Getting support is nearly impossible I believe. We received a tax notice in March of 2022 and I am still emailing them once a week for an update on the case. It has not been resolved and all my emails go unanswered I've found. They make it impossible to call, chat or email a direct person so you just have to keep emailing the support email and wait 3 months for a response I've found. Any instance where we have needed support has been an absolute nightmare in my view.

This software is good if everything always goes smoothly and you never need support. But if they mess up your taxes and you open a ticket I hope you have several months to get a response and it's not urgent in my opinion.

We use (yes, I am a current customer) it as our all-encompassing HR platform. Their support team and turnaround time on issues are absolutely horrible in my opinion. HORRIBLE! If you are considering Zenefits, I would look at Gusto or another saas platform. I have had to sit on hold for 45 mins to up to an hour or more just to talk to a support human. If you send your question via email - in my experience, it could be up to a week before you get an answer and usually, they send you a help link. If I could attach print screens to show my hold time for support issues, I would! It is beyond frustrating!
  • Submitting payroll is super user-friendly (just cross your fingers you don't have an issue).
  • The mobile app is great.
  • Support team response time
  • Train the support team so they know how the heck to fix/support issues
  • Have the support team actually answer the phone
  • Have the support team respond at all!
The mobile app platform is user-friendly for sure. If you need to contact the support team - from my experience, you will wait and wait, and then you will not get a resolution until days later, if at all.

Zenefits is an innovative tool for all of your HR needs. it is incredibly easy to use and intuitive, and everything you need as an employer or an employee is right at your fingertips. Updating your personal information is also extremely easy, and working for a mid-sized company, I have referred to the Organization Chart many times. Great software.

We use Zenefits to process payroll and all aspects associated with payroll and payroll taxes. I use the platform to run all the necessary payroll reports needed by ownership. They handle the required tax filings.

The system is easy to use and offers an app for your phone. My employees are able to track their time correctly, do their time off, and see paycheck and benefits information directly on their phone. The application is great for onboarding and is user friendly so my employees have no problem updating their tax, address, and other vital information! I highly recommend Zenefits!

We have been with Zenefits for several years and utilize several different modules. I love having everything in one place! We use Performance Management, Time and Attendance, Hiring, Payroll, and our benefits are administered by our own Broker and they like the software capabilities as well. Our 401K plan is also integrated!

We have been a Zenefits customer for over 7 years now. When we started using Zenefits in 2014, we leveraged Zenefits as our primary HRIS system to send offer letters, onboard new employees, track time off, select benefits, and integrate with our payroll provider, QuickBooks Online Payroll.

As Zenefits launched its Zenefits Payroll product, we transitioned from QuickBooks Online Payroll to Zenefits at the beginning of 2020 to provide our employees with one powerful app to view their paystubs, request time off, view their benefits information, manage their pre-tax spending accounts, and look up contact information of their fellow team members. By having everything in one place for our employees in Zenefits (both online and in the mobile app), we were able to dramatically reduce the amount of questions from our employees and in turn improve our employee experience.

We’ve relied heavily on Zenefits to scale our business by helping us to be more effective and efficient in engaging and interacting with our employees. Since I joined Boomtown, we have increased our headcount by 5x – and thanks to Zenefits, we haven’t had to add any People Ops headcount to manage that growth.

I am the administrator and use it to run our payroll and pay our taxes. It has been great. I don't have a background in any of this and when I first started using it every time I reached out with questions I got great assistance, and I still do. I feel secure and confident using it for our company.

Zenefits has helped us automate several internal people operations processes. We've digitized our onboarding process, our benefits enrollment and administration, time off, and our 401k. The amount of time we've saved has been tremendous. There are still drawbacks, namely that it can be hard to get in touch with their customer service team sometimes when there are issues to be resolved.

Zenefits is an awesome HR and Payroll platform! It is very user friendly both from an employer and employee perspective. Reporting is easy and customizable! It integrates with platforms we use which makes tasks like onboarding much easier to process and maintain. I definitely would highly recommend Zenefits to anyone!

Zenefits is used throughout the whole organization since we're a small company. It allows employees to communicate their time ins and outs, request PTOs, and keeps track of their timesheets, and any office updates like employee handbooks.
  • Process our Quarterly Taxes.

  • Sends reminders and inform employees of any time changes in payroll.
  • Limit one office device solely used for clocking in and out.
  • Or for employees' personal device to be tracked upon Wi-Fi connection as a clock in/out.
  • For the system to automatically let the team know someone's PTO has been approved, so that our Part-Time employee can take their spot.
Zenefits is definitely well-suited for small companies, probably because smaller companies are easier to manage. I've read that there are some complications if doing multiple locations under one company but I'm not there yet. We plan to set up another location, hopefully in the year 2021, and we'll continue with Zenefits anyway due to its ease of use.

  • Horrible customer service [I feel] that was so bad it caused us to cancel our service
  • [In my experience] Constant payroll errors and discrepancies
  • Several issues with W-2s that were not even corrected until after the filing deadline

We used Zenefits for over two years. The product itself is great and what enticed us to sign up for the service. Unfortunately, [in my experience] the service had so many issues we recently canceled our contract and moved to a different service entirely.

We would have consistent payroll issues where there were discrepancies in the payroll reports and the bank transactions almost every pay run. The customer service [I feel] is HORRIBLE; honestly one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. What ultimately caused us to cancel is we had several issues with the 2020 W-2s posted. I submitted the support cases (3 cases) in January/February. I followed up at least every 1-2 weeks. Radio silence. Any time I would talk to a representative on chat, they would say it's a super busy time of year and someone would reach out soon.

No one contacted me regarding the cases until the middle of APRIL, after submitting the cases over 2 months ago. Then they waited until the very last business day (5/14) before the extended filing deadline (5/17) to resolve 2 out of 3 cases. Our 3rd case is STILL OPEN for the W-2 correction (it is June 15). I have followed up on this 3rd case every week and received ZERO response back from customer service. This employee had to file for an extension and is still not able to file his taxes because of Zenefits' unprofessional handling of THEIR MISTAKE on the W-2.

If this is how Zenefits handles something as important as a W-2, [in my experience] you should not sign up for this service. Do not waste your time with Zenefits. Even though it is cheaper, [I feel] it is not worth the endless hours wasted addressing the non-stop issues with the service.

We used Zenefits across our whole organization. It was used as our primary HRIS and payroll system. All employees and partners were paid through Zenefits. Our benefits broker was registered with our account so we set up Zenefits to manage our employees benefit elections as well. The goal was to consolidate the multiple vendors and manual work we did before into one platform that did it all.

  • Support doesn't exist once you are a customer
  • Tax team has a 3-6 month response time
  • Poor Menu/Navigation structure
  • Fails to pay taxes on time, results in delinquency notices and fees
  • Glitchy UI, sometimes you need to wait a day or two for a section to work again
  • Feels like a perpetual beta product, nothing polished about it
I can't think of any business owner who wants to take something that is a headache and turn it into a bigger header with added costs. If you are looking for pain, frustration, anger, and some late fees from tax authorities, you've found the right product!

Our organization uses ZENEFITS across the whole organization. The app makes it very accessible and user friendly for anyone to use their convenience. Everyone picks up the software fairly quickly, with little to no-training. Zenefits is used for all the necessary onboarding processes, payroll, calendar dates, days off requests, keeping logs, etc. It does a tremendous amount of work that is streamlined easily. Each person part of our organization appreciates the steadfast solution making it does for their position.

We use Zenefits for payroll, time clock management, and PTO management. The website and mobile app work seamlessly for both administration and employee use. Onboarding and tracking of all employees is simple and there are multiple reports that can be accessed at any time. Keeps everyone on the same page. I like being able to pull my entire team's info from one source.

We use Zenefits for a variety of HR functions. The first time we used Zenefits it was to onboard people and keep track of their records and have an integrated Benefits experience. We continue to use Zenefits for record keeping, PTO, Benefit administration and most importantly Payroll. Our company spans several states so having an online resource like Zenefits is invaluable.

  • Listening to customers asking for enhancements.
  • PTO calendars.
  • Help desk for payroll issues (especially tax related ones) takes forever. A phone conversation would be much preferred.
  • We had a hard time splitting our labor force into different fields to easily integrate into our GL.
  • GL and QBO integration too complicated.
  • Payroll tax does not extend down to county level for the states that require this.
We have been with Zenefits for several years now and have watched them transform from a Benefits company providing HR functions to a Payroll company with Benefits and HR functions. The journey has not always been easy, but I have to say they have always innovated and tried to make things work. My biggest complaint is the help function of payroll... sometimes talking to someone can solve the problem 10 times faster than a thousand emails. That being said, Zenefits listens and adapts to their customers and is always trying to improve their product. For that I give them great kudos and is why we have continued to renew our subscription with them.

Before, we used to have to go to different vendors for each of these, so it's great to be able to have a one stop shop in Zenefits. Our entire team uses Zenefits and we have only heard great things about everyone's experience with the platform.

The entire organization uses Zenefits. I was a team of 1 when I onboarded with Zenefits and it saved me TONS of time! Having all docs in one place, onboarding new hires, benefits administration, payroll, etc. It cut down the amount of time I used to spend on these tasks by at least half.

Zenefits is used by our entire organization. I decided to move to them after our asset sale which reduced our number of employees who moved with the sale. This seemed like a good move in order to integrate HR with payroll and insurance.
  • Integration of HR, payroll, and insurance.
  • These integrations are becoming commonplace, and are necessary for smaller companies to compete.
  • Cost is always a factor with growing companies and Zenefits is affordable.
  • CUSTOMER SERVICE - Zenefits needs significant improvements in customer service. Most of the serious issues we experience would be solved with well trained people who are experienced in the payroll space and are available to clients like us.
  • TAX DEPARTMENT - The tax payments dept. is severely backed up (months for a relevant response). Tax payments to States income tax and unemployment tax is not something I ever want to worry about, or get late or non-filing fees for.
  • PAYROLL ISSUES REQUIRE IMMEDIATE RESPONSE - Many issues in payroll require immediate high-level response and our company (and I) will accept no less. We waited for hours, days, and even in a couple instances a month or more, and in a few instances never received a response. I was trained by Zenefits not to trust them, and quickly learned to take the issue in my own hands and begin to find a workaround.
  • CONNECTION ISSUES - Again, this gets extremely frustrating when there is an issue. Doesn't it always seem to happen at the worst time, exacerbating issues and turning a problem into a full-blown emergency? If only someone were available I could call for support.
  • INSURANCE - This one hit us on two levels: our brokers and our ROI. We have a long-term relationship with our insurance brokers who have helped our employees directly with finding health professionals, navigating claims, fighting for us (me included). It costs extra to add them. Additionally, as a "small group" we did not receive the seamless application process I was expecting ("sold on" is maybe more accurate). It was much more complicated. Thankfully our insurance brokers patiently and effectively created workarounds despite my insistence that they use the "system" (which ended up being the problem). Shame on me for that. Our brokers were, and still are, brilliant.
From my experience this may be a product that meets the needs for well-run smaller institutions. I could see Zen being a good solution for businesses with 1-10 employees that all live in the same state. The design of the product and ease of use are good and should save time and money for these businesses.

Zenefits must solve their customer support issue. If they want to be around for the long haul and attract larger clients, well trained, highly engaged customer service, tax service, and IT support people (like their onboarding team whom I would rate highly) will need to be part of their business model. Let me emphasize the word PEOPLE. At this point in our world it's becoming more and more obvious that tech goes so far, and when it fails well trained people are the correct answer.

My advise would be to concentrate people and support where immediacy is most necessary. Consider that it's the end user, the employee, that hurts most from a failure in this area, and that I own that - Zenefits should too.

We use Zenefits as our main HRIS and payroll system. It houses all personnel data including employment changes, benefits administration, performance management, etc. Our entire organization uses it.
  • The user interface is excellent. Our team members have no issues finding what they need to when logged in.
  • It is easy to complete payroll within the system.
  • Access to benefits information is easy for our team members and HR.
  • It would be beneficial to be able to print paystubs administratively once payroll is submitted instead of waiting until pay day.
  • The performance management module could use some improvements. There should be a filter of team members on goals so each manager can view only one team member's goals at a time instead of scrolling through all of them.
  • Administrative (Super Admin) access to all company goals would be beneficial. Right now as the Super Admin, I am not able to see any individual goals so it is difficult for me to help support the team through them.
For our company size (less than 50), I think Zenefits is the best solution out there. We are able to easily pull the data we need, although we have no mandatory reporting at our size so I am not sure about the reporting at that level.

We currently use Zenefits across the whole organization for onboarding, and for our benefits administration. It helps us keep track of employees and hold their information and provide benefits to our employees easily. As the owner of it, I think it's pretty easy to navigate and use and as an employee, I find it pretty simple to use.
  • Hiring.
  • Keeping track of compensation.
  • Support - email support usually takes longer than 24 hours.
  • Navigation - sometimes it's difficult to find things.
Zenefits is great for when I am onboarding someone and getting them added into our system. The ease of going through the hiring process steps is great and the notifications when things need to be completed is very helpful. I don't see many instances (for me) where it's less appropriate but I am sure there are some functions that I'm not fully utilizing.

We are currently using Zenefits for our employees across 5 locations for both payroll and benefits integration with Sequoia. It's definitely a great technology platform for employees to make changes to their personal information and easy for me to access their information. I have enjoyed using their payroll platform, including reporting!
  • Payroll reports - Comprehensive reporting and easy to download formats.
  • Benefits administration - Clear for all employees (and prospective employees) to view and manage their benefits.
  • Simple to use for all users.
  • Full integration with 401k.
  • More accounting features.
  • More customized access levels.
Easy for small businesses to get up and running, easy to train people on, nice look a feel and allows us to automate time off, payroll, and benefit capabilities.

I wish their customer service was a bit more speedy (I've waited on the phone upwards of 30+ minutes without a callback feature). It'd also be nice if their reports were more customizable.
