Ceridian Dayforce HCM

Dayforce is well suited to an employee-centric organization. One where the workforce is mobile, spread out, or at least on the go. Coming from a service organization perspective, 90% of your expenses are labor costs. Dayforce is a great service in these scenarios. On the other hand, if an company is small with a minimum number of employees, Ceridian may not be the best option.

  • The best thing about having all the product offerings associated with ADP Vantage HCM is being able to offer a "one-stop shop" to our HR practitioners, managers, and employees.
  • The convenience of ADP Talent Management and ADP Recruiting Management's full integration with Vantage allows us to create more efficient performance, compensation, and recruiting programs and procedures.
  • The user interface.

  • One single platform was a game changer for us. The continuous calculation of pay changed the way our payroll and benefits office does business. The time it has saved in calculating and auditing changes is great.
  • Dayforce looks at the entire employee experience from both an employee and employer's perspective and meets both expectations. Employees are getting what they need and stayed engaged through Dayforce. Managers, administrators, and executives can get the level of detail they want/need to help them make informed decisions
  • Scalability. As our organization has grown from 800 employees when we first implemented Dayforce to over 1350 employees now, Dayforce has grown with us. And not only in the number of employees, but growth of our organizational structure. We've added locations, cost centers, and processes. Dayforce has kept up and allowed to to make these changes with relative ease.

Cons

  • The workflow feature of the product is not quite as robust as one would like.
  • The security setup for the product does not retain history that the client can report on, which makes auditing a bit of a challenge.
  • The policy manager does not allow for true electronic signatures and does not meet legal requirements for compliance purposes.

  • Training and sales seem to be out of sync with the actual system. Sales promises our leaders things that in real life are not possible, or require additional fees/services to implement. Training has featured things that are no longer available live in the system. Support sometimes is out of sync with updates as well.
  • Support is overwhelmed the entire year. This means slow response times, unless you mark everything as urgent. If a ticket is marked as high priority, unless it is escalated we may not get a response beyond "your ticket has been received" for two weeks or more. Ceridian needs to hire more support people.
  • Communication on changes that will be made by hot fixes is often done after the fact.

when required to move from PayForce to Vantage we expected to have greater functionality and reporting - did not expect to be forced to move to a product that was not ready, provided less functionality, required more dependence on ADP Service Rep for day to day function and cost more - was a big swing and a miss for ADP

A lot of set ups vary from company to company so parts of our training we found it difficult to relate it to our processes. They have TONS of training modules available and a streamlined process for what you should complete and when. Would have been helpful to have onsite training for how much one pays for the system.

Take your time and make sure to delegate enough resources in the testing phase prior to going live. Test every scenario you can think of, because it will come up after your in production.

Alternatives Considered

PayForce did everything we needed with less dependence on ADP and at lower cost - Vantage cost more, delivers less and makes us more dependent on ADP - if we had an option we would have stayed on that platform.

ADP, and before that we were on an in-house system based on Gemini. Gemini was not user friendly, but it was much more flexible and powerful than any other system I have used. And because it was in-house we were only limited by what programmers could do. ADP had its issues, but we had access to any part of the system, and very few limits on what we could report on. We also had more power and flexibility in their report writer. We went backwards on our report building ability when we went to Dayforce. This is being addressed slowly by Dayforce, at least, with all improvements I have been hoping for at least on the roadmap. Again, the ease of use and quick results have not been our experience with Dayforce yet.

Overall, we are extremely happy with the Dayforce WFM module. Our biggest pain point is concerning the twice annual software upgrades - which is the only reason I haven't rated them as a '10'. Because every customer is configured differently, the upgrades can sometimes have adverse effects on our current configured policies/rules. And although they roll-out the upgraded version in a test environment several weeks before go-live, not all testing is accurate in that environment. Some issues do not present themselves until you are working with live punches.

Return on Investment

  • negative -it slows our processing due to limitations and issues
  • negative - makes us more reliant on our service rep which slows us down (we used to be able to make changes like adding departments on our own - now our rep has to do this and other maintenance for us)
  • negative - we now have to pay for ADP to process adjustments for us instead of being able to use adjustments on our own

  • When our managers are willing to look for and use them, the reporting tools available to them are very useful. Unfortunately, the reporting still will not include a manager's indirect reports unless they are granted access to the entire location. This has been a huge bone of contention for our managers.
  • The ability to create our own topics and reports has saved us some money over our two years. Other times it has highlighted the limits imposed on us. We had more control/access from ADP with the ability to use alias in custom joins. We have struggled with these limits, and are eagerly awaiting the improvements that will give us that access back. We have had to pay for billable projects as a result of these limits, however, when we could have done the same report ourselves out of our old system. We had to pay $2500 plus for a SOX required salary rate change report we could have built ourselves in our old system, for example.
