The number of built-in layouts. There have been times when the marketing needed quick implementation of content and we were able to produce it quickly.

The only issue I've really come across is certain plugins don't always work as intended and require additional customization.

  • It does have bloat for what we are using it for. However, we are in the process of expanding our content to utilize all the features.
Was not there for the initial release.
It is much more intuitive and easily customizable.

We were having a problem with content not going to the trashcan when removed. The support staff had a call with me, and I was able to duplicate the issue. He then escalated the problem to the development staff.

We are using to revamp/rebrand our external-facing .org site.
Business problems: outdated look/functionality, less responsive to mobile needs
Scope of use: wholesale change/redo on entire site. It is a massive undertaking.
Future state: we will be using to redo our intranet site (only visible to employee)
  • Rapid changes
  • Ease of use with content blocks
  • Easy to learn/implement
  • Optimizely Academy classes were outstanding
  • Faster time to preview changes
  • An onscreen indicator of any changes ... for example: I accidently click in a body of text and accidentally create a type or unintended deletion.
Well-suited: it is easy to use. Perhaps have a "kickoff in a box" kit for teams implementing it for the first time ... basically use your experience and superior product knowledge to ease our (the customer) learning curve.

Less appropriate: cant really think of any other than our own internal "who can do what" permission levels

  • too early to see right now, we just launched 20ish days ago
  • Developers are reporting no major problems/bugs so far
It is mostly seamless across all use cases so far. No major issues, which is a relief.
This has been a slow rollout. We are a large organization that recently acquired another healthcare system, which upped our headcount by nearly 25%. There are multiple efforts going on at the same time, which leads to a "build the plane as we fly it" feeling ... real or not.
Better overhaul applicability to our business. As a relative newcomer to the healthcare industry, it has been a steeper than expected learning curve for me. I can't say it enough ... Optimizely makes it easy to do the work. The hardest portion of the changeover has been the work to nail down the processes, procedures, ownership levels, permissions ("only my team can do xyz..."), and general fatigue from change.
  • Online Training
Answered in a previous sections (sorry!) ... the Academy was great. The in-person virtual training was outstanding.
I attended multiple trainings/tutorials early in the process. The vendor-supplied content about Optimizely was engaging for users/attendees (I often analyze training content, compliance programs, governance plans), which helps our OCM people by having good "word of mouth" about the product long before a rollout ever happens. I actually when the user-focused portion of the Optimizely Academy twice in 2022 to ensure I had a grasp on operability and to be able to support the training and OCM efforts.
Sorry cannot recall ... but I don't think we did.
No
We brought in an external training team for end users. The end users did all the Academy courses, then attended virtual sessions. This vendor team (not 100% sure if Optimizely employees, or just consultants) was great. The did initial training, but then turned the sessions to troubleshooting, FAQs, and end user support. Basically a user could show up and say "I have a problem while doing xyz in Optimizely, how do we ..."

We maintain around a dozen different brand websites, all offering different job positions in the Healthcare industry. Optimizely helps us to deliver a different set of content and ways to apply using a code base, which helps a lot in terms of creating content new features that can be used across different business lines. We also use Optimizely to create content that gets delivered to our mobile application using their Content Delivery API, which can also be personalized according to the User preferences and needs.
  • A centralized UI to maintain multiple websites using a common entry point.
  • Page types and blocks that can be highly customized using .NET code, but at the same time allows checks and validations when being created by Marketing/Content Users.
  • A very good set of extra libraries/add-ons that allows to expand website functionality in a very short period of time (Content APIs, Personalization, A/B Testing, Social)
  • The Admin CMS UI can be faster and be better organized. It does feel like left behind when compared to the Content Management UI.
  • Page and Blocks Previews can be a tad hard to render properly when Content is complex.
  • We use a lot of ReactJS in our Blocks, that can be challenging to integrate properly in the Content Management UI.
Our choice to migrate all our websites to Optimizely was based largely on their MVC .NET architecture that allowed us to create many reusable templates for multiple sites at once. Our main goal was to simplify delivery and code maintenance: we went from needing hours to deploy changes affecting all our sites, to only need 20 minutes.

Optimizely is good for complex solutions, where a lot of customization is needed on a website or web application (i.e. several block types/controls that need to be reusable and customized). For a simple brochure website, with a few dynamic pages, this can be an overkill solution.

  • Since having a single code base, now we have less bugs than ever when deploying new features.
  • A very clean API integration (with very little extra code needed) to expose/manage Content for our Mobile Application.
  • The CMS Content Management is quite fast to response and easy to work with. Our internal end Users are quite happy with the CMS Content Management tools.
We use their Content Delivery API to expose content to our Mobile Application. This way we can deploy new Content real time to Mobile Users with no IT interaction.

Optimizely Forms are a great tool to collect information that then can submitted to multiple sources. We have several forms connected to different CRMs and internal systems. Those forms allow updates with little effort once created.
We can share Content in a simple way, and we can offer a more customized experience using Optimizely products in faster way.
Because there was a need to have a single code base for multiple sites, we spend around 3 months designing all initial features to be shared. We also have a lot of front end functionality to be implemented, like a full job search feature and forms submitting data to different end points. Then it took us around 5 more months to develop all these features. We got our first site in about 8 months, but then subsequent websites were able to be down in 45 days. Last ones we were able to get them out in less than a month.
Their support is fast and efficient. They are always available and ready to provide information when requested.
I'm not sure about this. I know we have quite good support from them.
No
We were having performance issues one time, and they spend the time analyzing logs and profiler results several times, until the culprit was found and we were able to develop a fix thanks to their guidance. The issue took several days and they were always fast to respond during this situation.

It help us to to manage our site in a good way. I love the interface and is relatively fast after it loads the first time. That first load is the thing I don't like. I think is a good tool overall and the CMS is very powerful. Sometimes, I'm amazed of how simple some configuration can be made.
  • Easy interface
  • Fast after the first load
  • Customizable
  • Speed the first time it loads
  • Some options are difficult to find.
It does the job nicely. It requires training at the beginning, but if you get used to it you know is powerful. I drop one point only for speed the first time you run locally. After that, it works as expected and personally I don't have any complain besides that statement.

  • We can manage our website in a simple way
  • My only complain is speed every time you build locally. Besides that, is an excellent tool.
  • I think it has help on the ROI but I don't make that decision.
Is not difficult, but requires training as any other software in the market. I started from scratch and I was able to adapt. There are a lot of functionalities I don't know yet. I still learning every day and getting trainings to be better at it and use the most I can.
I was not at the implementation even if I was involved on the research initially. What I can tell is that I can setup a test environment easily when I need it. So, I think depending of your business it can be more complicated to get it running as any other tool.

The Ektron CMS is utilized by Allegheny County, Pennsylvania for the entirety of its website. Beyond just the County IT Department, multiple departments (such as the Department of Human Services) utilize the CMS to update and manage their content on a daily basis. Without it, it would be extremely difficult for the County to provide our constituents with timely, relevant information.
  • Responsive web design (version 9.0)
  • Design customization
  • Content management (uploading, editing, approval process, etc.)
  • Fabulous customer support
  • Have the "Desktop" tab of the CMS function more like a dashboard than an information center, giving each user a customized and efficient user experience.
  • The ability to delete multiple files or images at the same time versus individually.
  • The ability to further organize or flag a file (such as with a color, icon, etc.) within folders, in order to make it simple for another use to locate.
The Ektron CMS is a heavy-duty system that can be successfully utilized in numerous situations. If you need a small-scale CMS, then Ektron may be overkill. But if you organization is medium to large scale, then Ektron would definitely fit the bill. The CMS's functionality offers everything you could possibly need. (And if it doesn't, Ektron is great about working with you to develop a solution.) In addition, Ektron consistently stays atop industry trends and technical advancements. So you can assured that purchasing their platform is an investment - not simply a purchase.
  • Being a government entity, our primary objective is to provide constituents with relative and timely information from numerous departments. Ektron's CMS has allowed us to do so in an organized, efficient, and timely manner.
  • By upgrading to version 9.0 in our re-design phase, we will be able to provide our site visitors with a responsive website to better serve them.
  • Being simple to use, the Ektron CMS allows us to train individuals (who are not necessarily tech-savvy) to update content on behalf of their departments.
Amazing customer support; the company stays atop industry changes; the platform is very user-friendly; covers a huge range of functionality.

Absolutely!
Working with Ektron Support has always been a pleasure. They are quick to respond, extremely knowledgeable, and truly care about resolving your issue. I have never once been disappointed with their response.
  • Updating, managing, and editing content
  • Design customization (i.e. with CSS, etc.)
  • Widget implementation
  • Deleting multiple files or images at once (versus separately)
As both a manager of CMS content as well as a designer, I find the CMS to be intuitive and easy to understand. (They also have great documentation and customer support if you need it.) Between the platform's functionality and Ektron's technical support, I use the CMS with confidence on a daily basis.
