Companies can't remove reviews or game the system. Here's why

Decent, Not Perfect

Similar in what they offer as a system whole, Cision was able to provide a cleaner look in reporting and more user-friendly interface for daily interaction with the program. Both provide some price negotiation/flexibility to meet specific needs of the department, but are rather comparative overall. We were able to lock in a low price for a multi year contract, but have considered other options for the future in this every changing and improving industry of media monitoring.

The Meltwater platform did not seem as substantial, and if I recall it was also more expensive. We spoke with partner PR agencies from across the country to get their thoughts and the majority preferred Cision. We have used Cision for a number of years now and it has always met our needs.

We selected Cision PR Software compared to Meltwater because we found that the tools that Cision has to offer, with respect to the field of public relations, are more valuable. Media monitoring, which Meltwater offers, is important, by Cision has stronger tools with respect to keeping current contact information of influential media, which is more important to us.

Cision is actually the only PR Software that I've used in my professional career, but it fulfills all of the things that I am looking for. It's easy, user friendly, informative, and the customer service representatives are helpful. I am not sure how it stacks up to other software options, but it works well for me.

  • Meltwater and Vocus
While certainly not perfect, Cision's media contacts were the most up to date and accurate, and their site was easiest to navigate. The beat descriptions for all of them could be better though, and none offer a way to thoroughly search for drive time radio shows that do interviews each day.

I used Vocus for several years before it merged with Cision. There were many things I liked and miss about Vocus - maybe because I had 'mastered' their program. It's difficult for me to recall what may be missing now since it's been at least 4-5 years since the changeover.

I was using Vocus and then switched to Cision PR for the ease of use. Since the two platforms have merged the intuitiveness and user friendliness has only improved. Radian6 is not for media list building since the influencer section is very clunky. It's better suited for conversation listening, something Cision PR is not good at despite having social media keyword tracking integrated.

Meltwater has a much easier to use platform and better reporting mechanism that's easier to read than Cision. Their experts and account executives are much easier to access and more responsive than Cision (as is getting help in general). Meltwater has much better social media coverage and tracking.
Cision has better and more updated contacts but I find the platform harder to use and the lists more difficult to find. Since I [have] used Cision I have switched back to Meltwater.

We attempted to use Hootsuite on a trial basis, but we found it was not as thorough as the older Cision software and thus traded a smoother interface for better efficiency. We'd ideally like a middle ground, but the power Cision has behind its capabilities won out against the easier to use software.

There has been consolidation in this industry, for example Cision absorbed PR Newswire, but Cision seems to have made itself stronger while still producing an effective platform for media monitoring.

Cision's media database has the best interface and most accurate information. While we don't use its media monitoring platform, we will continue to rely on the media database for years to come until another tool rises to the occasion. Big shoes to fill for sure!

Compared to these, Cision, when it comes to its media database and reach info, it's leaps and bounds better. We truly haven't found a comparable media database, and we've pretty much tried anything. Cision is consistent, accurate, and reliable. Rarely has it steered me in the wrong direction. I use it daily.

Cision now owns Vocus, but when I used Vocus in the past, it just couldn't compare to what Cision offered. The database wasn't updated nearly as frequently, so reporter contact info was terribly out of date. I like the Meltwater product, but it still has some room for growth to compare with the Cision suite of services, and with Cision's acquisition of PR Newswire last year, customers should start realizing some economies of scale when investing in both products down the road.

The Cision database is massive in comparison, spanning all media types, including trade, consumer, broadcast, etc. In addition, the Cision customer service has always been excellent, as I have never had a long wait to speak with a representative and the issue is always quickly resolved. If I want a media contact added to the database, the customer service team is efficient on vetting the contact.

I highly prefer Cision PR Software over Meltwater Media Intelligence Platform. The lists are much easier to manage and the tool itself is more intuitive to me. However, Meltwater's customer service is hands-down better.

I can only compare Cision to other email service providers. Whereas it doesn't offer templates so it isn't good for a newsletter, it is great for press releases because they already house the contact lists. Prior to engaging Cision to do blasts, we had to download the contact lists and reload them to a separate ESP.

Cadillac PR Software

Score 7 out of 10
Vetted Review

The only two PR software programs I have ever used were Cision and Vocus. Cision tends to be the "Cadillac" PR software, and Vocus held a close second. Now that Cision has acquired Vocus it isn't even a question any more on which software to use. Hands down I recommend Cision; as long as you have an adequate budget and are going to execute a PR program detailing a solid plan, and mappable objectives. There are some smaller PR software programs out there, and they would suffice if you have a very limited budget and only need to use it for a few things. This is the software you purchase if you are a: boutique PR agency with 10 or more employees, a mid-large size company with several divisions, or a start up company with a decent amount of budget allocated to PR programs.
