What is ScienceLogic SL1?

The ScienceLogic SL1 platform aims to enable companies to digitally transform themselves by removing the difficulty of managing complex, distributed IT services. SL1 uses patented discovery techniques to find everything in a network, so users get visibility across all technologies and vendors running anywhere in data centers or clouds. The vendor states the advantage of SL1 is that it collects and analyzes millions of data points across an IT universe (made up of infrastructure, network, applications, and business services), to help users make sense of it all, share data, and automate IT processes.

With SL1, the user can:

  • See everything across cloud and distributed architectures. Discover all IT components—–across physical, virtual, and cloud. Collect, merge, and store a variety of data in a clean, normalized data lake.
  • Contextualize data through relationship mapping and machine learning (ML) for actionable insights. Use this context to understand the impact of infrastructure and applications on business service health and risk, accelerate root cause analysis, and execute recommended actions.
  • Act on data that is shared across technologies and IT ecosystem in real time. Apply multi-directional integrations to automate workflows at cloud scale.

I believe visibility and transparency have improved considerably. Also and more importantly than the question perhaps seems to indicate: SL1 has been a great platform for actually improving monitoring capabilities, say from two dimensional dead or alive monitoring towards scenario/service based monitoring thus improving quality of managed services and business continuity and laying the ground for DevOps and CSI work.

I was the project manager running the deployment of the tool across one of our accounts, so I received the feedback from supporting teams, and even though they are still in the learning curve, they are happy with results and willing to take advantage of the tool.

With previous monitoring product, it had to be used with a client to view the current status of the infrastructure and not everyone could use it. With ScienceLogic SL1 everybody can access our monitoring portal via browser and customize all the needed views, reports and dashboards to their specific needs.

ScienceLogic SL1 gave our customers and their vendors an objective view of the real state of their environments. Vendors are being exposed and more valuable information is available to customers to manage their vendors.

Previously my client didn't have any monitoring in place. ScienceLogic SL1 helped in quick setup and integration with Servicenow. Multiple run-book actions helped us create multiple alerts with different types of alerting sources. It offers an easy way to suppress low-level alerts or events. It helps us to monitor multiple services in infra like AD, DNS, and hyper-v, etc.

We have gained much higher visibility into our hardware since the implementation of ScienceLogic. If a problem occurs, we can quickly jump into ScienceLogic to see what is alarming and gives a quicker reference of a place to start troubleshooting a problem. This, in turn, reduces the time needed to bring a system back online.

I am a user of the software. I evaluate and make new software recommendations to management. I work in the infrastructure branch to provide database support to our customers. I perform failovers, backups, and manage EM7. I appreciate EM7's user friendly GUI interface. It made the admin job a lot easier. We are looking for a better monitoring tool for our application.

Sciencelogic was our company's first successful effort to fully combine the monitoring of both corporate and branch networking infrastructure into a single management system. From a single dashboard, or in our case two running side by side, you could see everything from branch outages, VPN issues, hardware health, backup replication traffic, core switch health, and more. While the "single pane of glass" concept is largely salesman hot air, we were able to combine several monitoring and alerting targets into a single system, improving visibility and uptime as a result.

By having all customers in one monitoring tool, it is much easier to see and manage everything. On top of that, there are many mechanisms to provide alerts and notifications so you can always ensure that the correct group of people is notified when certain devices have issues.

There are also tons of customizations on the dashboard side so you can see from a high-level view where the stress points are.

Yes, we got some granular visibility to our enterprise network devices and end hosts. We can even backtrack the old events for reference purpose and the resolution step provided in each alert help take the initial aid to an incident. Helped to maintain the device inventory for the different client device.

When adding a cloud account, ScienceLogic creates a graph of various services configured under the same account, along with all the configuration settings associated with each one. This increases the availability, as different services are not displayed on the same page in the cloud. Here everything is automatically fetched and displayed for convenience.

As ScienceLogic has many data definitely we have more visibility for infrastructure devices and supporting application. Many things can be verified from log itself, Interface GUI status is one of the examples like that it has modules and user interface data available at one click for which no need to login also into the devices. for which we had to depend on different tool earlier

Basic SNMP collection is all that was done with this. Their power packs proved to provide very very little information of use. Repeated attempts with ScienceLogic support caused us to quit trying to get them to help improve the experience.
