What is Coveo Qubit?

Coveo Qubit (acquired October 2021) uses rich visitor data to understand different user segments and serve personalized messages to audience segments using JavaScript. It is available on either a managed or self-service model.

Data is collected using Qubit’s own QProtocol data layer, or by integrating the user’s existing model via our API. Quantitative visitor behavioral data is combined with qualitative visitor feedback and ingested data from Qubit users' other systems of record enabling them to identify areas of the site and customer groups to optimize and target with personalization experiences.

Using JavaScript means that changes do not have to be hard-coded into the site, giving marketers and ecommerce teams greater power to implement changes outside of the development cycle.

Users can A/B test any changes to their site using Qubit, and the user interface lets them know what the test results are.

Qubit is a versatile software platform that is widely used by various departments within organizations to enhance their websites and optimize user experiences. One key use case of Qubit is its ability to facilitate A/B testing, allowing users to create and implement tests to drive conversion rate improvements. With Qubit, marketing teams can quickly make changes to websites without requiring CMS changes or extensive development work. This flexibility enables them to test different designs and content variations in real-time, measure the impact of these changes, and make informed decisions on website optimization.

Another important use case of Qubit is its capability to collect and analyze large quantities of data to drive personalization based on customers' previous website and transactional behavior. By leveraging this data, Qubit empowers organizations to deliver targeted experiences and offers to specific customer segments, enhancing engagement and driving conversions. This level of personalization is seen as a key advantage of Qubit over other A/B testing and personalization software available in the market.

Furthermore, Qubit's attribution tool through OpenTag plays a crucial role in understanding visitor journeys and making informed decisions on marketing spend. It provides valuable insights into how customers interact with the website, helping organizations allocate resources effectively for maximum impact. Additionally, Qubit's frequent upgrades offer new opportunities for increasing conversion rates and improving customer engagement.

Overall, users rely on Qubit for a range of use cases including A/B testing, personalization, data-driven decision making, content delivery, measuring the impact of changes, and understanding customers' preferences and behaviors. Its versatility makes it an essential tool for marketing teams, IT departments, web designers, and customer service professionals looking to optimize user journeys, test hypotheses, implement rapid changes, and ultimately improve overall conversion rates.

Versatile tool: Users have found Qubit to be a versatile tool that allows them to build literally anything, making it a valuable asset for non-technical team members. Multiple reviewers mentioned this.

Excellent account management and customer support: The account management and customer support provided by Qubit were highly praised by users. They mentioned that they had never experienced such good account management before and found the team's support particularly helpful in areas like data preparation for strategic review, growth hacking project management, and A/B testing. Multiple reviewers mentioned this.

Valuable feedback collection: Users highly appreciated the feedback box feature in Qubit as it gathers information on all parts of the business. Feedback is given to relevant departments such as merchandising and product development, leading to the introduction of new products or additional sizes based on customer feedback. Multiple reviewers mentioned this.

Difficult User Interface: Many users have found the user interface of Qubit to be difficult to navigate, making tasks feel clunky and impeding their ability to report on tests effectively.

Lack of Data Visualization Features: A number of users have expressed a desire for more robust data visualization capabilities within Qubit. They suggest that additional features or panels could greatly enhance the overall user experience by providing better insights into their data.

Compatibility Issues with Web Browsers: Some users have reported encountering bugs when using certain web browsers with Qubit. This has caused frustration as it disrupts their workflow and creates obstacles in setting up experiences within the tool.

We use Qubit across our B2C ecommerce activities and touchpoints. Basically, we chose Qubit to accelerate on the following topics : - analyzing our audience - deilver new dashboards - personalize the experience (products / messages) - improve KPIs with A/B testing campaigns - integrate surveys & visitor opinions to the above.
  • Fast & easy implementation
  • 360 solution (tracking / analytics & dashboarding / personalization / A/B testing)
  • Personalization based on data flows (no recommendation blackbox)
  • Integrate external data (CRM, retail) to dashboards, personalization triggers
  • Real-time (I mean real) view of activity
Qubit is well suited for all companies who want to : - activate data to boost KPIs - accelerate on their ecommerce activity - no matter the size of the company. - avoid a long, technical integration project with different solutions - avoid discrepancy in KPIs along [analytics, personalisation, A/B testing] - avoid to have multiple tools that do not communicate properly - save money by replacing 5 pices of software by 1

Qubit helps us get a personalized experience and A/B and MV test our ideas on different markets and different segments. The complexity of L'Occitane is obviously to handle so many market differences and consumers’ behaviors, and Qubit enables us to do it the right way.
  • Account managers and strategists reactivity - Qubit has obviously hired talented people that quickly understand the different issues, brands' complexities and are very understanding when it comes to last minute requests or changes.
  • Qubit's team provides a lot of ideas, and helps us refine our own ideas, based on their experience, and what has proven to be efficient etc.
  • Give more felxibility on advanced mode tests to enable our teams to do it on their own sometimes, without having Qubit engineers build them for us.
  • Have quick pre-defined reports to extract from the delivery platform when needed.

We use Qubit for website conversion optimisation. We use their testing tool to apply A/B tests, personalisation and analyse visitor opinions.
  • The account management is amazing. They are always available and remember the smallest of details about us, even though they have lots of accounts to manage.
  • Their recent Future of Travel conference was industry leading and amazing to attend. They know our industry.
  • They continue to drive forward, rather than focus on past successes and get stuck in a status quo.
  • The testing tool requires a lot more code knowledge than some competitor tools. Most tests have quickly become advanced.
  • We have now organised better training to address the above but I'd have preferred if this had happened when we started to work with them.
We have a few websites that are non-transactional and therefore haven't integrated Qubit as we are still struggling with the call tracking of tests (without another tool integration).

Qubit is currently being implemented in our sister company on a B2C website and we are exploring using it on our B2B site. Our eCommerce and IT business units are working closely together to research the best way to implement Qubit. We anticipate it being in production by the end of the year.
  • Qubit has a response pre-sales and support team. The've been present and helpful throughout the process.
  • Qubit has a great technology that is simple to implement. It also affords great flexibility, you can make it as verbose or terse as you want.
  • We have run into some performance issues implementing opentag, but we're receiving good support to resolve these issues.
Qubit looks to be excellent in the space of A/B testing. We are exploring this features as well as its analytics package to see if we can simplify our site's reporting.

PetFlow's tech department uses Qubit to engineer variations of the site for split testing amongst our customers. Generally, we use highly customized Qubit layers that we engineer ourselves to test everything from changing fonts, color schemes, to powering product recommendations on our site. Product recommendations were the primary reason why we began using Qubit.
  • Good UI - Qubit's UI is relatively user friendly and the learning curve is not steep.
  • Customizability - because Qubit lets you write your own custom JavaScript in your variations, you can do pretty much anything you want.
  • Reporting - Qubit provides basic and advanced reporting that's easy to access and analyze.
  • Product recommendations - this is something we were told Qubit could support straight out of the box, as it turns out, we've basically had to engineer the whole thing ourselves.
  • Preview pane in the editor - doesn't actually load properly most of the time.
Qubit is well-suited for almost all use cases involving A/B split testing, and has an edge I think in terms of more advanced customization versus other similar competitors.

We use it for AB and MVT testing on-site, marketing pop-up messages, collecting customer feedback through an exit survey, and attribution tagging and modelling for affiliates (used by a different team to me). It is being used by the Multichannel department only at the moment.
It helps to implement temporary changes without the need for development time and resource, to test a change before implementing it (to assess impact), and to correctly monitor affiliate sales.
  • A/B testing is very comprehensive - the test structure ensures results are statistically sound, and multiple conversion metrics can be used within the same test.
  • The interface is very user-friendly, it's easy to slice data in the way you want when analysing visitor opinion - which isn't always easy for qualitative data analysis.
  • It would be useful to have an estimated date that a test would be complete based on the number of visitors that have already been part of the test.
  • When categorising visitor opinion this isn't reflected in the downloaded file - it would be good to save all changes here.
Qubit is best suited for on-site testing, allows the flexibility to test a theory and then roll out changes immediately without the need for additional development.

Qubit is used by the e-commerce team only within the company. We have limited development resources available to us so Qubit allows us to implement and test UX improvements on the website before briefing into our development queue. We also use Qubit for competition forms and pop ups.
  • Friendly and knowledgeable employees.
  • Good quality designs supplied.
  • Thorough testing and QA of new projects.
  • Long lead times to launch new projects and there are often delays to original timeframes agreed. In the past year we haven't had any Qubit tests launch on time.
  • Managing expectations better - we are often kept in the dark and are left frequently chasing for updates.
The Qubit team has an extensive client database which enables them to make quality recommendations and advise on probability of uplift on suggested tests. I trust their opinions and they are keen and passionate about what they do. Delays and poor time management due to lack of development resources means we struggle to rely on the service offered.

Qubit is being used on our website for A/B testing and visitor feedback. Running A/B tests enables us to make informed decisions as to what we would like to use/change on the website.
  • Personal contact at Qubit - I always know who to reach out to rather than just having an impersonal support email.
  • Lots of testing ideas coming from Qubit, so we can utilize best practices.
  • Reporting on the data gathered on the website could be easier.
  • Visitor opinion could have categories you could program rather than machine learning.
Visitor feedback is very helpful to check that everything on the website is as user-friendly as possible and working as expected. The feedback gets categorised automatically and given a sentiment rating, so you can filter by topics of interest. Qubit is also great for A/B testing - they have great ideas and are able to implement them quickly.

Qubit is used by the organization I work for in order to test new website ideas before adopting them. We are creating new tests, new designs. We are also using qubit to see customer feedback and to see if an idea would improve anything on the website. Qubit is used by the user experience team.
  • Gives you the ability to test an idea.
  • You can track the result of the test and verify how it is going.
  • Advanced technologies - data collection.
  • Sometimes I find it difficult to write the code using only jQuery or CSS
  • Poor training on the product.
I think that Qubit is very good when you want to test some ideas like an extra button, a different page layout, a different banner/banner remover. But, at the same time, Qubit is quite difficult regarding class creation.

Qubit is our client side experimentation tool and it has given valuable insight into future development as well as existing features. All of our front end developers have access to the Qubit tool and can edit, publish and pause experiments thanks to the intuitive interface. That has allowed the department to deploy a huge number of experiments across brands and pages each month.
  • Qubit has an intuitive interface. Our team of developers have all been trained quickly and can now effectively create, publish and pause experiments. While intuitive, we have been able to create complex experiments that would not have been possible previously.
  • Qubit has supported us when we have tested the platform to its limit, allowing our developers to work collaboratively to enhance the tool and ultimately improve our experimentation process.
  • All of our experiments can be tested on our production site before being viewed by our customers. This gives us valuable confidence and a robust QA process.
  • Site performance is of huge importance to our business, and when we have large numbers of experiments running at any one time performance can be a concern. This may be an extreme case, as we have an abnormally large appetite for A/B testing.
  • The user interface for creating experiments allows our developers to create bespoke JavaScript in the advanced mode. We find that we have no use for the built in editor and it would be nice to be able to default to the advanced mode.
Qubit is a valuable tool for front end experimentation. One area that we are unable to utilise in Qubit is site performance. As Qubit is a client side test tool, we can't run any tests that look to improve site performance. A back end test tool would be required to give accurate results.

Qubit is used by the ecommerce team for the website. It is used for onsite overlay, CSS improvements, data collection and full reporting.
  • Breadth of abilities - on par with the current requirements of businesses online.
  • Advanced technologies - data collection.
  • Strong sales team.
  • More communication between the sales team and the account managers/ team supporting the client. The induction stage for us has been very tedious. For examples priority aspects promised to us have yet to be implemented more than 6 months into the contract.
  • The queue for development is too long and we experience a lot of errors with what should be simple builds. We waited over 3 months for a welcome overlay (simple) which we are still experiencing problems with.
  • Poor training on the product. No manuals provided. This means you are more dependant on them to advance with the tests.
  • We are still waiting for the follow up to the poor sales to account management transition on our occasion. It seems you have to push and push for this.
I'd say it is only suited to a business that has the time to manage it properly.

Qubit is being used by the marketing department. Its use is primarily to perform A/B tests to help us optimise our e-comm checkout process, but we also use it as a rapid prototyping tool and to make small fixes to the website if dev resource isn't available.
  • The tool is powerful and is able to make significant change our website, which makes for great tests.
  • The Qubit dev resource has been quick and effective, making it simple to get complex tests made and running.
  • Account management is very attentive and very good at coming up with ideas for tests and optimisations.
  • Tests sometimes take half a second longer to load than the page they are on, which can look odd when loading a page.
  • The simple mode editor isn't as intuitive to use as was promised, meaning we're relying on professional devs using the advanced mode editor more than we thought we would be.
Qubit is great for making and testing changes to a single, large website but less well suited if you have a large number of smaller sites.

We use Qubit across 2 or 3 of our brands in the UK. It allows us to test and refine offers, implement countdowns and deliver a more personalised experience on the website, while having a real-time check on performance. The best bit is that there is a simple editor that allows even the most unsophisticated techy the power to implement banners, pop-ups and other on-site promotions. That means simple test and changes can be done without the hassle of getting every department and tech teams involved for simple changes.
  • Ease of use for non-tech types. I have created promotional discount pop-ups with relative ease and with no need to involve tech teams or even the design team.
  • Segmentation is easy, as is adding conditions. For example we recently tested a despatch countdown and could easily specify the message being shown on non-mobile product pages where the product is above xxx price. We can also test copy variations easily within this.
  • Changes to the Editor are annoying and seem to strip user ease each time. I recently tried to duplicate a campaign [only] to be told I couldn't as the Editor is changing. What to do? Email Qubit... get an answer, ask a question... etc etc. Doesn't help when you're in a hurry.
  • Seems to be more of a reliance on the advanced functionality, which requires dev involvement or a bespoke Qubit build. Ease was one of Qubit's strengths.
We've traditionally had problems in regards to the tech team's work-flow and prioritisation. In an environment where whoever shouted the loudest and when smaller best practise changes were often ignored, Qubit is good for just getting stuff done.

We use Qubit primarily for A/B testing. We have also used their feedback tools to garner user comments on site. Our marketing department are the primary users of the tools, however, the data and feedback is shared with other departments.
  • Qubit is great for developing code for the site. As a full service agency we have benefited the most from having their tech team write and implement the code on our site for all the tests with minimal assistance from our internal team.
  • Our team at Qubit brought a lot of ideas to the table for us to test. We tested more ideas and iterations of ideas in the past 11 months than we did in the prior three years.
  • Their service is very good. We have had several on site meetings with our analysts. Now we obviously pay for that in the contract fee, but it is something others don't do for the same price.
  • Their communication of new services and product offerings hasn't been great. They have added several tools over the past year that I never heard about from our team.
  • We only scratched the surface with some things in the account administration and other tools. Now, that may not be entirely their fault, since we treated them as a full service agency.
  • Their programmers are entirely in England. Europeans have different vacation habits that Americans. When your developer "goes on holiday," your billing does not. If you rely on their tech team, this can slow development of tests to a crawl.
If you lack technical resources and need a full service agency that can do the heavy lifting Qubit really performs well in this scenario. We found it hard for them to consistently win on tests, so ultimately we found given our size and market, it was hard for us to justify the expense given the payback we received.

We use Qubit for a number of key operations, the key one being tag management, to simplify the implementation of them, and to enable a singular point of truth regarding usage data across our business. In addition to tag management we also make large use of the universal variable (UV) and AB testing services provided, these combined with the simplistic tag management provide us with a golden set of features.
  • Extremely simplified user interface - paramount for avoiding & removing the complexity of managing our used features.
  • Fantastic API - As a software engineer, it's a breath of fresh air having something so robust, yet so simple to work with.
  • Flexibility - Not only does each service offer a great deal of flexibility allowing you to achieve what you need specific to your business, but the range of services/features available make it almost impossible to not do so!
  • More could be done with the data visualisation side, although not currently bad, more could be done/added with the panels to enhance the experience.
It definitely suits larger operations, although it is very useable (and recommended) for smaller operations and startups. Quibit really shows its power the more you get it to do!

Qubit was used by the digital department. I helped us understand behavioural value for the various marketing channels.
  • The reporting capabilities are endless.
  • Creating attribution rules to allocate the sale to the channel it's really due to.
  • Changing perceptions from a last click model to a behavioural model.
  • It was quite a tedious and long-winded to get the reporting tool working properly and getting accurate data.
  • The data only tracked the desktop site and not the mobile traffic.
  • The cost of the tool is very high for the returns generated.
Quibit is well suited to large companies, with an analyst team in place to make the most of the data that is being collected.

We use Qubit for personalisation and multivariate testing in the e-commerce and IT departments. We aim to improve custom experience and UI for our users by using Qubit.
  • Support is very responsive and timely.
  • Their software allows for DIY approach or a managed solution.
  • Great people geared towards helping the business.

We use Qubit as our front end testing platform to carry out experiments on our site. It has proven invaluable in helping us to understand what our customer wants by giving us a data-led approach to building features.
  • Easily build A/B or A/B/n experiments.
  • Great previewing ability for quality assurance testing.
  • It would be great if Qubit introduced a back-end testing platform for some of our larger experiments.
I'd certainly recommend Qubit to anybody looking to gain insight into how customers are interacting with their website. Using A/B tests not only helps you understand the impact of a new feature but helps guide your iterations of existing features.

We use Qubit in the Digital Media Team within BT Consumer, mainly for MVT/AB Testing. We have adopted it through the Digital department to help test areas of potential change, without the need to put such small changes into development.

This means that we can be sure of the change we want to make through analysing the outcome of certain tests (i.e. button colour change). Then we decide whether or not we want to put it into development. If we find the test shows significant increase or decrease in traffic, we have the data to work out if the change is good enough.
  • As Qubit is a smaller Digital company, they are amazing at being very Agile and helping us get the best out of the contract we have.
  • The strength that really applies to BT, is that items that may take weeks if not months to get into our pripeline can be dveloped, designed and test within a few weeks with Qubit. This means we dont waste our vital dev resource on things that may not work.
  • They are very good in knowing how to use their tools in the current Digital Market. They can really assist in getting the business needs delivered in a fast and systematic approach, which sometimes may not be possible in a company that don't know the possibilities of the market they are in.
  • It's hard to criticise a tool or team that you are still in the early days of building that relationship with. I would say that my only negative point at the moment is that although the team is fast and Agile, its experience is limited at doing things that other providers have. There is a trade off between the tools and functionality, which are in abundance on other platforms. The hands on and speediness to live ability of Qubit outweigh this in my eyes though.
For AB and Multivariate Testing, Qubit works as a great tool. We are also using this ability to move into the Personalisation area (i.e. using Data to carve and shape the user's experience). These two abilities seem to work well together in theory and only now are we moving this into fruition.

This tool is being used only on the Marketing department for our A/B testing and collection of customer feedback
  • Captures Customer feedback
  • Is easy to set up basic tests
  • Allows for several exceptions and rules
  • On visitor opinion it could allow us to set in an easier way the look and copy of the pop up box
  • The tagging could be more accurate on the visitor opinion
  • Setting up the tests could be more user friendly
On Visitor opinion it constantly tags positive feedback as negative and vice versa. It also tags bugs where nothing is mentioned regarding bugs or other issues which aren't the ones described. But I appreciate that this isn't a straight forward function.

Qubit Deliver is used within the digital team to implement and measure our A/B tests on desktop and mobile. We test across all sites and site areas and use the tool to build, monitor and analyse the success of tests.
  • Qubit have strong customer service and are great people to work with
  • Their technology is constantly improving and they're always ahead of the curve
  • Qubit's rapid growth has meant that they have, at times, been catching up with themselves in terms of internal resource which can have an impact on their clients
Qubit is particularly useful if your business wants to run onsite testing but requires a managed service and don't want to implement and analyse all in house. They also have a range of clients so chances are they have experience running tests with a number of businesses within your industry.

We first started working with Qubit in summer 2012. Initially we employed Qubit to do a user experience lab for us as the original desktop site had a very low conversion rate. Spurred by the lab results they gave us we rolled out a redesign of the site in September and doubled our conversion rate over night. We then went on to redesign the checkout and increased our checkout completion rate from 50 to 70%. We implemented Qubit OpenTag on the site, using their tag manager to integrate with various 3rd parties like Linkshare, Clicktale, AppNexus, Criteo etc. We also use the Discover platform for behavioural data reporting and A/B live testing on the site.
  • Tag management - we used to do bespoke integrations with our web platform that were lengthy and costly. Qubit made it quick & easy.
  • A/B testing supported by great account management - our account managemer and analyst at Qubit are really young, bright and innovative and keep coming up with new split testing ideas pro-actively: our most successful test was to use the email sign up box on the site to serve a popup layer encouraging new customers to register. We increased sign-ups from 20 to 180 a week.
  • Their Discover platform gives us a wealth of user behaviour data that is more layered and in-depth than our Google Analytics account and has helped us think of the business, merchandising and on-site UX differently. We're currently working on establishing an eCRM program that will user behavioural data captured by OpenTag and put it into our ESP platform.
  • The feedback box has helped on many levels as it gathers information on all parts of the business. It was especially helpful in encouraging the buying team to lower our ASP on the site that was extremely high the first season: by introducing elevated contemporary brands like Rag & Bone, Frame denim etc
  • Pen tag does slow down the site - improve site performance
  • Make behaviour data accessible through customisable open API
Do you have resources in-house or do you need account management? Qubit can adapt to both but that would be a key thing to consider if i was to select a conversion rate (CR) optimisation partner in a new business.

We are using Qubit's opentag and conversion testing products. Opentag does what it says in the tin; allowing us to quickly deploy out marketing tracking technologies. The conversion platform is managed centrally by our marketing team who then act as service providers to product teams alongside their focus on top of funnel conversion projects. We are increasingly using Qubit to test new product features.
  • Allowed us to deploy personalised tests remarkably easily. Their dashboard it simple to use. It allows non techies to launch simple tests as well as giving us the potential to deliver more complex tests
  • Brought a level of insight and methodology into the business which had previously been lacking. We now think about preoccupy development in a different way.
  • The account management and level of commitment from our team is outstanding.
  • Qubit is extremely powerful technology. To get the most from it as early as possible in hindsight it would have been beneficial to have more technical support during those early stages.
  • I would like to see more development of tools that allow us to surface particular conversions issues - heat maps, scroll tracking etc.
Take the time to fully understand the feasibility of deploying Qubit's data layer. It is not a standard A/B testing tool. Do not expect to use it for page v page type testing. It's value is in turning large data sets into actionable test ideas.

I personally use Qubit for A/B testing, Proof of Concept projects and serving up messages at key trading times of the year. We as a business use Qubit in two ways. Firstly we use it to deliver A/B testing on the site, measuring the effectiveness of these changes in terms of conversion rate uplift. This can be based on the data Qubit is collecting on visitors or the feedback we receive from customers directly via the feedback exit survey. We also use the same functionality to be almost real time responsive to the way customers are interacting with our site/product. For example we deliver A/B test content onto product pages that are linked to in a HotUKDeals post, this can be done by the marketing end user very quickly avoiding having to go through our dev queue.

Secondly, we use Qubit's attribution tool through OpenTag to understand how our visitors are arriving on site and the journey they take through to purchase. This allows us to make far more informed decisions on marketing spend, allocating to not just last click channels but those that assist also.
  • Account Management - the support we receive from the account team at Qubit is second to none, and the weekly calls allow us to share ideas and plan trading ideas fro the coming weeks..
  • Simplicity - It's very easy for someone with limited design/coding experience to be shown the system and to be able to test ideas
  • Sharing best in class - operating across a number of different verticals, Qubit are adept at employing best practice in your account, giving immediate results
  • Confidence - Qubit's robust testing system/process ensures confidence in test results
  • Attribution - Qubit provides the data in a great format, there is room to improve consultancy on the data this throws up
  • Data aggregation and reporting - something that Qubit are definitely working on but plenty of opportunity here
Things to think about before signing on with Qubit:

What are my site traffic levels and how long will it take to prove significance in a test?
Do I have the resource to enable self/internal testing rather than relying on account team?
Do I really need to take the full suite of products on day one or can I add when ready?
What level of A/B testing can I deliver through internal resource, do I have traffic potential to try multi-variate tests and would this better suit my needs?
