I'd recommend Linode for anyone that wants to run their own servers, whether the need is large or small. The only situations where I wouldn't recommend Linode is when the person doesn't actually want to work at the server level (like someone that just wants to create a website for their business).

Most appropriate: small to mid-size companies who need to run websites, email, and other services (e.g., Confluence or Jira) in a cost-effective manner, and on virtual servers with quite usable CPU, memory, and networking. Less appropriate: use by companies who are unable or unwilling to have the technical staff necessary to manage the server (e.g., installing apps, setting up databases) and associated services. Using Linode mostly requires skills in working with Linux systems through a shell, although Linode provides some web-based tools to make this a bit easier.

If you search for a hosting provider for your own virtual machines where performance and reliability is important, Linode is the way to go. Also if you develop your own software and sell it, it's a great way to deliver it to your customers in a cheaper and better way then using a managed service. Here you have control over your own software stack.

Linode has been great for web hosting, database hosting, and general virtual servers. I've appreciated that they haven't tried to be AWS in the past (i.e. API services rather than simple virtual servers), though perhaps that's the way they're heading now and if so, I can't necessarily recommend that since I've only used servers. Great service for virtual servers.

I think Linode is very well suited for businesses that need to operate public-facing servers for services provided to both themselves and/or the public, but either can't afford to, or are unable to, stand up physical servers or a VM farm for virtual servers in a data center.

It's also great when you want to just spin up a dedicated VM for a particular development project, knowing it can be easily torn down when the project is over, or migrated to a production environment.

Speed is fast [and] uptime is awesome in Asia's servers. The best thing about the Linode is its pricing plans, which are very attractive and cheap but still have [the] best service.

Testing and development is a excellent use case for Linode. You can spin up a new Linux machine in under a couple of minutes, deploy and test your application publicly, and then destroy the instance and only pay for the time it was running.

Linode is an amazing system for quickly creating a VM, and then deploying the various tools within that virtual machine. There are lots of flavours that you can install for OSs. It is extremely powerful, affordable, and scalable as you need. I can see this working for many different types of company sizes, and infrastructure needs.

In terms of hosting mail servers there does seem to be issues in terms of their nodes being blacklisted frequently. I don't know if this is common but it would be extremely helpful to provide specific VM space that has a zero tolerance for spamming which would help those of us receive higher rankings.

Has docs for newer users as well as more experienced ones. They also offer a managed plan for those that do not want to deal with anything regarding their hosting - something I will more than likely be transitioning to within the next couple of months. I'd definitely recommend them for any advanced or beginner user.

Very suited to our market, providing definite sized reliable platforms for running industry-standard application services on a Linux platform. We configure the servers to use Linode's offering of the latest kernel, which removed a maintenance task and ensures we have the latest kernel at boot time.

Linode is not really suitable for non-Linux offerings--you can run a Windows VM but it's all down to the user. As the name implies, Linode are very Linux centric.

I find myself comparing them to Stripe - a fairly common service that's been redone right, by and for the types of people who have to actually use the thing every day. Programmers want to automate things and work with the tools they already use and value for their flexibility. Linode provides that low-level access and openness. The community images are also a great value add for rapid prototyping - and you can instantly spin up a nanode for next to nothing and mock it out.

It's definitely not for anyone who's unwilling to engage with the Linux ecosystem. I consider this a feature.

Linode is best suited when you are deploying a solution for a client and the client has no constraints concerning where it is deployed. The place where it is less appropriate is suggesting it to someone who is coming from an AWS background with a lot of buttons and knobs to turn.

Development wise: Very suitable for those using less popular Linux distro. Suitable for testing/staging server.
Organization wise: Very suitable for organization's email/web/application server.
Customer wise: Very suitable to sell your SaaS as dedicated node to customer that may consume unpredictable outbound traffic.
Less suitable for connectivity-critical application especially in development countries (countries that lack of decent network infra).
