What is Acumatica?

Acumatica delivers a set of cloud-based business software applications with dashboards, reporting tools, integrated document management, centralized security, and customization tools. It is a modular offering and can be deployed in multiple ways to accommodate business needs, either as an ERP or a narrower (and less expensive) accounting solution with the Financial Management Suite. Other modules are the Project Accounting Suite (budgeting, payroll and time sheet, analytics, and other functions), the Distribution Management Suite (purchasing, ordering, inventory tracking, order filling) and the Customer Management Suite (general CRM capabilities). Unlike many ERPs, Acumatica is not industry specific, and touts capabilities of interest to retailers, eCommerce users, even non-profits, and other possible small to medium-sized businesses desiring to automate business processes.

We use Acumatica for project accounting and construction job costing. We use the GL and AP modules. We are in the commercial construction industry and built large projects such as hotels and public use buildings.

I think Acumatica is good for project based accounting. We struggle with billing our customers. Time and Material was not set up. For % of complete, it does not update based on the amount of expenses charged to the job during the month. Our general conditions are done out of Acumatica and it would be better if they were done within the system instead of a GL entry.

I'm an integration engineer. Our current problem is more internal, we're trying to hire for our Acumatica team. Our biggest issue is lack of available / personable / modern engineers, to which we're excited about the introduction to the javascript ecosystem. JS engineers are objectively easier to hire for. That being said, it was a terrible decision on Acumatica's part to use Aurelia.js. Use a defacto standard like React or Angular. Aurelia literally says in their banner "Join thousands creating next-gen apps" while there are literally millions of engineers using react and angular. Whoever picked Aurelia likely thought deno.js would be the next big thing as well (spoiler alert, it wasn't - TypeScript became a thing.)

The learning curve is steep, the engineering platform is locked to windows, the front-end UI is clunky at times (and leads to weird scenarios where processes are running using the UI framework that affect the DB and transactions, specifically during snapshots). I also don't like the lack of support, and the lack of transparency or modularity if we were to host our own instance.

Mainly I use Inventory, Purchase Orders, Production, and Sales order modules in Acumatica. We were trying to connect the inventory with the accounting system initially, and now our goal is to derive more data and make live decisions.

Acumatica assists our company in streamlining various organizational processes ranging from quality reporting, notifications triggering from certain business events to ensure the appropriate outputs are achieved, as well as dashboard and other report creations that ensure we meet our goals in each area of the company.

We use Acumatica as our ERRP and customer service portal. There are some good things about how the notifications work and parent records that are an issue for Example for ticketing I can't have a Parent and only let some people have access to their specific child. For example, it is a global business that is set up into regions and those regions have areas that are managed individually. I cant only give access to a region or an area easily and give certain people global access.

Expenses are my biggest issue. I have to enter the same thing on each line over and over when I think that it should be able to be set at a master for example the project number. If I have 15 items to expense I have to enter the same project number on each line.

Acumatica is our core financial software. We added on non profit plus (npp). We have a large grant portfolio and need a robust accounting system with a non profit focus. We are generally satisfied with Acumatica but non profit plus has been a real challange and we believe is unworkable with Acumatica.
