) websites at the same time not only in different countries but also languages. I also know that it is easy to learn for colleagues so they can change texts (and pages). I have to be honest to say that designing pages is not difficult but you need to understand the Customer Experience (psychology) to create nice-looking and easy-to-read pages. But once the page is designed (master) it is easy to get the data (different text/languages) in. All data is easy to structure and to control in all languages.

  • Create brand-awareness and knowledge on solutions (educate potential customers)
  • Generate high qualified leads
  • From concept to market in a short time
  • More in-house (saves lot of costs)
  • Optimal control of "what is going" on and the ability to act fast in case of changes
End of September 2019 we signed the contract with Optimizely and our partner Delaware (Belgium). In the next 6 months the frame and design of the websites were set up and the data (texts, images, etc.) were set up and collected. At the beginning of April 2020 the first 4, most important websites were set up and launched. In the next 5 months, another 4 websites, in a different language/country) were set up based on the master. This is including the integration of PIM/DAM data for our product range! Now we have 3 different types of websites running 11 Spirotech websites, 1 Eder-Spirotech website, and 1 non-branded website all on the same Optimizely platform with different designs/set-up.
Magento fell off the list in an early stage because we didn't need a webshop functionality. We needed a "content/marketing platform. In regard to Sitecore I concluded that handling multiple websites in multiple languages was less flexible and a bit more complex in this matter. Together with our partner, the decision was made for EPI/Optimizely. In this matter my previous experience with EPI/Optimizely was good as well. But, I have to make the remark that the EPI/Optimizely system is great but if it is implemented wrong (basic idea behind building/set-up and design of the website) it will never work, with any system. So think before you do, the basis of the website is extremely important.

I am a Digital Marketeer and experienced in using Optimizely. At this moment we don't have any editors for several reasons:
  • Despite that is is quite easy-to-use, you need to be in regularly to know what to do and how
  • I know can control what is going live on our websites (double check on information
1
I am the support with help from our Partner and Optimizely
  • Lead creation
  • (Brand-)awareness, make people aware of issues and provide solutions
  • Provide information on "the fly" to our customers
  • Optimized online presence (incl. SEA)
  • Multiple website within a glance
  • Save time (and money) on updates
  • Maximize amount of (product)infomation for our (potential) customers
  • Become relevant to (potential) customers and to Search Engines (SEO)
  • Handle campaigns support Marketing efforts
  • More language/country websites to create more (brand-)awareness
  • Optimized leadsgeneration
It is a pleasure to work with and in such a system. It is sophisticated but easy-to-use and provides a lot of possibilities to build, control and maintain websites.
Yes
A very old, outdated, and simple web content management system (can't even remember the name. The system was no longer supported and could by far not fulfill the needs of Spirotech. We had a PIM/DAM, which should/could be used to present product related data. So one way or the other we were in need of a new, functional WCM system that would fulfill our future needs.
  • Scalability
  • Integration with Other Systems
  • Ease of Use
Ease of use: complex systems can do their job but if it is too complex (and costly) to get things done it will never work. So the first thing I looked at was the ease-of-use of the system looking at our requirements. Compared to the other systems, Optimmizely was the one who gave the best experience in this matter.
I would not change it since the way I did it a couple of years ago still would be relevant. Maybe I would take some other systems in consideration but the way I would look at it isn't changed. As mentioned, the ease-of-use and functionality are the most important items to keep in mind. And in this matter also counts what comes "out-of-the-box" and what needs to added-on (costs) or programmed. The more out of the box, the better it will function ;-)

It help us to to manage our site in a good way. I love the interface and is relatively fast after it loads the first time. That first load is the thing I don't like. I think is a good tool overall and the CMS is very powerful. Sometimes, I'm amazed of how simple some configuration can be made.
  • Easy interface
  • Fast after the first load
  • Customizable
  • Speed the first time it loads
  • Some options are difficult to find.
It does the job nicely. It requires training at the beginning, but if you get used to it you know is powerful. I drop one point only for speed the first time you run locally. After that, it works as expected and personally I don't have any complain besides that statement.

  • We can manage our website in a simple way
  • My only complain is speed every time you build locally. Besides that, is an excellent tool.
  • I think it has help on the ROI but I don't make that decision.
Is not difficult, but requires training as any other software in the market. I started from scratch and I was able to adapt. There are a lot of functionalities I don't know yet. I still learning every day and getting trainings to be better at it and use the most I can.
I was not at the implementation even if I was involved on the research initially. What I can tell is that I can setup a test environment easily when I need it. So, I think depending of your business it can be more complicated to get it running as any other tool.
