Overall Satisfaction with BigCommerce

I've built custom e-commerce sites for almost two decades, so I'm used to advanced features and customization that are hard to get with basic e-commerce providers. I specifically needed international shipping and advanced sales tax features, as well as customization for products with multiple features. I researched several e-commerce providers before finding that BigCommerce fit all my needs. My client uses multiple shipping providers, including USPS, UPS and FedEx. Plus, she needed more advanced tools for sales tax collection, since she ships all over the United States.

Overall, the scalability of BigCommerce has been very good, as my clients are constantly increasing the products they offer as well as the number of customers they serve. I would feel very comfortable recommending BigCommerce for any business that will likely need more advanced features in the future. We have added some new capabilities, and the process has been smooth. Big Commerce also has added some new features that we'll likely add in the future.
Right now, we are not using open APIs, however we have incorporated several existing integrations. They all have been very simple to integrate and use. I would like to see an improved way to add or edit gift certificates. There is a simple integration that works, but since one of my customers also has a brick-and-mortar location, keeping gift certificates updated is always a challenge.
While all of these platforms have their advantages, they couldn't provide the level of international shipping and the multiple shipping options needed by my clients with advanced e-commerce stores. Those two major features were the reason we went with BigCommerce in the first place. And we've been very pleased with our experience so far.

BigCommerce is particularly useful for our clients who have advanced e-commerce needs that aren't easily fulfilled by some of the simpler e-commerce offerings on the market. International shipping is the biggest reason, as well as the ability to integrate multiple shipping providers to enable customers to have a choice at checkout. We've been very pleased with Big Commerce's ability to deal with our complicated shipping requirements for both domestic and international customers.

Using BigCommerce

My clients are typically not super tech savvy, however, they've had no issues learning to use Big Commerce after some hands-on training and experience. The interface is user friendly, and support is available on request. They can easily add new products and fulfill orders, as well as run reports and deal with shipping.

Using BigCommerce

3 - This team uses Big Commerce for order fulfillment, shipping, product updates, adding new products, editing text, customer service, and running reports. While some do specialize in one task, all of them can do everything that is necessary to keep the site up and running, as well as fulfill and ship all orders.
1 - We have one webmaster who manages the administration of the site, as well as any technical issues that arise. This person is also responsible for training team members and answering questions as necessary. We've also used the Big Commerce support team when necessary to answer some technical questions when required.

Evaluating BigCommerce and Competitors

Yes - We originally had a custom site. When it became outdated, we looked at several options -- particularly Shopify, Wix and SquareSpace, among others. We needed improve shipping integration and the ability to sell in international markets. We decided to go with BigCommerce because it enabled easy integration with multiple shipping providers.

The single most important factor was the shipping options and the ease of integration with multiple shipping providers, as well as the ability to choose which types of shipping we offered. Our products are also somewhat complicated, requiring multiple feature selections and (sometimes) customization options. BigCommerce provide all of those options.
I think we would have made the exact same decision for the exact same reason. There really wasn't a better option for our needs, and the other possibilities required us to change the way our business worked or limited us in some functionality. We've been very pleased with our decision.
