We went with Acrobat since we use the suite from Adobe for the majority of people. We signed up other people with just an Acrobat license so that they could also read the PDFs and annotate. We found other programs had issues with the back and forth, especially cross-platform.

We liked Adobe Acrobat better due to the increased security versus other options. It also works easily with Microsoft and can be set as the default program to open PDFs. While some of the other options we evaluated offered similar interactions with non-Adobe products, Acrobat DC is within the house of Adobe products, which made it easier to maintain the integrity (ex., non-standard font packages) of PDFs and templates created in Illustrator and InDesign.

They have a superior product that works better and more reliably when it comes to working with PDF files. Adobes' Achilles heel is the restrictions and requirements imposed on the user and software by their administrative and legal teams that drag down what otherwise is a wonderful piece of software.

DocuSign has it's perks, for sure. DocuSign is easier to integrate into websites with extensions than Adobe Acrobat is but when it came down to it, we just didn't trust the brand. We felt that using a product with the Adobe name connected with it provided necessary peace of mind for not only our business but also for our clients. People know Adobe.

I have found issues with compatibility, ease of use, and various other small issues, and I found that Adobe Acrobat had a much larger support base, and it was easier to find help in the normal course of my workday.

Every other product out there for secure documents or for sharing files is obscure or irrelevant compared to Adobe Acrobat. I've never used anything else except when I was forced to by a company or by a particular application's limitations (which is rare).

In my experience, Adobe Acrobat offers more advanced features and security safeguards than competitors. It may come at a price, but you feel that you can trust in the brand and the abilities of the platform when compared to competitors. With that in mind, some users may find competitors more beneficial if they do not need as many advanced features or if they are not working with confidential material.

  • Foxit PDF Editor (FoxitPhantom) and DocuSign
Acrobat is overall, the superior PDF creator, editor and compiler. However, DocuSign is easier and more reliable as a document signing program. This tool is Acrobat is much harder to use and has caused some errors in documents in the past. It also does not work well with a document previously generated by DocuSign.

We did not really know about other PDF editor tools available in market - Adobe Acrobat is widely renowned as the market leader and, as such, we didn't really want to pursue or begin to evaluate any alternative options that our teams might use. As we use Marketo we are already Adobe customers and familiar with all their tools.

These free PDF tools do not have anywhere near as many features as Adobe Acrobat. For a free tool they are ok if you have no other options, but if you've ever used Adobe Acrobat you will know that tools like CutePDF feel like they were made by a child. In my opinion, they are clunky and basic.

I prefer Adobe Acrobat to Bluebeam because it has the functionality that I need and because I use so many other Adobe products, it's an easy transition for me. Bluebeam is much more cumbersome and really just has more construction-focused functionality that I don't need on a regular basis. Plus, so many others use Adobe Acrobat, so it's easy to help walk through others what they need to do.

I used PDF Architect for a short time but I do not believe I had the full version, so it did not offer the same features as Adobe Acrobat and I was not able to combine documents. I did not find it as user friendly as Adobe Acrobat (probably because I had only ever used Adobe Acrobat before), so I asked to purchase Adobe Acrobat rather than the full version of Architect.

Zoom does not have a video editor.
Canva has great marketing and social media production ability, but it is not as flexible as Adobe Acrobat. Canva has ready made templates that Adobe Acrobat does not have which make it really accessible, but it does not have the video editing abilities of Adobe Acrobat.
Publisher has some added flexibility but not at all the extent of features as Adobe Acrobat.

The pricing structure is not as great with DocuSign than with Adobe Acrobat. It would be nice if the entire company could use Adobe Acrobat rather than everyone having different platforms. It would also be nice to have an account that multiple users can use without paying so much and requiring separate logins.

I prefer the Kofax suite of products with intuitive interfaces, 80-90% of the functionality of Adobe Acrobat, a one-time purchase fee, discounted upgrades and system integration, and no reports of collaborators to open, use, edit or navigate PDFs. Kofax has been my choice for approximately 6 years, and Adobe Acrobat is just a secondary resource in my office. Basically I get most of the benefits of Adobe Acrobat with a fraction of the cost.

For now, I use Adobe CC so it's part of that package for me. I have not really had any reason to look at other platforms all that much. I know that Microsoft Office has its own version of a PDF publisher that seems to work very similarly to Adobe. Other than these I am not really aware of the others.

Acrobat is a much more robust app that Preview. Preview is simple and does not have the same about of tools and features that Acrobat has. Acrobat integrates with Adobes other Adobe Apps which makes it very powerful and robust. The cloud features of Acrobat make it a better tool to use with teams.

  • Foxit PDF Editor (FoxitPhantom)
Foxit PDF is a strong competitor to Adobe Acrobat. However, users coming from older editions of Adobe don't like too much change and will want to stay with Adobe instead of changing to a new competing product. We did evaluate Foxit, but end users couldn't or didn't have the patience to grasp the tools and functionality of the application and wanted to just use Adobe.
