Our marketing team uses VWO as our primary A/B testing tool. We are able to use VWO to make changes to copy and imagery and measure the success of conversions for those tests. VWO solves a major problem for us -- which is that we no longer have to rely on IT and deployments in order to do some basic to moderate A/B testing on our websites.
  • VWO is pretty easy to implement on websites and doesn't require a heavy technology lift
  • The VWO interface is pretty intuitive and let's non-technical users make variants for testing
  • The VWO reporting dashboard is excellent for determining statistical significance and understanding whether differences in conversion rates are meaningful or not
  • VWO can be difficult to implement more advanced A/B tests (such as modifying page layouts or forms)
  • VWO can cause a slight slowdown and flicker of the website for users, though it is often not noticeable to the untrained eye
  • The statistical engine sometimes declares a winner too soon and if you were to check back a week or two later, it may have changed its decision as to the winning variant
Our marketing team does a lot of creative testing around messaging and imagery. VWO is well suited for this type of testing and can yield great results if you define your conversion goals correctly. However, when we have tried to do more substantial/advanced changes through VWO (such as re-positioning content or modifying elements in a form), we have had some challenges and not been able to get the desired tests working correctly.

VWO is mainly used within the marketing and IT department as a tool to increase website conversion. VWO allows us to quickly test researched hypotheses with the results changing our development priority. The management of VWO is split between the marketing function and IT, meaning everyone has full sight of what is currently being tested on our main consumer website.
  • Good reporting tools.
  • Easy to use UI, you don't have to be a developer.
  • Reasonable pricing.
  • Any advancements on the split testing are also welcome.
  • Integration with Formissimo would be beneficial!
I would say to anyone that VWO is best used to help build a business' case for the change on a website or run split testing. For example, simple A/B testing like language or placement changes to a key CTA is what VWO does so well. As a nontechnical person, it's built in such a way that, even if all the implementation is beyond me, I at least feel like I get it!

VWO is used by our e-commerce team for conversion optimization. Through VWO we create experiments to validate hypotheses aimed at business growth and customer satisfaction. We use quantitative and qualitative data to generate insights on which elements of our product and service can be improved. Next, we validate solutions through AB testing with VWO.
  • Intuitive interface. Relatively easy entry level for creating experiments
  • Excellent support. Fast response times and explained in a clear way
  • Comes with a one-month trial version. Easy 'plug and play' - like implementation
  • Improve documentation and troubleshooting for Google Analytics integration
  • Lack of use of Artificial Intelligence. Some other providers are heavily experimenting with AI
VWO is a great entry-level tool to quickly get up to speed with AB testing. Due to the easy implementation, excellent support and a wide range of use cases and communities, a business can quickly use VWO for small to medium scale AB testing. Once your CRO program becomes more mature, in house development might be a better solution in the long run.

VWO is used by our digital marketing department. We use it for a variety of scenarios. In the past we used other tools for heatmaps and visitor journey recordings but after working with VWO for quite a while and seeing their new platform, we have switched all our tools and consolidated to the VWO platform.
  • Very easy to use
  • Great customer support
  • Effective tool in launching, monitoring, and analyzing UX tests
  • No cons

VWO is more of an enterprise level tool. I wouldn't be as likely to recommend it to those with smaller marketing budgets and teams. But for larger sized companies it is great and will be a useful addition to a marketing stack. Ideally there should be some responsibility and accountability assigned to team-members as it can easily fall through the cracks and go unused.

We use VWO for A/B testing, visitor analysis and optimization for our artist's sites and stores.
  • An inexpensive product allows small teams with limited budgets support the business with A/B testing, which is considered by some as a nice to have.
  • Very easy to deploy and use.
  • Visitor analysis tools give us more options for qualitative analysis.
  • I think some of the automated reporting could be more intuitive.
Appropriate for any website testing or analysis. Even good for real time analysis if using visitor analysis. Not appropriate (and really no A/B testing tool is) for quick turnaround tests for sites that don't get a lot of traffic.

We're using VWO to test changes to our website booking journey, detecting which variations of changes will have a positive impact in how a customer uses our website, key sticking points in the journey and to ultimately improve conversion rate.
  • The dashboard and ease of setting up tests with VWO is particularly easy and intuitive.
  • VWO are constantly adding new features so we can analyse different parts of the customer journey and gain more insightful data on our customers.
  • The VWO conversion all-in-one platform is excellent for gathering insights on how customers use the website and backing up theories. It has helped us prioritise tests and identify issues we hadn't thought of.
  • We're on an Enterprise plan and there hasn't been much communication with our account manager. Suggestions for improvement and test ideas from the VWO team would be appreciated and would help to merit its cost and benefits over other competitor tools.
  • Adding more personalisation features to the tool would be very beneficial.
  • Observations and Hypothesis layouts and structure could be improved so this area of the platform is easier to manage. Checklists, outcomes and graphs would be advantageous.
VWO is an easy-to-use and feature-packed software that would have benefits for any website or team looking to improve their customer journey and conversion rate. It requires some level of web development expertise, particularly for advanced tests and extra caution is advised.

VWO is used throughout the businesses digital product portfolio, as our CRO platform of choice but also for the invaluable insight tools that give us a greater level of quantitive data to traditional analytics platforms.

With VWO's change to being CRO focused, we find the integration between observations and testing to put it ahead of the many competitors.
  • Integrated features and benefits between insight based tools and variate testing
  • Great UI for what is a pretty complex system
  • Really good support team, quick to answer and always find a solution
  • Auto report on activity, unless I'm not aware of this feature my reports are created manually
  • Grouping tests and analysis into folders, I have a lot of tests and analysis running so scanning and finding the right item can be tricky
  • Usage reports, a weekly or monthly report emailed from the platform on our usage stats
Well suited:
• Pages that need to increase their CR
• Newly launched pages and products where we can monitor activity and engagement
• Proving or disproving hypothesis with variate testing
• General problem pages/content on which observations and hypothesis can be based
• Validating design decisions
• Solving arguments or disputes on a particular pattern or feature.

Less Appropriate:
• I'd be concerned if we ever had a situation where we could not use VWO to learn something and better meet the needs of our users and business.

A/B Testing, MVT, Screen recording, Heatmaps - It's used by several departments that are working in an Agile environment and want to know better their customers. Screen recording is a very great feature (especially if we are able to filter the recordings based on specific actions). Easy to use and everyone is able to create a A/B test.
  • Screen recording (if you want based on specific actions)
  • Personalisation (show this version only at location XY at this time range)
  • Set up A/B testings easily
  • Implementation not that easy (depending of technology)
  • Setting up an A/B Test that is affecting one element that occurs to be on several items (e.g. price comparison cards)
  • Adding VWO to 3rd party analytics tools
A/B Testing, MVT, Screen recording, Heatmaps. Always good to do. In the end the tool is good for testing websites that are already live - you are able to make changes easily. But you are not able to "create" something new. Qualitative testing before is needed for sure to get a better "feeling"

We primarily use it for A/B tests - our product owners define a test they want to run - and the web team runs it.
We also use user recordings in order to locate potential problems in our flows.
We use heatmaps the least, because the info is not that actionable - we get the same data from GA and recordings
  • Intuitive UI
  • Easy to set up A/B tests
  • Integration with different tools for more detailed insights
  • Testing preview functionality is weak
  • Products behind general paywall - I need to pay $300/mo more in order to get scroll maps for the heatmaps
  • Support could be faster and take more of a personal approach
  • VWO is suited for most websites - The tool works with classical websites as well as SPAs.
  • Tests are easy to implement and success metrics are defined for each test individually - which gives accurate insights.

We currently use Visual Website Optimizer (VWO) as part of our optimization suite of tools to run AB/MVT tests. With a good pricing model and when paired with a tag manager, it allows us to run hundreds of tests over 45 different websites with relative ease. With a significant required for competitive tools, this proved a compelling way to get management excited about the potential of CRO while also fitting within our budget constraints.
  • VWO makes it easy to get up and running with AB/MVT testing - without loads of code knowledge or a large budget.
  • VWO makes it easy to visualise complex statistics using graphs and visualisations.
  • VWO has an evolving toolset that is becoming more and more mature every week.
  • VWO has a good set of segmentation tools to identify how tests perform with different customers.
  • VWO reliability can leave me scratching my head. Code verification sometimes fails during a running test and previews will sometimes inform me that "test is not running on this page", even when it's set to run sitewide.
  • Code generated by the visual editor can be slightly buggy. CTA buttons were duplicated or missing, but this wasn't visible in the preview - only on site when the test was live. This is okay if you have good QA testing and the javascript skills to tweak the generated jQuery code.
  • Conversion tracking can sometimes be flaky. Tracking using css selectors isn't as robust as I would expect, especially when tracking clicks on modified objects (like buttons). This can be frustrating when it requires me to reset tests after a couple of days due to lost tracking. It would be nice to have a build-in verification tool so I can quickly see if these won't work correctly.
  • It would be nice to see full access to the segmentation options on all plans if pricing model is primarily charged by number of visitors.
If you're looking to get into user testing on your website, and have a little patience to get started then Visual Website Optimizer could be the tool for you. With a pricing model that can cater very well with even a moderate number of visitors, this is an excellent choice for starters. It can consume some time in setup and is probably best used by people with some development skill, but is otherwise a well equipped tool that gives users an excellent way to increase conversions and justify further spend on CRO tools.

We used Visual Website Optimizer only in the Web team. We performed regular website optimization, that is to say, we attempted to increase our conversions for specific, predetermined website goals.
  • Very easy to implement
  • Very simple and intuitive to use
  • Very inexpensive compared to other tools.
  • VWO fails in allowing complex functionality, such as customer segmentation. It does allow you to target specific segments based on cookies, but these filters must be added to individual tests and can not be stored as universal variables. You must create cookies that contain individual customer attributes, or use the generic, predefined attributes such as geolocation, browser type, time of day, day of week, etc....
  • Reporting is not as thorough as it seems to be in some other tools.
I think it is best for organizations just starting out on optimization. It is so simple to use, easy to implement, and inexpensive. The other, more expensive tools such as Maxymiser and Monetate, would likely be too complex for fledgling optimization practices. Cut your teeth and figure out your processes first on VWO, then you can always move to the more expensive tools later when you've honed your team and process.

AMD has used VWO across multiple web properties by various teams within the organization globally. The platform provides a very easy to use A/B/n/MVT testing platform which is hosted on a content delivery network (CDN) for reliability and performance and can be used by almost anyone. It also provides the ability to display personalized content using various methods.
  • Easy to use
  • Great support, fast and accurate
  • Easy to implement
  • Performance
  • New features - though they tend to release updates frequently
  • User workflow - to provide approval process with limited permissions for various users
As long as you can add some javascript code to your website template or page(s), this product should be well suited for all websites. The ease of use of the admin interface should also make this accessible and suitable for all types of users, regardless of their web coding knowledge or lack thereof.

  • Visual Website Optimizer allows you to create several types of tests easily.
  • The menus are very easy to navigate and it walks you though the process of creating tests.
  • It is very easy to see your currently running tests and see how each one of your tests are performing.
  • During test setup some of the goals don't always work properly.
  • The difference between an A/B test and a Split URL test are not well defined.
  • The online documentation is hit or miss. Sometimes it is very helpful and other times it is extremely difficult to find out what you are trying to do.
If a colleague asked about Visual Website Optimizer that first thing I would tell them is make sure they have a goal to test. This is not a tool for testing any website. You need a well defined end goal, however if you have a goal then Visual Website Optimizer makes it very easy to set up your first test and it even lets you know when you have a winner.
