Overall Satisfaction with Quickbase
In my department, there are three major functions that Quickbase is a solution for. 1) We log our systems checks on a daily basis. 2) We use it for shift turnover reports to notify staff of important events. 3) We use it for asset management to keep track of multiple sites where we have assets. 4) We keep track of pending work orders for vendors. 5) We are also using it for Change Management recording.
- Very simple to learn and easy to use.
- Lots of options for storing and retrieving data.
- It's been around for a long time and has a good reputation.
- I like being able to use a common web browser for QB.
- I am always one for integrating voice command technology into applications. So that would be cool.
- The admin interface could be a little more intuitive.
- We are able to save time with multiple users being able to view data at the same time.
I do utilize the export feature to create xls and csv files for importing to Excel, or to import for PowerShell scripts. This can be a timesaver when I am being pressured for reports and data. I can also highlight the important data after the exports to show the points I'm communicating.
I find it easier to update the values/data in the tables that we use on a daily basis in my organization. We can also easily create secure access to parts of the databases that we need to have shared among other teams while keeping other parts more discreet. This is especially important when we have audits.
Unfortunately I am not a part of the project team that makes those types of decisions. I am fine with using the current tools that we have and much of the time we are using the QB environment. I am sure that if the people in charge felt that something else would be better that we would be able to change.
Microsoft Access was one of the DB programs that I have used in a job previous to my current one. I found it to have many more features than Quickbase does but it was a lot harder to set up and maintain. Also, it was harder to share among multiple teams. I basically feel that Access is not as current as QB.

It is pretty easy to create an application with QB. The time it takes to make a new DB is minimal. Giving other teams and team members access to view or modify the data is a simple process. So basically admin is fairly easy from that standpoint. I use the asset management function quite a bit. It saves me a ton of time.
We have several different departments in my organization that create and maintain their own Quickbases. These are created very quickly and are easily modified if we find that we want to add or delete features. Usually, we can go back and collab on what will work best for all of the stakeholders.
I think most people are able to create apps without much IT help. Although you do need some database knowledge as far as terminology goes, it is easier to use QB than other data base programs. Apps can be created and deleted fairly quickly and easily so that you don't waste time on something that is not going to work.
