What is Ascentis (discontinued)?

Ascentis was an a-la carte full suite workforce management (WFM) technology platform and human capital solutions. Ascentis WFM provided time and attendance solutions that provided clients with scheduling, compliance, complex calculations, and time collection options. The HCM suite, included a fully a-la carte solution.

Ascentis was acquired by UKG in March of 2022. The service will be discontinued.

We implemented Ascentis Payroll to be used by our department, with Employee Self-Service capabilities for all employees. 99% of the employees (1,000+ employees) had direct deposit, so we were virtually paperless for payroll checks. Employee reimbursements were paid via payroll as well. We interfaced HRIS and Time from in-house SAP. We received unsolicited, positive comments from employees complimenting the new system after our conversion in 2010. Ascentis Payroll solved our prior issues with a payroll vendor that was not customer service oriented and their system was not keeping up with our payroll and employee needs.
  • Customer Service is #1. The consistent: turn-around time, accuracy, and abilities of the client representatives is impressive.
  • Ascentis listens to their customers' needs. One of our requests during implementation was rolled out to all clients around the time we went live. Another change we wanted to ESS was implemented overnight for a customer-wide roll-out. Their User Conference in 2013 was most worth-while.
  • The Ascentis Payroll System increased the efficiency of our department. We also increased the satisfaction of our employees and IT Department!
  • The Ascentis Third Party Check system streamlined garnishment deduction accuracy, reporting and payments. (This was one of our RFP points that only Ascentis could accommodate in the fashion desired.)
  • System Import/Export capabilities are very strong and user-friendly. Able to quickly turn-around bonus payrolls, incentive payrolls, adjustment checks for grossing up gift cards, Third Party Sick entries, etc.
Cons
  • There were some minor "nice to haves" that Ascentis could incorporate into their system for users. Most of these suggestions are being included in their upcoming release of Ascentis Payroll. (So minor, I can't even remember what we suggested.)
  • We ran into only one unique multiple garnishment scenario that required us manually review the one employee. (Very minor, compared to prior vendor system calculations.)
- Dream big - ask for all system features you've dreamed about. You might be surprised what Ascentis Payroll can do for you.
- The system is user-friendly and has features to make payroll departments more efficient. (i.e. Garnishment/Third Party Check module)
- Ascentis interfaces with our in-house systems was seamless (HRIS, Time, GL, etc.). Exports to third party vendors easy as well (401(k), FSA, etc.)
- If you will be utilizing Ascentis for multiple modules, then understand via system demonstration how the modules work together (i.e. HRIS, Time, Payroll). Ensure there are no gaps or additional considerations to address during assessment/implementation phases.

We use Ascentis for HR, Payroll, Benefits, Performance, and Recruiting. It addresses all HR functions that we need to perform on a day to day basis.
  • They have a lot of trainings to help with support of their products.
  • They give a point person to go to for help with the different products.
  • Customer service reps are always friendly and try to solve whatever questions arise.
Cons
  • Would be nice if products could be more company-specific and not generalized to everyone
  • Sometimes it takes a long time to get an answer to a technical question with the software.
Ascentis has all the capabilities and functionality to complete all HR-related functions for any business. I do not see any reason why it would not be useful or helpful if looking for HR modules.

We have several facilities with HR and payroll needs. Our former program limited the use between the facility and our corporate office and continually went down due to the amount of data we were pushing thru it. With Ascentis the support staff at their location not only made the transition from our old program to the new (Ascentis HR/Payroll) easy but very efficient as well. The support staff usually have answers and "fixes" immediately and if it's not immediate it's always within the day. With more training in the reporting programs in both HR and payroll, ad-hoc reporting has been amazing!
  • Reporting requirements are easier met thru both HR and Payroll reports
  • HR feeds the payroll system all changes immediately and very smooth (rarely is a change missed and never on the system side)
  • There are ZERO duplicated social security number issues using HR!
  • Keeping the history of employees thru the HR system is very easy!
Cons
  • Would love to see a report generator that can pull the history for employee rehires and terminations along with the dates.
  • Easier understanding of how to create a report even with using the report wizard. Maybe more training suggestions.
  • A benefits only status date (rather than having to use the ones in the employment screen.
I've used many payroll/HR software programs. The ease of using Ascentis has made a lot more things possible. Creating and generating custom reports could be a little easier but once you get the hang of it you can literally create exact custom reports within a few minutes. I didn't receive the formal training from Ascentis and learning it on my own truly wasn't hard. Other programs are cumbersome where Ascentis is streamlined reporting and the database is easy to navigate in. Using it for several satellite offices has made our whole payroll and HR system much easier, correct and functional for both the corporate office and our outer lying offices. I'm still trying to figure out the reporting system (as in how to can reports for future use) in HR. If that could be a bit easier to figure out, would help. I have the Payroll Insta [which is] pretty good and love the way we can publish across the board for all our facilities use. Having this in HR would be a nice feature as well. AND if it's already there to know how to use it.

Ascents is being used throughout the entire agency. We have the HR/benefits, payroll/timekeeper/ modules, and recently implemented the performance module. Ascentis has made our organization more paperless and efficient in our processes. The Ascentis Support team has been great and always willing to help when needed.
  • Ascentis has a great tracking system when it comes down to attendance.
  • It also offers ACA reporting of 1095 annually.
  • The performance module offers a self assessment option.
Cons
  • Be more up to speed with implementing changes based on pandemic needs and law changes.
  • Retro pay where the system automatically calculates that for you.
  • h]Have more features available like other HRIS systems.
I would recommend Ascentis to anyone that is looking for a one-shot deal of systems. They do have the entire package for HR to payroll. Customer service is great and all of the implementation reps are very knowledgeable.

Ascentis is a good HRIs and Payroll solution for our Org!!!

  • Optimize the recruiting module to have more streamline and efficient processes implemented.
  • Running reports to be more user friendly
  • Implement an HR Sandbox
Ascentis seems to work well for our workforce size which is usually between 450-600. I am not sure if Ascentis would have the functionalities and capacity for much larger company sizes.
