QuickBooks Is Great!

We used QuickBooks' Enterprise Solutions as our main accounting platform. It was used for paying bills, entering AR, reconciling bank statements, etc. We used it to produce month end and year end financial statements as well as other Ad-Hoc reports that were needed. The product was not used in other departments across the organization.
  • Managing AR and cutting checks
  • Producing basic financial statements and reports needed to reconcile accounts
  • Bank reconciliations
Cons
  • AR module. Depending how you entered your AR (JE's vs Bills) applying payments can sometimes be difficult
  • Advanced Reporting
QuickBooks is is perfect for simple to moderate sized companies. On occasion, companies with advanced reporting needs or consolidated reporting needs may find QuickBooks to not work well for them. The lack of an import feature makes advanced companies with high amounts of transactions limited in what they can use the product for.

QuickBooks Enterprise - a good choice for many larger businesses.

Quickbooks Enterprise is used for all accounting (tracking receivables, payables, balances, customers, and more). The extensive reporting capability of Enterprise allows me to create many different reports which help me in tracking profitability and how the company is performing. I have used one form of QuickBooks or another over the last 30 years.
  • Report creation. Very flexible and can export data to Excel for further manipulation.
  • Accounts Receivable - self-explanatory.
  • Inventory tracking and assembly creations. Works great and is easy to set up and use.
Cons
  • I would like to see even more flexibility in reports creation.
  • Being able to downgrade data to a smaller platform (i.e. QuickBooks Pro. etc).
Larger companies or if specific solutions are needed (i.e. assemblies from inventory).

I have several clients using Enterprise Solutions, as well as other versions of Quickbooks. It is primarily used by the accounting department.
  • Ability to scan documents and attach for online viewing; this is helpful in analyzing expenses
  • Ability to drill down from reporting to original documents/transaction
  • Ability to make changes easily, but also see the changes with audit trails to assist in tracking those changes for purposed of fraud detection
Cons
  • More flexibility in customized reporting
  • A fixed asset/depreciation schedule that really interfaces seamlessly with the accounting
Enterprise is best used by an organization that needs over 5 users, has budgeting and forecasting needs, and multiple warehousing for inventory tracking.

We use Quickbooks Desktop Enterprise in a few different ways. Firstly we are a multi state, multi entity structure, with a very complex accounting set up. QuickBooks allows to easily manage all our our entities and all of the accounting for them. We also pay all of our vendors through the payment function and pay other vendors through it.
  • Conglomeration of our entites
  • Inter-company transactions
  • Multi Currency
Cons
  • Bill Pay doesn't allow for multiple contracts with the same vendor
QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise allows for 40 users with detailed role based permissions, which allows us to create so many different profiles for all our stakeholders. As a construction company the business specific functions allow us to do costing / progress billing which is so much easier to have on one place. Keeping track of all of our expenses and revenue per project is so important. The reporting and data capabilities is unparalleled and allows us to slice our reports and data in a very usable way.
