I use Slack in two different organizations I work in. We use it for Core Team communications and then sub-groups for other areas of the business. The core problems Slack addresses is having an instant communication channel to share information and company updates. Being able to share and process information in a central hub offers a lot more efficiencies compared to using email.
  • Sharing Information
  • Sharing Documentation (like attachments)
  • Providing instant alerts for new messages
  • Sending DMs to team members
  • Seach filters for finding old information
  • Finding unread alerts can be tricky
  • Seperation of posts
  • Confusion on features of free / paid plans
It is certainly well suited for sharing company information quickly and efficiently, in a far more effective way compared to email. As an instant communication channel, it is very effective. It is less effective for detailed document sharing / editing, as the usability does suffer when going into more detailed project work (editing docs etc.). Project management software is more suited for this.

we use Slack for all internal communications between the departments of the company. We Love Slack!! We used to use Teams but I feel like Slack is way more efficient and doesn't crash as often. We also use the integrations with google calendar, Trello, google drive and Jira. Very great tool
  • integrations
  • notifications management
  • user friendly
  • better gifs integration
We use it for all internal communications between the departments, especially sending notes and attachments, it is also great for calls between 2 to 4 people. For bigger call meetings I'd still rather use Google Meets because it is better suited compared to Slack. Overall a great tool to use for companies

We have been using Slack in our organization from past three years and it is indeed a great team collaboration and communication tool. While the world was in pandamic times and people were working from home, many organizations faced the issue for smooth communication with clients and teams. However, for us Slack helped in:
1. Real-time Communication: It provided a real-time messaging platform, allowing team members to communicate instantly, reducing delays in information sharing.
2. Remote Work Support: Slack is well-suited for remote work, It enabled our team members to connect from anywhere, which was especially important in that time's distributed work environments and even today's as well.
3. Channel-based Organization: We used the channels to organize conversations related to important projects, which helped to keep discussions and information structured and easily searchable.
4. Integration Capabilities: Slack offers a wide range of integrations with other tools and services, streamlining workflows and centralizing information. We integrated our slack with Google calendars, Trello and other project management tools which helped our client services team with more informed and structured projects management.
5. Privacy and Security: It provides tools for securing communication and data, helping organizations like ours meet their privacy and compliance requirements.
  • Automated Notifications: Integrated tools like Jira, Trello, and Google Drive to receive automated notifications and updates directly in Slack, improving visibility and efficiency within the team
  • Message Encryption: Slack encrypts the messages in transit and at rest, ensuring the security and privacy of sensitive information and making our IT team's life much easier.
  • Reminder Bots: We used Slackbot to set reminders, automate follow-up actions, and provided information based on user queries.
  • SurveyMonkey Integration: Integrated our Slack with SurveyMonkey to distribute surveys and collect feedback from team members, streamlining the feedback-gathering process which was a huge support to our HR and Admin team.
  • While threads exist to keep conversations organized, managing and finding threads within channels can be cumbersome. Enhancements in thread management and search capabilities could be beneficial.
  • Slack has a limit on the size of files that can be directly uploaded. Increasing this limit or providing smoother integration with external file-sharing services could be beneficial.
  • Managing guest access can be cumbersome, and simplifying the process for inviting and controlling guest users would be beneficial.
  • Slack primarily operates within individual workspaces, making it challenging to collaborate across different workspaces. Enhancing features for inter-workspace communication could improve collaboration for organizations with multiple Slack instances.
Well suited as -
  • Web Application
  • Mobile Application
  • File Sharing
  • Channel collaboration
  • Easy Integration

Needs improvement on -
  • Video conferencing
  • Audio conferencing
  • Advanvced Search Functionality

My product is an announcement app for Product Updates & Software Updates. Users can create their own widgets and changelog to publish posts and announcements. We also have a feature request, roadmap and NPS tool.

We use our product to align with different departments, create technical support tickets, and work on them with our technical team via using Threads, and integrated Slack with many different applications to streamline our product design process.
  • Direct Communication
  • Creating threads to align with different products
  • Integration with other applications with helps with organization and planning
  • Using Canvas in channels can be improved and highligted.
  • Wish we could add message templates. For example, when creating a bug report, I always have to rewrite the template (or copy it from a notepad)
Slack is well suited for small teams and startup companies. I think using it for very large teams could get complicated due to Slack's simplicity in my opinion.

Slack communication

It's the quickest, fastest way to communicate with peers, external stakeholders. It also provides ample features namely audio, video calls, meetings, screen sharing, so on and so forth, with great accuracy.
  • Super fast
  • Accurate
  • Ease of communication
  • Clarity in audio
  • Offline calls
  • Pin the history for messages
Slack works perfectly when you want to chime in the conversation very quickly with peers & external entity stakeholders. We can pin the self messages as the save records. Provides great flexibility to the audio, video calls with screen sharing features. At times it lags a bit with slight delays in communications, resulting in poor customer experience. It also lags in saving the self pinned messages.

  • Custom Emojis

  • Channel organization
  • Text edits within messages
Slack is just cleaner and better at everything. It is the trusted brand for all things informal communication and it cuts down tremendously on emails.

  • Quick navigation between recents chats
  • Team collaboration
  • Group Calls

  • DMs
  • UX - In my opinion, latest updated introduced horrible UX changes - There are currently 3 floating screens when you're in a huddle - In my opinion, this is just a nightmare to navigate and share a screen with a colleague, especially on a laptop screen. Also they moved the huddle button to top right corner which is just less intuitive in my opinion.
  • Channels and conversation threading - Overall a great idea, however I believe it lacks in execution. I've found it's really easy to miss out and hard to find these threads, search works.
  • Sharing screen and sharing content in while in huddle is always cumbersome in my opinion - I less like to share content on the huddle itself as I believe it's difficult to find afterwards and everyone just misses it. I always share on main Slack chat, however it requires addition screen navigation as now there are 3 active Slack sessions which is so confusing and cumbersome in my opinion. I my experience, everyone I've talked with in the organization just didn't understand what's going on there and why it got so messy and over-complicated
Well Suited for: Team Collaboration DM and huddles File and content sharing Less Appropriate: In my opinion, latest UX changes are really bad. I believe the threads are not easy to find and read New messages updates and notifications are not always clear and visible and easily missed in my opinion - which is the whole point of such app

Slack is used to communicate with our team in the organization, voice & video calls (Huddle) are also supported by the slack which is very helpful in case of connecting with someone remotely. We can share multiple types of files through slack & can integrate with many 3rd party apps and services.
  • Audio & Video calls
  • File sharing
  • Direct messages
  • Communicating through Channels
  • Slack does not show whether the members of the channel or DM have seen the message or not.
  • It uses simple Mobile emojis unlike Skype
  • Integration is available but not easy
Slack is best suited for project management, team communication, files sharing, audio & video calling, integrating 3rd party tools. Slack is less appropriate for high data security industries where the data is strongly secured and the slack does not provide high data security.

As we are a global company, we use it to collaborate across many time zones when we aren't able to actually meet. It is most useful when we need to communicate with APAC, Europe and the America's at the same time as usually one of us will be offline at least. As we mostly work from home these days, it is also essential for just day to day communication when a Zoom meeting isn't really needed.
  • Private groups specific to a task or sub-set of people.
  • Integrates with other apps like Google calendars etc.
  • Understands that people aren't available all the time and has tools that help people stay offline when they mean to be offline.
  • The requirement to sign back in periodically always happens at a very inconvenient time.
  • Threads can be difficult to follow as notifications could be better about new replies to certain thread.
I haven't come across a professional instant messaging service that works as well as Slack. It plugs in to a lot of other work based applications seamlessly like Google Calendars and Zoom. It is a great place to collaborate across the globe as it is sensitive to peoples work/life balance with things like a "do not disturb" mode, the ability to set working hours and schedule message sending.

We use Slack to update employees on changes made to products we use, as well as notify any problems that may be occurring tech wise. We also use Slack to communicate with peers one on one or to communicate within teams or even company wide. In addition, we also have Slack channels such as User Testimonials, where we can submit a form within Slack, which I feel is a great feature within the product.
  • Organization
  • Simplicity
  • Ability to create forms within channels
  • Ability to personalize, i.e. change colors
  • Easier way to search within Slack, in channel and Slack wide
  • Easier way to write notes for self rather than just Slack oneself
Slack is so easy to use within companies to communicate across the company, within groups and/or channels, or just communicate with one or a small group of peers. However, when chatting with another peer regarding a patient, it's not a good idea to release any personal information due to HIPAA violations.

We use it not only as a team chat for private and group communication, but also have coordination channels for short, middle and long term projects.
It has also helped us integrate the same dynamics with other companies that use Slack as well, making communication seamless across companies under a single platform.
  • Manage private and team communication
  • Provide easy to use follow up tools like reminders or bookmarks
  • Allows to search chat history with several filters at the same time
  • In my opinion, access to help and troubleshooting is quite inconvenient
  • I've found contacts section rearranges based on historical interactions without presets to change it based on other criteria
  • In my experience, sometimes notifications of read messages does not go away (mobile)
Slack is a very useful tool regardless of the size of your teams. To be honest, I don't see a scenario where Slack doesn't fit. From small sized teams for casual projects, to large companies, the tools at hand make it a great way to communicate, consult historical data through chats, and documents. The only reason I would not recommend using it is if your current tool covers your needs and your processes are already oiled up.

Slack is well suited for instant communication, also for calls, sharing screen is a great feature, managing channels, mentions, cards are great improvements we have on that tool I would definitely recommend. The less appropriate is for sharing camera, the quality is not so good and we don't have much personalization on that part.

Slack at my company is the main communication platform. Since 2019's pandemic, Slack has been essential on the home office format because is easy to use and has a lot of functionalities that help me communicate with my colleagues on my daily work routine. All the squad message groups, simple video calls and group messaging happens on Slack.
  • Messaging
  • Group Messages
  • Audio and Video meetings
  • Sharing documents and archives
  • More functionalities on video calls
  • Advanced text formatting
  • Better archives and documents management
  • For simple scrum's ceremonies as dailys, Slack is an easy way to do it, since the project already has a channel.
  • Quick calls to colleagues when working from home.
  • Using my own conversation to send drafts
  • Setting personal status
  • Switch between devices is easy

We use Slack for internal communications, to keep track of outgoing email campaigns (internally), but also as a log for the various automations we have set up (product out-of-stock notifications, new customer support tickets, etc.). We also use Slack as a command prompt to trigger some automations in a third-party app.
  • Team communication
  • Task reminders
  • Keeping various logs in dedicated channels
  • More direct integrations with third-party apps so that we don't have to use a third party to connect Slack to them
  • More advanced integrations (namely more triggers)
  • Option to broadcast user status change to other team members
Slack is a phenomenal app. The app is extremely powerful yet very easy to use on a daily basis. Slack excels in keeping conversations organized but that's just the tip of the iceberg. Our entire team uses the built-in reminders to stay on top of tasks and we also utilize channels as how-to knowledge-bases for our customer support reps and other staff members. We use various automations in our business and they all connect to Slack. For example, we use Shopify Flow to automatically send Slack messages in various scenarios:

- When a certain product goes out of stock
- When an order is disputed or is put on hold or has an address change or some other detail we want communicated to the warehouse or a team member
- When the time has come to take on a repeatable task (such as scheduled email list cleaning)
- When an email campaign goes out (so that the warehouse and our customer support reps know to expect a spike in orders/tickets)

We also forward emails to dedicated Slack channels which helps us keep certain information logged and easily searchable/referenced when needed. And finally, we use Slack as a command prompt to trigger automations in Zapier.

  • Team management
  • Integration with Outlook, monday.com, 15Five
  • Alerts necessary stakeholders when certain business processes take place
Increases asynchronous collaboration between remote teams.
Acts as the main source of internal communication reducing emails.
Increased visibility to schedules across teams.
Allows for consistent communication across multiple verticals.
  • Integrations with other apps.
  • Ability to focus communication to certain stakeholders while maintaining visibility to others.
  • Forwarding of important messages to other stakeholders!
  • Searching within multiple slack channels can sometimes be difficult. Pinning is helpful, but sometimes hard to follow.
  • Is there an option to work on documentation together - that would be nice!
  • Channel management sometimes is overwhelming a tough
Well suited for asynchronous comms to teams who all have varying schedules.
I love the new functionality where you can add a new person to an existing chat and share/forward a chat with other.

Not appropriate for information that needs to be saved or recorded.
Not appropriate for formal communication to teams.
Not appropriate for collaboration with external users.

We are heavy users of Slack! It's a great way to connect easily and really fast with anyone. It's our preferred way of communication over email, 100%!
  • Connect
  • Set up meetings
  • Set up teams for specific projects
  • Make announcements
  • Some issues with notifications
  • Sometimes, it's easy to miss messages
I think Slack is great for quick and easy communications, reaching out to a person, discussing something specific, and moving on. Great to create teams for specific projects. Might not be great to keep track of long projects, might need better PM software. It's great for a quick sync call.

Since we all work remotely, we use Slack as a form of instant communication throughout the day. We are able to communicate with whoever we need to quickly, without having to wait for an email response. Our use of Slack has even evolved to having meetings over a Slack Huddle instead of Zoom or Google Meet.
  • Provides a meeting platform
  • Provides quick communication
  • Provides group channels where entire departments can communicate
  • I don't have any complaints with Slack.
Slack is a fantastic platform to keep employees in communication. It can also integrate many other apps like Google Calendar, Zoom, Monday, etc., which makes the workday easier because you are not bouncing between apps.

We use Slack as a secure platform for to communicate with short massages, pics attachments etc. It majorly solves the time and formalities of typing an Email and communicate and get a response at real time basis
  • Real time connection with team members within the organization
  • even be used to schedule the messages
  • Platform can be used to integrate other tools such as Trooper and use it to gather information with set reminders
  • Need Simplified way of integration and removals of the third party tools
  • Huddle call should allow on spot addition of members, currently if you have to add a person who is not in group then first you have to create a group and then make the huddle call.
  • Deletion of inactive members should be allowed as currently only deactivation is allowed
Well Suited: 1) Fast paced environment, Small teams. 2) Employees / team members should know how to communicate well with limit of words 3) Where every communication does not need an attachment. Less Appropriate: 1) Large Organisation, It will be chaotic to find right person, or then have to create different domain for section or department but then cross functional communication will take a blow.

I have been using Slack for the last 3 years on a project in which I am a freelancer. The company I collaborate with uses this software to manage communication between teams. We have some workspaces between different teams based on organizational division (i.e., marketing, design). Most written communication between team members is done inside Slack.
  • Text Communication
  • Audio calls
  • Knowledge organization
  • Audio calls (huddles) never seemed to work very well
  • Free plan should keep more than 90 days message history
  • Threads and channels organization is not very intuitive for beginners
Slack is well suited for team collaboration, remote work communication and even customer support channels. It can centralize various work activities, especially for teams bigger than 5 people. However, it may be less appropriate for sharing sensitive information and may not be affordable, especially for small businesses. It can also be overwhelming in casual projects. Its applicability should be considered based on the specific needs and context of the organization or project.

We use Slack as an internal-team productivity management tool. It allows us to create groups on various topics of interest and write, comment stuff on them. We use it to discuss our design, deployments and more. We can also create threads with topics as well and it allows one-to-messaging.
  • Add multiple company domains and seamlessly switch between them
  • Thread Management in topics
  • Inter Team Communication
  • Mobile App
  • The topics or channel listing can be like Whatsapp
  • Automation of tasks, reminders, calendars
In my opinion, not super great for agile product management. In my opinion, it's too tedious. In my opinion, not great for documentation as the thread view is great for discussion but does not work wonderfully for documentation. In my opinion, documentation needs a Wikipedia kind of viewing

Slack is widely used in our company for instant communication, huddles and direct communication to specific groups through Slack channels. Using slack improves the communication with the team and helps us to be up-to-date with all relevant information for our business. Furthermore, Slack helps us to quickly resolve doubts or questions we have from different projects, as we can quickly reach out to anyone in the company and if things aren't clear enough, we can always hop in a quick huddle to clarify any questions.
  • Fast, stable and easy huddles
  • Channels are created easily, and it's simple to communicate to a broader team
  • You can acknowledge any message by reacting to it using emojis.
  • It is really easy to add new users
  • You can sort all your messages so you don't miss any important communication
  • You can add applications to create an 'all in one' environment
  • It would be good to get sent notifications
  • Options to delete messages should be available always
  • Message forward to email
For a company that works with remote employees, like our company, Slack is extremely good at allowing instant communication, files sharing, calls, huddles and many other features that makes it so easy to feel like that communication flows quickly and easy. It is also a great ally to manage projects as it allows to integrate with tools like Monday.com, helping you to streamline communication with the team overall.

I work at a university and our department uses Slack to decrease the number of emails in our inboxes. We use it to post work status updates, share news stories relevant to our work, connect with colleagues (both on-campus and remote employees), encourage collaboration, and more. If there's something that is meant to be a quick opportunity for discussion and collaboration, it goes on Slack. Otherwise, larger projects or messages that require more consideration, still go through email.
  • Encourages collaboration
  • Organizes discussions into customizable channels
  • Provides a robust private messaging tool
  • There could be more app integrations available, and an easier way to connect the apps that are available.
  • A better way to flag messages and come back to them later would be helpful.
  • I'd love an easier way to mute certain types of messages within a channel.
Slack is great for quick messages and updates where back-and-forth communication is needed. For example, we use it to share relevant news articles, brainstorm ideas for social media, wordsmith headlines and email subjects, private messaging, and more. It is less useful when there are larger discussions on a topic that need to be have or for when specific requests are being made. For example, I don't find it helpful to use Slack for official project requests or discussions that require more thought or research before responding. There isn't a great way to flag messages to come back to later, so email is still a better spot for those kinds of things.

We are making all in-business communications with Slack. We have team chat groups, also we are voting for an event, sharing news about company for any kind of new activity, development or what else. Also, we are using huddle for in-corporate meetings. It is very successful tool for communication.
  • Huddle meetings
  • Thread for messages
  • Voting
  • Participant capacity
  • Calling out-of-company people and make meeting with them
the most specification is used for chatting and meeting. These are successfully work but we cannot give remote control to any other participants. Also, I don't use too much but a global product has a Slack channel and I can add the channel to my Slack dashboard and I can participate to the group although non-company user.

We use Slack to communicate internally with our team, which is very helpful for our remote employees who we would not be in such close contact with if we didn't have Slack. It ties to our calendars so we can see who is in a meeting or not, which is also helpful!
  • I like that it has icons so you can quickly know who's busy (in a meeting) or working from home just by looking at the emoji.
  • It also has a feature to integrate gifs into the workspace which I think adds a fun way to communicate with others!
  • Lastly, its ease of use is great! It's very easy to learn and integrate into our everyday use at the office.
  • I do wish Slack made it easier to see your DM's. They added a feature that moves them around based on who is active, but if you're trying to find a thread with a teammate who isn't active on Slack at that moment, it's a lot harder to find.
  • I also think they could integrate with AI more and have apps for AI.
  • Lastly, it would be awesome if it would tell you when a coworker was last active. It would be nice to keep track of when people are logging off.
I think Slack works really well in office settings, or even for any group of people who need an easy way to communicate with each other through organized channels.

It may not be the best for those who intend to use it as a social media type app, it is more geared towards business use.
