If you have an existing CRM system, like Microsoft 365, you can integrate campaign automation with Act-On, and then it is worth most of the time it takes to get less-experienced employees on-boarded. In other cases that require more minimal use, the on-boarding may be too lengthy. In that case, it may be better-suited to choose a different SaaS that tracks campaign, ROI, lead scoring, etc.

Mad Mimi is great for someone who wants a very simple user interface for sending out basic, yet professional, emails. Perfect for the beginning business owner. It's full-featured, yet easy to use. It's free for a good number of contacts. There are free and low-cost features that enhance the functionality. Plus, when you go beyond the free plan, it's one of the lowest cost pro plans around. On the downside, there are other email tools that are more sophisticated with built-in templates.

  • Digital marketing campaign integrations, like Google Adwords, email tracking, other tools that track audiences, and website integrations like WordPress or Square Space.
  • The customer support, from what I've heard, is very good.
  • Integrations with other CRM systems make this really easy to add to a company's workflow.

  • Super agile system lets us do a lot of testing without a lot of extra work.

Cons

  • The available reports are quite static, so there is not much you can change. However I do know that this is a function that is more advanced if you go up to the Enterprise version.
  • The alerts to sales people could be developed further, at the moment they are mainly based on demographic's of the visitor but I would like to be able to connect them to lists as well.
  • The calendar provides a good overview of what has been done, but to fully optimize it I would like to be able to add planned activities. This would give the team a better possibility to plan and coordinate.

  • Free version was too limited in the size of the mail list it supported.
  • Free version was too limited in the number of images that could be stored in the image library.
  • At the time I was last using it, they did not have a full-featured link to enable people to sign up for different mail lists, or different profile indicators for a single mail list (such as field of interest, or location).

I no longer have any use for email service providers in general. But, if I did, I would be very likely to continue using Mad Mimi. While it may lack in learning material, its deliverablity capabilities alone are reason enough to keep using them. Also, if you're well versed in email marketing, or the technical aspects of it at least, the learning material is not of much use. I still think very highly of them, and the people they have working there.

I had a question about tracking our emails in CRM. I sent a few and then noticed they were not in the history. We have to keep everything centralized in that system and I was scared I wouldn't be able to leverage Act-On the way I wanted to. I sent in a support ticket, received the first response within 20 minutes, and had my answer within the hour!

Act-On had a lot of resources, and their staff was great at answering any questions I had to make sure we got started on the right foot. Looking back, I would have preferred some additional training sessions since we didn't have any previous experience with Marketing Automation and best practices.

Alternatives Considered

The cost of ownership vs. functionality and ease of use is second to none, add in the speed of implementation and their customer success programs and nothing comes close.
