We host our Drupal managed website with Acquia. Acquia Cloud makes the maintenance tasks much easier.
  • Always available
  • Automated database backups
  • Support
Cons
  • I'm trying to find ways to make the core and module updates simpler
For all of the reasons I stated earlier but in addition, today I had to open ticket for the first time in a year. The support I received was immediate and while the issue I was having ended up being due to another website, the tech did not just pass me off as not his problem. He gave me actionable information I was able to use with the website that was the actual cause of the issue.

Acquia Cloud Platform helps us to quickly deliver new websites as well as maintain them with ease of use. Operations are easy to grasp as all the administration and operational tasks are "one-click" away. Finally, security is natively embedded in the platform which is a key asset that contributed strongly to the decision process.
  • Security & patch management.
  • Rapid setup of new sites.
  • Drupal compatibility for rich content management.
  • Quick DevOps tasks.
Cons
  • For site studio: being able to combine pixel-perfectness with ease-of-use.
  • Data-driven digital workflows with low-code and BPMN compatibility.
  • Ease of integration with other DevOps tools.
Well suited for rapid development of applications and sites, ease of maintenance, security enhancements, and ease of patching. Drupal for global enterprise content strategy i.e. industrial robustness. DevOps is there but needs to be easier to integrate with other vendors. In my experience, Acquia Digital Experience Platform doesn't support well data-driven process definition, setup, and management from an application standpoint. In production, we expected the production environment to be separated from the non-production environnement, which was only possible at the logical level and not at the network level.

Acquia is the host of our main website. As such, the entire platform is fully managed. This greatly helps to free up resources within internal IT teams, and Acquia support is there to help. When issues arises, opening a critical case with support results in immediate action from the support staff. Support is very responsive and will provide professional level assistance. Their speed to help is greatly appreciated and not something that you will find with all PaaS vendors.
  • Responsive support
  • Professional and helpful responses
  • Feels like a true extension of your internal teams
Cons
  • A bit tough to navigate through online documentation
If you need a provider to host a site for you while providing top notch support, Acquia should be on your list.

NYS Public Safety has chosen Acquia as our vendor of choice to host our Drupal sites. Many more areas of NYS are picking up the Acquia platform as well. Acquia solved a big problem for us in that we didn't have the expertise of hosting Drupal/PHP/MySQL that was required to provide us with world-class Enterprise support. Acquia has been available time and time again to fix our issues, and help us get our content out to the people of New York State. Without Acquia, we'd still be setting up and tuning servers. With Acquia as our partner, we have already shipped multiple sites, with many more in development.
  • Hosting
  • Support
  • Specially tuned environments
Cons
  • Responses from tickets aren't always from the same person, and can vary in effectiveness of solving your problem
  • While documentation is robust, it can be difficult to find exactly what you need
  • Provided forums are not monitored frequently, and are not as useful as they could be
How much money do you have, and how much support do you need?

Those are the biggest questions that you need to ask yourself when determining if you want to procure Acquia services. The cost for us was low compared to paying our own employees to run the type of system provided to us by Acquia. But the cost would be much higher for non-enterprise customers who are just looking to have their sites hosted for them. In the end, you get what you pay for - world-class Drupal hosting backed by highly effective customer support.

It is used by the marketing department and our support organization to host the company's website.
  • Hosts the company's website
  • Allows us to immediately flush caches on-demand, by a non-technical user, as critical content updates are published
  • Able to easily use test, beta, production sites to easily test the new content look and feel before publishing
Cons
  • Using the platform is not for the faint of heart. It takes some understanding of how a back-end system technology works to be able to get anything done or even know where to go.
  • Being able to verify DNS services is not easy to do. A digital market is required to do this with Facebook or Google from time to time but it is hidden from the non-tech user. I need to find a tech expert to do a simple task that is holding up the quality of our digital advertising. This is the way the digital world works and these capabilities need to be exposed and easy to verify by non-tech users quickly without the possibility of disrupting the system.
Complete, efficient, and performs well. Not for the faint of heart non-tech users. It would be good to build access to backend capabilities to quickly reset or verify servers etc. without placing a work order.
