What is Sage Intacct?

Sage Intacct is a cloud-based financial accounting software system with functionalities for small to mid-sized businesses. Sage Intacct delivers an array of core accounting applications such as a general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, and order management to any accounting department or finance team. It also supports functionality for built-in dashboards, real time reporting, time and expense management, project accounting, revenue management, and global consolidations for multiple entities.

We have been live on Intacct for 9 months and have felt like we were all thumbs. Attending the Sage Transform conference has been game-changing. The amount of knowledge gained in a few short days is immeasurable.

We use Sage Intacct for the general ledger, AP invoice, and payment function, and we receive cash against outstanding AR invoices that we process in our ERP. We implemented Sage Intacct to make us more efficient, to have a cloud-based system, and to improve our financial reporting.

We use Sage Intacct for our corporate financial management, job costing, and time & expense. We moved from Quickbooks to Sage Intacct in 2013 because we needed a platform that could grow with our business. Dimensional reporting allows us to get granular data across different categories of our work so we can make better decisions faster.
  • The CRE module allows us to see the historical changes to project budgets
  • The collaboration tool allows us to send communications to other users that have input or need to know certain transactional details
  • The dashboards allow us to create easy access, one-stop shopping for various user types, so they don't have to hunt around the whole platform to get what they need
  • The tiered approvals allow us to have been oversight and control on job costs
  • The ability to attach electronic records, receipts, and other documents allow us to store less paper and access more complete information in one place
  • The open platform allows us to integrate with other applications to streamline our operations
  • The mobile app isn't very user-friendly
  • "Project estimate" disappears from the Projects Module Menu - Dennis Stejskal knows about this - I think a solution is in the works
  • There are some fields on timesheets that could auto-populate based on other cells, but you always have to manually type them (ex, direct labor)
  • When we duplicate a project, some of the data doesn't come over, so you have to manually enter it
For us, we're all about working smarter, not harder. Sage Intacct's open platform makes it an ideal solution for our growing business. There isn't a single software that can solve all our needs, but Sage Intacct has great partners in the marketplace, like Procore and Workforce Go!, that solve specific issues for our growing construction business.

Sage is amazing for a tiny nonprofit team. Its embedded internal controls fill in gaps where a small team may be weak in internal controls. Dimensions, statistical accounts and entries, and computational account groups are amazing features that aren't available in other software programs.

We use Sage Intacct as our finance system for Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, grant tracking, and much more. Being a non-profit agency, it is important that we are able to track our funds and spending. We heavily rely on reporting to prove out with auditing as well. We are state and federal grant-funded, so we must keep detailed records of how we spend every dollar. This also allows us to budget for upcoming projects.

We changed to have the flexibility of restrictions, projects, to improve reporting and transparency. Also dashboards give users information in real time to save accounting time.

We use Intacct as the source of truth for all of our financial reporting and management of our locations. We heavily rely on the ability of ancillary products to integrate with Intacct to deliver on efficiency, effectiveness, and accuracy. Our biggest hurdle is the inability of various platforms to accommodate our non-standard period end.

Our financials did not have the detail we needed to provide meaningful analysis, which meant if we were doing a quarter over quarter analysis, we would at times be working through 36+ spreadsheets. Revenue was posted into our old accounting software as a two-line journal entry forcing my team and I to work through too many spreadsheets to provide meaningful analysis i.e. mountains of manual reports. Sage Intacct allows us to import revenue from 6/7 different sources to provide us the granularity and detail in our revenue reports we have been looking for. Additionally, we now have stat accounts. Creating further visibility and insights into our revenue streams. We have automated our AP process. From a reporting standpoint, we have built at least 40 financial reports, probably more like 50. I have even built financial reports for our Board Reports. We build them once, we rerun them with our financials for the correct period. I have also built Custom Reports that will calculate our residual payments, new revenue by sales person. The reporting capabilities are amazing. We went live June 1st and just had our first 4-day close since I have been with the company (4 months in). We have been able to automate the residual calculations for most of our cc distributors, meaning less errors, cleaner reports. Intact has been a life saver! I am excited to keep learning more about Intacct and how to do checklists in Intacct and extra dashboards!

  • We use the projects module for additional dimensions - allow users like myself to do mass update to projects. I was told by Intacct I couldn't do mass update. I could have sworn Armanino said I could? Not sure.
Our financial reporting was so manual. We have automated most of our monthly financials and all of our quarterly financials, as well as board reports. I have had many compliments that our financials look more professional. I am looking forward to automating our Audit process and our Audit reports.

Intacct may not be suitable for very small business, i.e. mom and pop shops or for those who are not looking to automate!

We use Sage Intacct to properly maintain Construction Industry job costing and employee timesheets, analyze payroll and allocation data and build high-level financial reporting. We also complete all AP, AR, and customer/client billing. We use Sage Intacct for multiple clients and many of those have multiple entities. Intacct allows our employees to have one login to access all of this data. This makes our staff more efficient and eliminates the hassle of switching between different companies in the accounting system.
  • Sage Intacct allows you to pay the same vendors for multiple entities and only requires that you enter or update Vendor information once.
  • Sage Intacct allows you to simplify your Chart of Accounts by providing many dimensions to classify and report on your financial information.
  • Intacct allows consolidated Financial Reports at the push of a button. No cumbersome spreadsheets!
  • It would be helpful if credit card charges could be reclassified after they have been reconciled and/or been in a charge payoff. There are times when the coding error is not found until the month end review process. Correcting by entering a journal entry is cumbersome.
  • Setting up users with different permissions in separate entities in the same Sage Intacct Company.
  • Making smart rules and smart events easier to create for someone that understands basic coding principles, but does not know the specific coding language currently used to create smart rules and smart events.
It is appropriate for organizations that are currently juggling multiple logins for separate entities. It is especially beneficial when the financial reports for those separate entities are combined into one Financial Reporting package. If an organization can function in their current accounting software with no complaints or pain points, then a switch to Intacct may not be appropriate. However, if managing the Month End close process includes consolidating in Excel, Sage Intacct may open a whole new world of opportunities for the organization.

We use the product every day to handle our AR and reporting. We use it to categorize spending as well plan and manage budgets. It integrates very well with Bill.com which is a big time saver with data entry. It is also great to track YTD spending and compare with budgets.

We use Sage as our accounting and financial reporting system. The dashboards are a great tool to help non-financial staff monitor their program performance from an administrative lens. The electronic sharing of reports is environmentally friendly, and helps move our corporate culture to become a learning and data informed organization.

  • Ability to color code net activity green color is good. Red needs attention.

We use Sage Intacct to process our invoices, JE's & reconciliation at the end of the month.

  • Being able to hit view on the invoice side and everything attach to it opens up, instead of having to click the attachment.
  • Being able to edit a JE that you fail to put a reverse date on. Instead of having to create a whole another entry.
Uploading your JE to the systems is one of my favor experiences. My least favorite would be having to do everything separate from the system. Ex: Creating a spreadsheet to do your upload on.
