Likelihood to Recommend

TeamViewer

Teamviewer is best suited for any team who can afford their commercial licensing costs and have a good enough bandwidth to support its connection for a seamless work experience. It could be a bit pocket heavy for small team sizes where budget is stringent and if budget is a problem, then one should look at other cheaper options

Zoom

Great use case: If you hold multiple meetings (5+) every week with people that you can’t easily meet in person (e.g. if you do a lot of business over the phone), Zoom is worth the price.
Great use case: If you regularly do presentations (slide decks, videos, pitches) over the phone or video call, Zoom makes this process very simple (screen-sharing, whiteboarding, chatting).
Great use case: If you expect people to either call in or join by a computer in the same meeting, Zoom makes it really easy to combine people joining by phone and computer.
Bad use case: If you only do a few phone or video calls a week, you’d probably be okay with a free solution like Google Hangouts (not worth paying for the additional Zoom features).
Bad use case: If you have to share lots of files back and forth throughout a meeting, I prefer using a third-party solution WHILE I’m on the Zoom call (i.e. I will share files via Slack or email while I’m on Zoom, rather than use Zoom’s file share feature).

Pros

TeamViewer

  • The software itself is a powerful support and control tool, extremely easy to install, configure and use, so with a minimum induction, practically any user with internet service and the respective access permits, can connect from their house with the office server.
  • Not only allowed access to people who were in remote locations with the server of the central office, but also constituted an additional way to offer technical assistance to these people, in case they require it, being constituted together with the use of the whataspp tool is fundamental to the daily life of some of our workers who normally do field work.

Zoom

  • I’ve tried many different video call products (Google Hangouts, Appear.in, Uber Conference), and Zoom has been significantly higher-quality and more reliable. I very rarely have a call drop or have trouble with hearing people on Zoom calls.
  • Zoom has recently released a Chrome extension, which is a super convenient way to quickly start and schedule meetings. I enjoyed Appear.in for this reason, but the quality was too low. This is valuable for me as a project manager - I am able to quickly schedule Zoom meetings without leaving my current workflow (i.e. I can stay in Google Drive, Hubspot, Google Calendar, Gmail, or wherever else I am working and easily schedule a Zoom call).
  • Zoom’s “breakout room” feature is hugely valuable for the interactive client workshops we run. You can easily split multiple users into separate breakout rooms, then easily re-combine all participants back together in real time. I use this feature to facilitate design thinking workshops.
  • I use Zoom’s “copy the invitation” feature many times a day – I have very rarely had people I’m connecting with have any trouble joining the call, because the invitation has all of the information they need to easily connect, regardless of whether they are connecting by computer or by phone.

Cons

TeamViewer

  • - A difficulty that we have experienced in the company and that has been detected with each stumble that has been had, is the fact that the different versions are not compatible with each other, so if some user accidentally updates his version (very normal fact ), compatibility problems are generated that have caused our support department to have to communicate with each user who is under that condition to ask him to delete the new version, and then reinstall the correct version.
  • Although it really does not have to be a limitation, the software does not have the functionality to work through proxy servers, which could become a limiting factor of some relevance for those who want to take care of "their presence" when working in an open network.

  • We've had no issues so far. The few helpdesk tickets we've had have been on our end or have been a need for a bit of user training.

Everything is easy to understand and use, new users need no training. On the flipside there are minor annoyances such as calendar export being cumbersome (need re-auth every time) and also not having recordings shared within a team or forcing people to name them.

Zoom has among the best performance of any video conference platform, as I've mentioned several times. Besides that, their Chat platform works great, and their back end always runs smooth. It's unfortunate that reporting can now only be done by one month at a time, but nonetheless, it only takes a second to run any kind of Zoom report, whether it's an attendee report, Poll results, a user report, a list of meetings from the past month, etc.

In-Person Training

TeamViewer

TeamViewer 5.0

I gave this a 5 rating as I'm thinking that is as close to neutral as I can get. I have never used the in-person training but to complete this review I need to answer this question. As I already answered I learned the software on my own without the help of any resources at TeamViewer.

I have never used the online training either. I have watched a few informational videos that were helpful when learning how to do a specific procedure within TeamViewer and get the most out of the software by utilizing one of the many features that are available with the software. Again, 5 if for neutral.

Alternatives Considered

TeamViewer

Teamviewer is the easiest solution when needing to talk a user through helping an IT professional get remote access to their computers. Most other programs have many more steps and complicated passwords that need to be shared before you can log in and help someone remotely. Teamviewer gives users an easy and quick install process and then provides them with clear ID number and passcode to share with a remote support professional to help them get connected quickly and help out.

Zoom

We selected Zoom mostly because of cost and reliability. We liked the features that Zoom provided, we thought it was the easiest interface for ourselves as well as first-time users who have ever used a screen sharing service to be comfortable with. We also liked how we can schedule meetings easily and send a simple link for a meeting invite that helps to start the meeting much faster instead of troubleshooting a call to getting everything started.

Because the Basic licenses are completely free, and because it's very easy to configure and install Zoom, and because anyone can join Zoom from a link without needing an account, scaling is a Breeze. There are absolutely no roadblocks. My company keeps adding more Zoom Pro license every week since it's so in demand. We were able to convert users from several different platforms onto Zoom with no trouble at all.

Return on Investment

TeamViewer

  • We have gotten our money's worth form Team Viewer. It is used daily and our clients have given us nothing but positive feedback on it.

Zoom

  • More professional - If your conferencing software works on sales calls it just makes everything go more smoothly
  • Time savings - Saves time in scheduling as well as executing calls. No one has to fumble to make it work, which wastes call time. With other solutions we may lose 10 minutes of a 30 minute call while people make the software work
  • Call review - Now we have saved and named recordings of all of our calls to review when needed, hosted in the cloud.
