Overall Satisfaction with PagerDuty

PagerDuty is being used company-wide to reduce MTTR and allow cross-functional teams to have an easy way to escalate to each other.
  • Scheduling
  • Escalation
  • Integrations
  • Permissions are flexible if implemented correctly, but can be cumbersome to set up for large groups of people.
  • Reduce overtime costs by allowing rotating schedules
  • With good monitoring, it allows for a proactive approach to outages, which can save money by reducing or avoiding downtime.
We have seen minor issues such as notification delay once or twice in the past few years, but nothing major.
We have used many of the monitoring tool integrations (such as Splunk and Dynatrace) as well as the generic API integrations that we use for custom tools that we have built.
Most of our escalation policies trigger the next level every 5 minutes. We also utilize response plays, which can trigger additional escalation policies and notify stakeholders without impeding the primary escalation policy.
The Incident Analysis charts are a good starting point for most teams. More info can be had by purchasing a higher tier or retrieving data from the API and utilizing a BI tool to interpret it.
While more costly than the competitors, PagerDuty has more functionality and is the better tool. There are more integrations, the UI is cleaner, and there are more features and options.
I have not had to contact support yet, but the documentation (including the API reference) is very good. Also, our account manager is very responsive and helpful.

PagerDuty is great for escalating to the people that need to fix an issue. It is a little pricey for users that just need to receive an FYI when there is an issue.
