8x8 Virtual Office Enterprise Suite

Some of the best scenarios are working remotely. It really allows you to get everything you need out of an office phone right from your computer/cell without any need for hardware. It's not great when you've already plugged in a dialer of some sort, or software like Outreach.io that has some overlap in features (click to dial, especially).

Great for SIMPLE call trees and user extensions. It has trouble with advanced call routing, in my experience. The "builder" for call trees is clunky and cumbersome and regularly drops changes prior to saving. I'm not a huge fan of that tool. We've ended up greatly reducing our call tree as users complained of delayed button responses and oddities when flowing through the queue. Often times RingCentral support will unsuccessfully attempt to recreate the issue and just mark it as "closed" which can be frustrating.

Pros

  • Managing VM
  • Caller ID
  • Virtual TXT
  • Each user has their own conference bridge number included with their profile and with unlimited minuted. Other competitors wanted to charge $.03/minute and would charge additionally per month per conference bridge. This feature brings savings and flexibility.
  • They have vast options of compatible IP phones (Polycom, Cisco, YeaLink). They will help you deploy a third party phone if you decide to purchase one outside of their website (only the deployment, no continuing support).
  • Their customer service is fantastic. From getting started with your new phone system to continuing support, they really excel in this area.

Cons

  • Integration with Insidesales/Salesforce/Outreach/etc.
  • RAM usage could be lower
  • Cross platform?
  • Support for more toll free calling/conference bridge number for other countries. We needed UAE toll free calling and had to go to another vendor for the service.
  • Contacts feature on the desktop app and mobile app tend to show duplicates contact entries.

We switched to RingCentral for ease of administration, flexibility of integration (fax, web meetings, chat client, mobile app) and competitive price. Although the system has had a few quirks as it's been relying on our network much more heavily and integrating with our next-gen firewall, I can't speak highly enough of what RingCentral has done for our business. I love it and can't wait to renew for a longer period of time at an even more competitive rate.

Alternatives Considered

I had no control over this but we are using 8x8 virtual office enterprise suite to get some of the functionality, mostly click to dial and contact handling. It's not exactly a competitor, but if you're looking for an easy way to utilize your company phone system remotely, I've had a great experience, including working from home for an entire month on it.
Tough choice in bake off with 8x8 but functionality and company behind the product tipped the scales for RingCentral

Return on Investment

  • I've reached more leads and contacts than before because I can text to set appointments
  • Easier communication with employees.
  • Easier follow up on tasks/projects with the email reminders as well as the 'create a task' function.
  • Call recording aids in our QA of the client experience.
