We found quickbase to be very user-friendly and easy to use. The first application we created took a little bit longer, as we did contact technical support. The technical support team worked us through our problems and since then we have had no problems building applications. Very easy to use!

Quickbase is idea for non-technical developers. Their community of experts as well as inhouse support is excellent. You tend to learn as you go when trying to build better efficiencies or solve problems. Support is always there to get you moving forward and in a very short time, you can go back to your day job.

On a scale of 1 (easy) to 10 (difficult), I would rate the difficulty level to be 5. I didn't start developing my own apps right away. I picked and played with a few free apps from the marketplace. I went through the structure and coding (if you can say that), to understand the way Quickbase works. When I started building my own, I had a few pain points and I wish I had a formal training. But in hindsight, being a hands on person I think I did it right way. A training would still have required me to build one myself and this way I probably got there faster.

With general knowledge of Excel, anyone can easily learn Quickbase. There is a lot of trial and error involved at first that takes time but after the first few tables and forms are built it's smooth sailing. The help desk and community forum is extremely helpful to those with no "technical knowledge." Anyone who is willing to learn can easily use QuickBase.

I consider myself a "citizen developer" and I developed the application fairly easily. I did not involve my IT department, but I already had a basic understanding of code and how rule sets. I'm also used to working with many different technology platforms in my daily work, so this was just one more system to learn.

I think there's an inherent danger with letting non-technical users create business critical applications, and we do not allow that. However, in the scenario that the application needed is not business critical I feel it's totally possible for a citizen developer to create a simple application for tracking...invoices for example. This can be done in a matter of hours, including some simple automations.

The initial set up is hard to understand unless you have relational database experience or understanding. Understanding how the forms interact with the data is slow to comprehend, but after you understand the concepts it is easier.

The ongoing maintenance and improvements can be done by a reasonably savvy noob, but it helps to have someone that can make your thoughts become a reality.

Citizen developers are able to build simple tables/forms very quickly. Initial applications may take a couple of hours to create as the user gets accustomed to the system. Once this initial learning curve is over, building new applications can take as little as a few minutes, and they are readily available to all users that the administrator selects. Little to no technical know-how is required, and basic formulas are very similar to those used in MS Excel, so they will seem quite familiar.

In my experience, IT personnel can over-complicate the use of Quickbase as they might be too technical in their thinking, generating more unnecessary conflict or complexity than is required. As complexity grows, it is important to have someone who understands the system and the applications it is running, in order for them to know the workflows and how they integrate with new requirements. This can be an administrator or an IT specialist. I believe keeping it simple and smart is the best way. Over-complications lead to bigger problems down the road.

For straightforward data capture (entry) by users and then processing into reporting or workflows, Quickbase can developed by non-technical users fairly easily. However, once one needs multiple tables or cross-app linking it very helpful to have a technical resource to reach out to. Once an application is developed, we haven't found a need a for any real maintenance, only additional development as new user requirements come up.

I was peripherally involved in the development of the checklist from a Manufacturing Engineering perspective, in that I was there to try and optimize the procedure to reduce process time required in completing the checklist without sacrificing quality. My understanding of the QuickBase program was mainly asking questions about ways to store and retrieve data for the operators to quickly display relevant information. I was involved by asking if certain things were possible (scanning a barcode to upload information from the job), which we found an add-on for. Reducing operator input through typing significantly decreased the amount of time doing data-entry, which increased uptime on actual QC related activities. We looked at the possibility of having the operator respond verbally to cue questions from the program, but was not able to find a working voice recognition software that would suffice.

For all those people who is interested in building applications on Quickbase I can tell that it requieres a basic excel knowledge regarding to formulas and logic to solve problems. A friend of mine has been working with that tool and it didn't take so long to learn. Obviously, if your app has complex rules and formulas you should requiered a training from quickbase.

Easy, easy, easy - again I am the sole designer of our applications, and I've encountered few situations where I've been unable to meet the business needs brought to me. I will say that I fully acknowledge there is some potential within QuickBase that we aren't leveraging due to my lack of technical background (JavaScript for example), but overall it's quite easy to use. I should call out the power of the user community in finding solutions to more complex problems - more complex things like formula field design were just a Google search away.

You do not need to be a technical expert to use Quickbase. However, it does take a little bit of time to adjust. It would be helpful to have some technical capabilities if you're going to use formulas for enhanced reliability of the application.

If you are any good at Excel, you'll find QuickBase easy.

For the people in my team who have helped develop applications, they have all commented to me on how surprisingly easy it is to develop basic applications.

For the more complex applications, I have relied upon a wealth of information on the QuickBase community site, as well as QuickBase help cases.

I work in IT so my view may be a bit skewed. I found building custom apps fairly easy. As far as supporting other users, I found the biggest issue to be them over-complicating a process and blaming QuickBase for not making it easier. My number one suggestion to developers of apps is to make use of a whiteboard and have detailed flow charts.

I am not a technical person. I am sales and operations. There was a need and my research led me to Quickbase. I programmed the whole thing. I am sure there are more sophisticated things Quickbase can do but what was created was easy but very useful. If I can do it, anyone can.

I don't have a developer background, but I am able to build QuickBase applications. For specific problems in that process, customer support is very helpful and responds in a timely manner to questions. online database help is also a great resource and it's nice to be able to ask the community for tips.

Most of our team are not developers. It is helpful for the folks "developing" applications in QuickBase to have at least a basic understanding of formulas in Excel. Beyond that, almost anyone should be able to develop apps in QuickBase.
