Having the Broadvoice B-system came thru for us when the internet went down at our location. We were able to login into the Broadvoice systems from our phones and forward all calls to our cell phones. This allowed our contact with our customers to go interrupted. This is seen as a great advantage to our company so we could continue business and keep our customers happy.

Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams is a great communication and planning tool that is easy to implement across broad groups both internally and with outside participants. When fully implemented, Microsoft Teams can be a great efficiency aid and can promote more frequent communication both with internal groups and with teams comprised of inside members as well as outside vendors and consultants.

Pros

Broadvoice

  • The ease of call transfer.
  • Ability to have calls forwarded through the b-hive app keeps people from being tied to their desk phone.
  • Great customer service.
  • Integration with Salesforce.

Microsoft Teams

  • Video calls are great with Microsoft Teams. They've made big improvements over the last year and I rarely have issue with getting on. It's nice when things just work.
  • The most used functionality is, of course, the chat feature. It does what it's supposed to do and you can create chat groups from whoever you'd like. We use it a lot when there is a special project and a team from various groups get together for a short period of time to get things done.
  • An overlooked function is the ability to search anything within Microsoft Teams. Any photo, document, or chat can be searched and found pretty easily. I can't tell you how many times this has saved me from having to rewrite something or start over.

Cons

Broadvoice

  • Make B-Hive easer to navigate.
  • Faxing features could use more work.
  • Improve network through the phone. Have issues when the phone has problems; the computer can't connect to the network when it's going through it.

Microsoft Teams

  • File Storage is a little clunky for new users, there was a learning curve in understanding the difference between Channels, Teams, Files, and where to communicate. The UI could be improved.
  • The connection of the file storage with Sharepoint gets tricky, where if we edit a certain file in one location, either it sometimes mirrors the action on the other platform, but sometimes it doesn't. It created a lot of issues.

Microsoft Teams is included with our Office 365 subscription and we have no intention of migrating off of Office 365 and Microsoft products. Since Microsoft Teams is included for free with our Office 365 subscription, and since we enjoy all the features, benefits, and functionality, there is no question that our team will continue to use the product

At first, it seemed "daunting" to use but that is very much the same with a lot of things that are new. Broadvoice supplies great Quick Sheets to main topics, such as Feature Codes, Flow Charts, User Guides, which are easy to read and follow. Once it is used often, it is easy to understand, follow, and make changes to fit your company

While the overall offer of Microsoft Teams is compelling, the whole organisation and UI has quite some confusing edges. There is a mixture of desktop apps, web apps and web apps displayed inside the desktop apps. Moreover, the CPU usage of some of the Microsoft Teams components are dreadful (e.g., OneDrive for Business is the highest CPU-consumer, even above 3D and video software). Somehow, the mixture of development approaches does not provide a really coherent view. As Microsoft Teams also incorporates the Planner, OneDrive, OneNote and Sharepoint toolsets, it doen't help that they all have different interfaces and that navigation between them is confusing. Files in OneDrive, versus Sharepoint online versus files inside a team files folder seem to be disjunct. Opening a Word file from the locally synced OneDrive does not present the same syncing experience as opening the same file via Microsoft Teams into the Desktop app. And occasional sync problems don't help either. That said, collaboratively editing MS Office files has improved a lot and is (almost) comparable to collaboratively editing Google documents. Almost.

Microsoft customer support is great, although it can be a bit of a hassle getting to a representative. Also, I have not had issues with Teams to have to give Microsoft a call, so that is positive! Microsoft also has great knowledge-based articles for information on tasks and how-tos on Teams.

Alternatives Considered

This has really been our first experience using an app such as b-hive organization-wide for our phone system, so I don't have much to stack up against it. I just really appreciate the ease of using our original phone system via this app without having to go to some other product/service.

Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams are very straightforward, user-friendly and so easy to use. What's good about using this is that we don't need to have any training, just have an account and everyone can easily navigate and explore the features. It's very secure which helps us to share important files with each other. Calling and chatting have never been easy.

Return on Investment

Broadvoice

  • The cost per user is less than our previous provider.
  • The flexibility that VOIP provides allows for easy in opening different locations and staying connected.
  • Integration with Salesforce will be a huge step forward for our current CRM.

Microsoft Teams

  • I think it has allowed us to leverage our Office365 more effectivly since all of the apps are synced together.
  • It has really allowed us transition away from more formal webex meetings and have a more free flow conversation.
  • It also gives us a more direct line to our manager if we need there input they can easily join our team chat.
