Splunk IT Service Intelligence, or ITSI, is a versatile tool used by infrastructure monitoring teams, NOCs, command centers, and IT departments to manage and monitor various aspects of their infrastructure. Users leverage its capabilities to collect events from multiple data sources such as networks, servers, storage systems, databases, and security devices. Splunk ITSI aggregates this data on a single platform, providing a comprehensive view of the entire infrastructure for quick issue identification and root cause analysis.

One of the key use cases of Splunk ITSI is consolidating alerts from different IT tools to provide stakeholders with visibility into the health of services. This allows infrastructure operations, application developers, and DevOps teams to proactively address potential issues before they impact users. Splunk ITSI also monitors the performance and functionality of critical services, ensuring their proper functioning and reducing mean time to service restoration during outages.

In addition to traditional infrastructure elements, Splunk ITSI extends its monitoring capabilities to include telemetry from data centers, cloud infrastructures, and customer media consumption endpoints like set-top boxes, IPTV streamers, mobile devices, and web browsers. With real-time cloud monitoring and proactive alerting features, Splunk ITSI provides operational visibility into business health and hardware and microservices performance. It also supports event management, aggregation, incident creation, self-healing automation, and trend predictions in different environments.

By offering a single view of the entire topology through glass tables and pre-built content packs for real-time service monitoring, Splunk ITSI reduces response time for critical incidents while identifying root causes. Its user-friendly interface facilitates quick adoption among teams with varying skill levels in monitoring tools. Development teams also utilize Splunk ITSI to monitor system performance during high traffic events or peak times.

Overall, Splunk IT Service Intelligence is a powerful AIOps platform that brings together different areas of IT that were previously siloed. It helps manage major incidents effectively, monitor service availability, and limit downtime by quickly responding to outages.

Companies can't remove reviews or game the system. Here's why

We selected ITSI as it was easy to use with the existing Splunk ecosystem we had but also has a number of out-of-the-box configurations/dashboards/services and blueprints. This made it easy to get started and provide value back to stakeholders quickly.

Integration is much easier with Splunk. The dashboards and content packs are given, with minor work they can be customized for different integrations. Splunk has a big community of support. We would spend much longer time and money using other tools given that in eight months' time we went into full production. Also finding Splunk SMEs are easier than engaging ServiceNow consultants.

Our company uses quite a few technologies to sort, filter, and store data. My team uses only a few of these technologies however we just started using Splunk. The more we see what it can do the more I can see us phasing out these other technologies and only using Splunk. The visualizations are remarkable, easy to read, and can be modified for an individual needs. Having one engine to do the work of 4 or 5 and not lose any data is well worth the switch.

Splunk ITSI provides a holistic methodology for collecting and utilizing telemetry data that most other "basic" monitoring technologies and products in this space do not. By allowing us to model our ecosystem's components and services, Splunk ITSI observes and reports at a level that matches our product domain, not our technology stack. We can observe the features, capabilities, and services that we deliver, not just the machines and networks. Additionally, it can act as a toolbox, allowing easy configuration and expansion to integrate with custom data sources (in our case, custom IoT device telemetry from millions of client endpoints).

Also BMC BPPM, SolarWinds.

ITSI proved to be better in terms of ease of deployment, time to value, ease of adaption by operations team. Administration overhead is minimal & integrations with third-party tools are simple because of availability of free add-ons to talk to any technology on Splunkbase.

There are many products in the market like ServiceNow, Moogsoft and BigPanda which have similar capabilities as of Splunk however Splunk is a mature product and they keep evolving its benefits and capabilities. Since Splunk came into the market with its unique capabilities much earlier than others and hence Splunk is much ahead in Events Analytics, Log Management, etc.

Splunk has raised itself as a platform not just as a tool unlike other products in the market. If I talk about Moogsoft it also has similar capabilities but Splunk ITSI has more visibility and its GUI is making a different impact on the users. ServiceNow and Splunk are equally capable products however Splunk seems to have more tech-savvy people tools than ServiceNow.

Other products like Dynatrace and Stack State require there to be an agent installed on all hosts to provide topological views. [Splunk IT Service Intelligence] (ITSI) allows the user to either manually define the topology, or setup a job to do it automatically based APIs, etc. I think depending on the use case this could either be a good thing or a bad thing. It's definitely something to consider when your consider ITSI vs other competitors.

No tool has the power that the combination of Splunk and ITSI has. You can certainly cover all that ITSI does by combining several tools with custom developed integrations, but the out of the box functionality of Splunk leveraged with ITSI is unparalleled.

ITSI stands alone as a tool for converting Splunk data into constantly monitored and organized KPIs. The alternative is manual creation and management of Splunk Enterprise alerts. That solution is not scalable to thousands of Splunk alerts. If you are building a monitoring solution from scratch, APM solutions like App Dynamics or Dynatrace might be applicable tools for certain situations. However, if you are already invested in Splunk and are looking to unlock the value of the data already in Splunk, I'm not aware of alternatives.

We selected ITSI to replace TrueSight as a legacy manager of managers. Used in tandem with the perks of core Splunk and access to logs, metrics, and performance data all in one location, it allows teams to pivot to keeping an eye on rolled-up service health and expose that to the larger IT audience.

I have not used any other product like Splunk IT Service Intelligence. The Splunk IT Service Intelligence can be applied across all the information you have in your Splunk environment. You can correlate the events with Splunk IT Service Intelligence and use it as an APM tool or business service analysis or fraud investigation.
