Litmus

In our organization, Litmus plays a pivotal role in the final quality assurance and testing phases of our email marketing campaigns. It efficiently addresses business challenges by offering a streamlined, quick, and reliable solution, ensuring that our email content functions seamlessly across diverse Email Service Providers (ESPs). Previously encountering clunkiness with other programs, Litmus has proven invaluable in expediting our testing process, providing comprehensive checks for elements like images, links, and responsive design. Its user-friendly interface and ability to preview emails on different devices contribute to a smoother workflow, ultimately enhancing the visual consistency and effectiveness of our campaigns. Litmus has become an indispensable tool, allowing us to meet tight deadlines and deliver a consistently positive user experience across various ESPs.
  • Display emails on different ESP in a quick and organised way.
  • App integration for easy checking.
  • Clear tick box.
Litmus proves highly effective in scenarios demanding thorough and swift testing of diverse and visually intricate email campaigns, particularly in cross-platform environments where consistent rendering across various ESPs and devices is essential. Its quick and reliable testing capabilities make it well-suited for last-minute QA checks, ensuring campaigns meet tight deadlines. Litmus excels in verifying responsive design, contributing to a positive user experience. Additionally, its user-friendly interface facilitates collaborative workflows, making it ideal for our agency with multiple stakeholders involved in the email marketing process. However, for smaller organizations with budget constraints or those with simpler, less frequent email campaigns, Litmus may be perceived as overly comprehensive, potentially making it less appropriate in such scenarios.

  • Quick QA - saves us time.
  • Confidence in how work will go out.
  • Easy to use for a variety of roles to jump in and use the program.
I haven’t used the Chrome extension that often, but when I do, it provides quick access to view and check email campaigns. However, we still prefer to use the full Litmus website, as it offers a more comprehensive experience with all the tools and features in one place. The website’s layout and functionality seem to provide a smoother workflow overall.
Deeper visibility into multiple email engagement and performance metrics provided by Litmus has significantly streamlined our overall marketing strategy. The tool's comprehensive analytics enable quick and efficient quality assurance processes accessible to all team members, expediting our pre-launch procedures. This has notably accelerated our email campaign deployment, fostering a quicker and more seamless process for setting campaigns live.
We haven’t implemented many use cases with Litmus Personalize so far, but from what I’ve explored, the potential to deliver more targeted, dynamic content is promising. I like the ability to customize emails for different segments easily. However, I haven't had enough experience with it yet to see significant results or provide detailed feedback. More time working with the feature would offer a clearer picture of its impact.
Litmus has revolutionized our approach to email quality assurance (QA), providing a user-friendly platform that allows anyone on the team to conduct quick and efficient QA checks. This accessibility has significantly expedited our pre-launch procedures, making the process of setting campaigns live notably quicker and more seamless. The democratization of QA tasks within the team has not only improved efficiency but also enhanced collaboration across various stakeholders in the campaign deployment process.
We selected Litmus primarily due to its balance of cost and functionality compared to other platforms. It offers a wide range of features for testing, previewing, and optimizing email campaigns, which was critical for our needs. While some competitors offer similar tools, Litmus stood out for its ease of use, reliable integrations, and comprehensive reporting capabilities. The value we get from these features at a reasonable price point made it the best choice for our team. Additionally, Litmus’s flexibility across departments and its ability to scale with our needs were major factors in our decision.

The entire production team using Litmus from the account managers to help the clients review the work to the technical specialists before any emails go live to ensure that everything is showing as it should. Our designers use it to ensure that their designs are translating as intended as well.

  • Email Preview on other esps
  • Reviewing campaigns before they go live
  • Technical testing of different modules and blocks
  • dark mode
  • We haven't really had anything unexpected
  • Built in testing through google chrome is nice
  • With some additional features and functionalities like Spell check this would be extremely beneficial for another set of eyes on the content of emails
It's one the best tools that we've found for this type of tool but we would like some additional features like spell check so if there's a platform that features that with everything else Litmus has, then we'd potentially look to move over to that platform instead. However, we are overall pretty help with the platform.
Yes
It replaced Email on Acid and we were looking for additional ways to make the workflow easier and more seamless vs. jumping from platform to platform. With the integration with Google Chrome this allows us to do some quick testing without navigating away from the email window in platforms like Klaviyo which was appealing to us.
  • Integration with Other Systems
  • Ease of Use
The most important factor in our decision is ease of use. Since we have a large team using the platform, it’s essential that the system is not only quick and accurate but also intuitive for everyone. We need a tool that streamlines the process, minimizes the time spent on final checks, and ensures that all users, regardless of their technical skills, can navigate and perform necessary tasks without hassle. This efficiency is crucial to maintaining smooth workflows, enhancing productivity, and delivering high-quality results consistently.4o
If I had to do it again, I would place more emphasis on hands-on trials and user feedback earlier in the process. Involving a broader range of team members from the start would help assess ease of use across different skill levels. Additionally, I’d focus more on evaluating long-term scalability, support, and integration with our existing tools to ensure seamless workflow management and adaptability as our needs evolve. This approach would provide a more comprehensive understanding of the platform’s performance in real-world scenarios before making a final decision.
  • Implemented in-house
No
Change management was minimal
  • None
I didn’t really personally participate much in the implementation of Litmus, but from what I observed during the process, it was a smooth process with minimal disruptions. The team was able to get up and running quickly, and the platform’s user-friendly interface made onboarding fairly easy for everyone involved from the start.
  • No Training
Yes, the product was relatively easy to learn without formal training. Its intuitive design and helpful resources made it simple to get familiar with the key features. I would recommend this approach to others, especially if they have a tech-savvy team, as it saves time and gets people up to speed quickly. However, for those who prefer a more structured approach or have less technical experience, some initial training might still be beneficial.
I think the product's configurability is just right for this type of product. Litmus offers a good balance between providing customizable features without overwhelming users with too many complex options. It allows us to configure key settings like testing and reporting, but it's not overly complicated, which keeps things manageable for teams with varying technical expertise. There’s enough flexibility to meet our needs without feeling too limited or complex.
One recommendation for configuring Litmus is to set up clear workflows for testing across different email clients and devices early on. This ensures consistent quality and saves time during campaign launches. Additionally, integrating Litmus with your email service provider (ESP) and utilizing folders or tags to organize projects can help streamline your process. Using Litmus’s automation features to run tests on a regular schedule is also a best practice, as it helps identify potential issues before they become problematic. Lastly, take advantage of the collaborative features to share tests and feedback easily with your team.
No - we have not done any customization to the interface
No - we have not done any custom code
We didn’t do much additional customization for Litmus beyond the basic setup, but we did configure automated testing for key email clients and devices to streamline our workflow. Additionally, we customized our dashboard to prioritize the most commonly used email previews and reports, which made it easier for our team to access the information they need quickly. This small adjustment helped improve efficiency without overcomplicating the platform.
No, we didn't purchase premium support because we felt that the platform's standard support and resources were sufficient for our current needs. Our team is confident in handling most issues internally, and the platform's ease of use and robust documentation minimized the necessity for additional support. If our requirements grow or we encounter more complex challenges, we may consider upgrading to premium support in the future.
No
We haven’t really needed to reach out for support from Litmus, as the platform has been super user-friendly and straightforward for what we need. The documentation and resources have been enough to handle any small questions that have come up. That said, if we ever do need support, I’m confident Litmus will be there to help, given the great things we’ve heard from others.
  • Reviewing emails on multiple email service providers
  • I think all the steps during the QA process is a bit clunky and not as straight forward
I’d rate Litmus's overall usability an 8. It’s a solid platform that's easy to navigate and performs well for most of our needs. However, it could be improved with features like a built-in spell check, which would save time during the review process. Also, I’ve found the Chrome integration to be a bit finicky at times, which can slow things down when trying to perform certain tasks. Addressing these issues would definitely bump my rating higher.4o
I’d rate Litmus's scalability an 8. The platform does a great job of handling multiple users and departments, making it flexible for organizations with varying needs. However, there’s room for improvement when it comes to managing larger-scale deployments, especially in terms of integrating seamlessly across different tools and platforms. Some advanced features could be more customizable for different team requirements, which would enhance its scalability even further.
I’d rate Litmus’s availability an 8. Overall, it’s reliable and available when needed, with minimal downtime or disruptions. However, there have been occasional minor issues, such as brief application errors or slow loading times, that slightly affect its availability. These are infrequent, but addressing them would push the rating higher.
I’d rate Litmus’s performance a 7. While pages generally load quickly and reports are generated in a reasonable timeframe, there are occasional slowdowns, especially when working with more complex reports or integrations. The platform can sometimes lag when connected to other software, which affects overall efficiency. Improving speed and performance consistency would elevate my rating.

I’d rate Litmus’s ease of integration an 8. While it integrates well with several tools, I’d like to see more seamless connections with major email providers to avoid having to leave the platform for certain tasks. Expanding these integrations would make workflows smoother and more efficient, boosting the overall experience.
My advice for integrating with Litmus is to focus on making the experience more seamless, especially with major email providers. The more tasks that can be done directly within the platform—like building, testing, and sending emails—the better. Reducing the need to switch between platforms would streamline workflows and save time for users, making the overall process much more efficient.
I didn’t have to have a direct interaction with a vendor during the sales process, so I can't provide a specific rating. The process was handled internally by our team, and from what I observed, it went smoothly without any issues. The platform was easy to onboard, making the transition straightforward.
I’d rate the vendor an 8 for ease of working with them after the sale. While I haven’t had much direct interaction with their team, everything has gone smoothly, and there have been no issues. The available resources and support seem sufficient for our needs, and overall, the experience has been positive.
I can’t recall the exact terms we negotiated with the vendor off the top of my head. However, from what I remember, the process was smooth, and we were satisfied with the agreement. Our main focus was ensuring the platform met our needs for ease of use, scalability, and overall functionality.
My advice for dealing with the vendor is to be clear about your needs upfront, especially regarding integrations and scalability. Ask detailed questions about support options and ensure you have a dedicated point of contact for any issues that might arise. Building a strong relationship early on can be helpful.

We primarily use Litmus for the testing component for our email, seeing previews and reviewing the QA components. Being able to see how our emails look from different clients and on mobile and desktop is incredibly helpful for us to optimize our emails.

One key business problem that the product addresses is being able to see the spam testing, loading speed, and accessibility for clients. Having intel from the get-go on problem areas to help us ensure a higher inbox placement rate is key and has been so helpful for us.
  • I love how Litmus sends emails and webinar training to help continue education
  • The Preview and QA feature is so helpful
  • The Builder feature to see our code and find problem areas
  • Customer service and continued support
Litmus has been so helpful for my team and me to test our emails in advance before sending, find any problem areas before delivering, and check spam and accessibility. It has been a game-changer for our email programs and a huge part of our email program's success!

  • It has saved me a ton of time not having to manually test all of my emails and having a wide range of previews in one space.

  • It helps me see any problem areas in my code or email in general that needs to be fixed before sending.
We use Marketo for our email program and prefer the testing features in Litmus rather than Marketo because we feel like we get a better picture of our email previews and performance!
We have found that in the past, we have done basic previews in our email platform, and after testing those emails in Litmus, we've seen that our images are the wrong size or text isn't centered on certain email clients. It's helped us refine our email processes, optimize our email campaign success, save time for testing, and ensure that everything looks good and is ready to send.
My team members will often use Litmus to review emails, but I am the owner of our email program, so I primarily am the one utilizing the tool. My manager and teammates use the system to review the emails at times. We haven't used the task list features or commenting features but look to doing that in the future.
We didn't look into many other competitors to Litmus - when we found the platform and did our demo trial, we saw that it had all of the functionalities and capabilities that we were looking for and then some. The price was right, the customer service was great and responsive, the platform was easy to use, and we haven't looked back since implementing!

I love using Litmus and find that it has been a huge component of the success of our email campaigns. I can't say enough great things about the platform, and I have seen firsthand how it has saved me time building and sending fully optimized email campaigns. I would absolutely renew again.
Yes
Yes - sort of! We currently use Marketo to send our email campaigns, and it has the base functionality to test emails from desktop and mobile. Still, we were looking for a solution that would give us a more detailed view of how our campaigns perform on desktop, tablet, and mobile. Litmus has done this for us and allowed us to see spam issues or any images being blocked.
  • Product Features
  • Product Usability
The most important factor for us was the product features - we were very impressed by the wide breadth of features within the platform and the many capabilities available. There are features available that have helped us in more ways than one. My team and I have been very pleased with our decision to add Litmus to our marketing stack.
I don't think I would change anything - as mentioned before, Litmus was the first platform I came across during my research, and it had all that I needed and more, so if I had to do it all over again, I would choose Litmus. It's been an awesome product to have!

I have not purchased premium support. We have been using the platform for two years now, but being a smaller marketing team, we don't need as much support with our plan. But as we continue to grow, we may look into this in the future, but I have no doubt that premium support is helpful.
No
When we first started using the platform, I tested some of our emails that we were currently using and, with the wide variety of email clients for desktop, mobile and tablet used for the preview section, I was able to see that our images were rendering differently - the software allowed me to fix this issue to have our emails be consistent. I would not have known this without Litmus.

Great product, scalable, and easy to use. We love it with the variety of email campaigns that we send. I highly recommend it!
I haven't ever experienced a time when I needed to use the platform, and it wasn't available.

I currently utilize Litmus to test the functionality of our emails across multiple email providers to ensure they will display properly. Before we had no idea how the end result was looking for our users, but by using Litmus to test every email, we can send our emails with confidence knowing how they will look.

If you looking for a great way to test email visibility across multiple ESPs, then Litmus is the place to go. They also offer great top-level analytics that can help further marketing decisions as to which platforms to keep more in mind when designing emails. In terms of building an email from scratch with ease, Litmus is not the go-to platform.

  • Time saved testing emails.
  • Not worrying about how emails looked in platforms our clients weren't using.

It gives us a better understanding of where we are better served to utilize calories on emails since we're only a three-person team. If I know that none of our clients are using Lotus Notes to receive our emails, then I don't have to waste any time or effort trying to troubleshoot what the problem is with that platform.
To be honest, Litmus' Proof is not a feature that myself or the rest of my team has used yet. Therefore I cannot give a fair review of this aspect.
I use Stripo to build all of our emails and then take that code into Litmus to add analytics tracking and test how the emails will display across multiple platforms. To me, this process works fine as Stripo's building capabilities are far better than Litmus but they have no testing and analytic capabilities compared to Litmus.

It's a relatively low price to pay to ensure our end users are getting the best possible email experience they can get. The entire reason we decided to go with Litmus years ago was because we we're basically walking around blind when it came to what our emails looked like on various different browsers. We also had no real idea what platforms our clients were using, was anybody accessing them on mobile, or how the emails even looked on mobile. Litmus helped shed light on all of our concerns and then some.

Yes, it is very easy to understand without training if you have a basic knowledge of software and how it works. Litmus has contributed well in developing all marketing emails being sent out by our bank. It also helps by providing a checklist and accessibility issues.
As a tester, I am using a checklist to drive my testing and enter issues accordingly. As a team, we review and solve the issues for the required fixes.
Litmus is better than BrowserStack. BrowserStack has limited features when compared to Litmus.
