We are a multi-entity biotechnology company with offices throughout the US. We currently use TriNet for all of our US and one Canadian employee. Using TriNet allows us to offer top-notch benefits to employees no matter what state they reside in. It also helps our very small HR department stay compliant with the laws in all the different states. We have a few international employees who are not part of TriNet only because they do not offer services in those countries.
  • Our product support team is fantastic.
  • Benefit choices are great and selection and enrollment process was very thorough.
  • Hiring and employee onboarding is relatively easy.
  • Employee access and interface seems to work well.
  • Requests you make in the system which appear automatic are not. They actually require manual entry by TriNet groups which can sometimes cause delays and be problematic.
  • Because of the above issues, deadlines for updates need to be several days before payroll close and there is no good mechanism to correct or update things which change between the deadline & the end of the payroll period.
  • The information and documentation they provided to support companies for COVID 19 was helpful, the process for requesting FFCRA leaves is very complicated and keeps changing. Often the deadline for completing the paperwork is before the events happen and there is no way to backdate submissions.
  • TriNet rolled out an integration with Bamboo HR but it is not working as planned.
  • The termination process needs to be addressed. If you do an involuntary termination, when their last payroll check is processed, even if you turn-off the direct deposit option, the employee is still notified, often before their HR exit meeting.
If you have a small to mid-size company, especially with employees in several locations, TriNet is a great way to get top-notch health benefits at reasonable rates. It allows you to offer great regional plans, even in areas where you have 1-2 employees. It also makes sure you stay in compliance with all employment laws in whatever state you want to hire in and it gives you the support of an entire HR team.

If you are a company who only has one location, who is only looking for a payroll or simple benefit solution, TriNet would probably not be a cost-effective solution.

We use TriNet as the PEO for our entire company. They manage our payroll (and related taxes and rules), HR, and labor compliance. It enables us to focus on our core business and outsource functions we are not experts at.
  • They are experts at HR, payroll, and labor compliance laws.
  • Their process is streamlined and they are constantly learning and improving
  • They develop and provide user-friendly technology to enable our employees to be self-supported.
  • They offer us benefits as a much larger company to attract the best employees.
  • Over the years, we saw a lot of changes with their account management personnel, and that was our biggest complaint, as we had to bring new people up to speed often.
  • Their 401K plan administration could be improved as it is currently provided by one of their partner first that isn't as customer-focused.
  • Despite their size and negotiating power, their negotiated medical insurance rates have been going up annually considerably.
TriNet is best for growing small to medium-sized businesses that don't have dedicated HR and internal benefits departments. It enables companies to outsource all these functions without losing effectiveness.

TriNet is being used across the whole organization. It is used to address a number of business needs, including employee information tracking, pay and salary, healthcare benefits, paid time off, and important document storage. As a user (and not admin), I use the system to view my employee information and most often will use it to view pay stubs and request time off.
  • Easy to use
  • Great support team
  • Useful app
  • Ability to opt out of COVID newsletters at a user level.
As a user, it's really easy to navigate and use. The navigation on the left-hand side of the portal allows me to quickly identify which category I need to click on to get the information I need. I would recommend it to administrators trying to find an easy HR solution for their teams.

TriNet is used for our payroll and benefits service by the entire organization. TriNet is needed to process the very important payroll for each employee and track the benefits.
  • Send reminders of upcoming actions needed
  • Carefully track needed info on employees
  • Has the best customer support rep, Marlene, who is always ready and willing to help
  • Gets employees paid accurately and on time
  • Reports are extremely difficult to use
  • Reports need to be simplified (can use iSolve as a better example for reports)
  • Benefits options need to be better tailored to organization (too many options in some cases)
TriNet is a full suite; would be great for larger companies needing "everything".

Smaller companies may not need so many options as all options come with a price.

TriNet is Astrolabe's professional employer organization (PEO). We use their services for payroll, benefits, and other HR requirements. As a small company, Astrolabe could not employ our own HR department, and TriNet's services are invaluable.
  • Communicate with staff
  • Support for payroll and benefits
  • Comfortable portal for both company and employees
  • Opaque pricing scheme
I had a chance to interact with TriNet as a company founder and as an employee in two other start-up companies. In all cases, their offering has been above average and their service was cordial, prompt, and efficient. In addition to payroll and benefits, I utilize TriNet on a regular basis to address HR questions, such as the institution of a parental leave policy and for questions regarding challenging hiring choices (such as hiring an American expatriate).

We are a very small non-profit. By using TriNet, we keep our staff level down and gain efficiency and security. During the pandemic, they have provided vital information and resources at no additional charge.
  • Customer service is great. You can always reach the associate assigned to you. If they are not available, there is always someone filling in for them.
  • You can access chat support any time.
  • Information about applying for the PPL loan and for the forgiveness is so appreciated. I mean really! Who has done this before? They created custom reports just for this purpose.
  • Obviously, I'd like the cost to be lower. But, as I said, we'd probably need at least one more staff person without them. I took the time, a lot of time, to compare them for a competitor and TriNet came out on top. I don't even listen to sales pitches anymore.
  • Don't change the website again. Shortly after we started, they overhauled the website. I spent a lot of time learning the first format so I didn't appreciate the overhaul.
We are so small that other similar organizations might not take us. We appreciate the ability to tap into TriNet's buying power for benefits.

It's being used across the entire organization (2 separate divisions) to manage our payroll & tax compliance, manage & track paid time off, and provide our staff competitive and compelling benefits that help us to attract talent.
  • Onboarding new staff is very easy.
  • Offering high-quality benefits is made accessible to smaller companies.
  • Customer Service to date has been outstanding.
  • I'm able to offload a lot of HR-related tasks to TriNet.
  • The user-interface feels outdated and is difficult to navigate.
  • Similarly, the reporting feels like it's designed for someone who's already familiar with HR Standards. It's not great for someone who's running a small company.
  • Additional employee-level functions (like being able to see a custom org chart, contact co-workers, etc) would be welcome.
  • There's not a great process for onboarding a new manager when there are changes in the company.
It's great for small companies like ours or companies where there isn't yet room for a large HR apparatus. I'm particularly a fan of the benefits that are offered, and the peace of mind that comes from knowing there is a much larger organization behind us ensuring that we are compliant with HR laws, both nationally & locally

TriNet is Terrific!

TriNet has helped our organization tremendously as we have utilized it for payroll, performance reviews, a more comprehensive and complete offering of benefits, time off tracking as well as consulting. We do not have a full time HR employee on staff and TriNet helps in answering the many questions we face on a day to day basis. They are there to assist with best practices and guides us constantly through the many questions we have.
  • Communication. Although we are one of the many organizations who benefit from TriNet's services, they make us feel like we are their only client with how quickly and effectively they communicate with us.
  • Benefits. Before moving to TriNet, we were not able to offer the amount of benefits TriNet has to offer for the cost paid.
  • Employee Discounts. While we are a small company, we can still offer employee discounts through the TriNet Market Place for things our employees use every day. (Travel discounts, flowers, electronics, memberships, etc.)
  • Admins should have more access into the visibility of PTO time. Unless assigned as a proxy, I can't see the entire companies time off.
  • Admins should also have the ability to cancel PTO time after it has been approved.
  • Implement an employee reward program. Employees earn points and can use their points to purchase items.
TriNet is well suited for organizations who need that Human Resource support, are big enough they have multiple employees and need direction or an additional resource from a Human Resource professional. TriNet may not be suited for organizations or companies that are too big that they already have their own Human Resource department.

We are using it for our corporate team. It helps us sith processing payroll, benefits, and making sure we stay compliant. For example, we get up-to-date posters from them to comply with the government's notices requirements. We can also ask our representative about specific issues that we've heard about in the news and they give us updates or their take on it.
  • Having a dedicated representative.
  • Payroll processor.
  • Assists with benefits and renewal.
  • If the representative is away, new ones might not always know the situation.
  • General contact email isn't often helpful.
  • The new reports system isn't as good as the one before.
TriNet is good if you're a smaller company and need help with staying compliant, especially if you have offices all over the world. If you have a big company, maybe their services won't be as useful. I believe that certain services offered by TriNet, such as help with remaining compliant, wouldn't be useful if you have an in-house law department or someone that specializes in the legalities surrounding employment.

My accounting team runs payroll via TriNet, and my company offers benefits to employees, including health insurance and 401K, via TriNet. My employees use TriNet's online portal to access and track payroll and benefits information, and they use TriNet's various support services to get questions related to benefits addressed. Essentially, TriNet provides the company with HR expertise and support that we need so that we don't have to build an HR department in-house at this stage.
  • Works seamlessly with our accounting team to run payroll.
  • Employees can easily access and track payroll and benefits info online.
  • Live support services are very good, especially for employees.
  • May be cost prohibitive for some small companies.
TriNet is well suited for a company that has reached a certain size where HR expertise and resources are needed, but has *not* yet reached a size where building its own HR department is feasible. After we reviewed several PEOs carefully, TriNet stood out as the best-combined HR and benefits management solution, especially for a company like ours with employees in multiple states. It is a bit more expensive than some other PEOs, so some small companies would not be able to afford TriNet.

TriNet is being used across the entire firm for payroll, commissions, and benefits services. In the past we did not have a solid benefits system that all employees were able to use so this has been a major upgrade for our small investment banking firm. We also had poor accounting management at our previous payroll company and had to continually check up on their work.
  • The ease and ability to edit payroll and create additional payroll entries
  • The interface for users and administrators is very easy to navigate
  • Account managers are always quick to respond to answer questions
  • When we first signed on, the insurance carrier transfers during the fall was a bit difficult for some and could have been given more guidance on that.
  • Wish there were more carrier options for our area for healthcare benefits.
  • Wish the credit threshold for payroll and commissions was higher to avoid doing a separate wire as getting a reverse wire set up with major banks is very difficult.
I guess it really depends on the type of business the person works for, but I would highly recommend TriNet for smaller firms like ours, as they have much more competitive pricing compared to other big PEO names and a great selection of benefits. Also, we like that those we correspond with at TriNet are familiar with our line of work.

At Mercury Capital we use TriNet for all of our benefits and payroll. TriNet is used in our US offices. We love that everything is handled by one group and that we always have our TriNet representative to assist us. TriNet keeps us updated on everything we need to know about benefits for our employees.
  • Response Time
  • Keep us updated on new benefits for employees
  • Coverage
  • Increases in benefits, each year it just goes up a small amount
  • When you dial into the 800 number for assistance, they really want you to speak with your rep but sometimes the rep is busy and we need an answer quickly.
We are very happy with all the services we have with TriNet\. We get calls all the time to change but we feel really comfortable with our benefits and those who assist us.

We use TriNet for payroll, expense reimbursements, and human resources. The accounting department in my office handles it while the employees all have their own logins and can access their paystubs, the marketplace and contact TriNet for anything thy need. TriNet is a one-stop-shop every office needs to have. They make everything easy for our company.
  • Payroll - make a mistake? They can fix it.
  • Human resources - not sure what to do? TriNet has all the answers.
  • Customer service - need help? Your TriNet rep is ALWAYS available.
  • The TriNet Expense app could be more user friendly.
I have never had an issue with TriNet. Everyone from that company is really helpful and knowledgeable. My team specifically is amazing. Let TriNet handle human resources and payroll for you, you will not regret it.

TriNet is the co-employer (PEO) for the company. The "solve" includes the services via the PEO platform.
  • Responsive Payroll, Business Partner and Senior level TriNet staff.
  • Payroll representative is amazing to help find solutions in her wheelhouse.
  • Business Partner works to find solutions and is great at researching answers as needed.
  • Based on years in business, there are a number of PEO functionality and services that are not in place or just starting to be considered. Example: This is our HRIS and TriNet is not positioned to connect with other 3rd party vendors that we use. We either have to manually upload the report to a 3rd party or pay extra for API development. My experience at other companies with a PEO, it is the PEO's role (ie. ADP PEO does this).
  • Legal guidance - (handbook development, legal guidance, org changes guidance) these are services that you have to ask for, hope for, and ultimately use an external counsel. (ADP does this work for you as a co-employer.)
  • Recommend Stratustime - but it is not integrated with TriNet. So we have to manually upload data. This is the time and attendance product and labor-intensive!
  • Resources for TriNet Business partner is challenging for them, so as a client, we have to wait until the TriNet BP can get someone in-house to give them info and directions (Legal, STD info, TriNet platform, etc.).
The best scenarios for TriNet would be small companies with HR leadership that is not aware of what a robust PEO should be providing, seamlessly.

We use TriNet from hiring to someone leaving the company so, for payroll, insurance, benefits, HR support, 401k support, paying taxes in states where we have employees, and lots of smaller things, too.
  • Payroll is easy
  • Offers great health insurance plans and a variety to suite employee needs
  • Are available to answer questions pretty quickly
  • We have to micromanage to ensure that when things deviate from the usual/normal, those things get taken care of correctly.
  • The front line workers tend to not be the best trained so we sometimes have to ask to speak to managers or other people to ensure that the information we receive is correct.
  • TriNet is pretty siloed, so it can be hard to get information from more than one department if there is an issue that spans more than one department (401k issue that needs the 401k team and payroll team to work together as an example).
Overall, TriNet is a good product for benefits and payroll, but not all the best when non-normal issues arise. The benefits are great if you're doing normal day to day business--you're all set. But when complicated matters come up, we have not been very happy with their lack of attention to detail and me having to constantly ask follow-up questions to get answers.

Today, we leverage TriNet as our everything Human Resource platform, including payroll and benefits across the entire organization. Our employees are able to access their payroll documents, inquire about their benefits coverage and overall contributions by ALPFA at the touch of a button. Administratively, we are able to pull reports for PPP applications directly built by Trinet, including standard reports we need for audits and reviews. I just recently went in to see my 401K contributions to date, and even if TriNet is not the provider, TriNet provides a direct link to the service provider so I don't have to go to a different website.
  • Easy to use and navigate platform.
  • Responds to questions quickly.
  • Provides detailed reporting access when needed.
  • Gives guidance on HR issues and concerns.
  • Proactively makes you aware of changes in states where your employees resides.
  • Keeps you in compliance with state employment requirements.
  • When asking for guidance on particular issues, they can be vague.
  • Turn around time can sometimes be slow.
  • Fees go up every year.
It is a one-stop source for all HR needs. We do not have a trained HR person in-house but know we can count on TriNet for all personnel issues, benefits, and retirement, transparency, and reporting. In addition, it is helpful to know that TriNet keeps us in compliance with state filings and regulatory requirements with little help from us.

TriNet is being used for HR support, payroll, and benefits across our US organization. We have also used TriNet from time to time to assist with HR-related questions that have legal implications. In the US, it is used by all our employees. We have also utilized TriNet to assist with some of the COVID-19 related actions that have been required over the last several months.
  • Support during COVID-19 when we required more urgent advice
  • Benefit related support
  • Portal for employees to track payroll and benefit related information
  • Specific support to employees requiring clarity in how they file for unemployment in their state
  • Support is highly dependent on the quality of your representatives. Our current advisor, Becky, has done a very good job but we have had representatives in the past that have not provided proper advice on specific matters, which has resulted in some inefficiencies.
  • Signing into the portal can be more frustrating than it should be.
TriNet, has mostly good representation and assistance but occasionally it can be less than desired.

TriNet and the PEO program we utilize, allows us to manage all of our Human Resources related tasks and gives us the most up-to-date information and guidelines to properly address all aspects of our Human Capital (the most important asset any company has). The reports are utilized by 7 of our 19 employees while 3 of us utilize and manage all of the services on a daily basis. The App, GUI, and web portal are all very user friendly and easy to use but by far the best attribute TriNet has to offer is their customer service and the hands-on assistance provided by the account and relationship managers. The response time is almost immediate in most cases and our support team gets us the right information the first time. We utilize them almost weekly.

Having a smaller headcount and being a small business (especially during the struggles the market can bring), TriNet allows us to manage our company as if we had a full-time HR Manager onsite without the cost and challenges that can often-times bring. The ease of managing payroll, benefits, workers comp, retirement plans, etc. gives us the ability to focus more on our business and growth.
  • Communication. the quality of Human Capital within the TriNet family.
  • Providing current and applicable HR and market information to businesses in many different industries.
  • Reporting information and availability of data that help to analyze all aspects of HR related issues and costs.
  • We recently had an instance of separation from the parent company retirement program and the migration from their platform to a new, stand-alone platform took months longer than expected.
  • The recent change in market/economic conditions has caused a loss of Human Capital within TriNet causing some extended wait times and a slight loss in communication as compared to 4+ months ago.
I have recommended TriNet to multiple colleagues over the past 2+ years. I have been tasked with assisting a new implementation for one of my previous clients within the coming months. I potentially have another prospect within 6-12 months as well. The workload it can remove from your daily/weekly task list is likely much higher than most companies (that handle their payroll and benefits in-house) would expect. The referral they offer is also quite a nice bonus.

TriNet is being used across the US. We have 87 employees currently utilizing TriNet. Because we only have 87 US employees, TriNet allows us to manage payroll and benefits for this region. Additionally, we can use TriNet services to gain additional insight or support, when necessary, on obscure HR issues that come up from time to time.

  • Employee Experience on the App- TriNet's app is very user friendly and has a great layout to provide a good UX.
  • Operations- Alecia J. is full of knowledge to help us and is very quick to follow up and execute requests, which is always appreciated!
  • Benefits- TriNet benefits are a bit tough. The site used to create and compare models in preparation to select a funding strategy is severely outdated and not user friendly. Additionally, for two years running, we have seen increases in our plan rates of 15%+ which is unmanageable in the long term for a smaller company like us.
  • HR Support- In the last year, we have had 3 different HR Partners assigned to us. Two of the three created more problems than they solved and proved to be quite disorganized, unreliable, and lacked the knowledge to support our business effectively. That being said, Whitney M. is supporting us currently and she has been great to work with!
  • Resources for Employees- TriNet has many resources for Employers on how things work, but I've noticed that many times when we request promotional materials for employees, they don't exist (i.e. a flyer for the EAP or tips on utilizing benefits properly, etc.).
TriNet was great when we started out with them 6 years ago. Our HR support was awesome, they solved the issues we had with payroll and benefits administration, and we had a great relationship. Now, we have a good relationship with our Account Manager which has really been part of the reason we've stayed with TriNet, but also we were seeing a decline in the quality of HR support. (This does not include our CURRENT HR Support, Whitney.) The main issue we have with TriNet at this point is the significant increases we are seeing to benefits two years in a row that are based on TriNet's internal "tier system" that is in place. That increase on top of increased administration costs starts to be too much for a smaller business that is essentially a start-up. So, long story short, if a colleague were to ask me if I recommend TriNet, I would say yes, but only if they have a really strong HR Team internally and as long as they recognize that they would have big plan rate increases year over year. (This is especially true for companies with smaller employee populations.)

We have been using TriNet since we started our start-up Jan Medical. For a small start-up TriNet has been a valuable asset. Having access to a large pool of insurance benefits for our group to choose from and processing payroll along with reports has been great.
  • Being able to complete payroll ahead of time and having Trinet grab the information on the date it is due is a great tool. Being a small company sometimes it is difficult to process on the exact day.
  • Having access to our representative to answer HR questions so I do not need to continuously go to updated classes is also valuble.
  • Having the employees have access to online check-stubes and W2 for the entire time they have worked for the company is a benefit.
  • Notices in advance for open enrollment is a benefit for all employees.
  • In almost all cases the response for questions asked and things needed has been quick.
  • I have to deal with management from another state that is one of our investors and at times the questions or items they needed were not able to be answered through Trinet but I do not believe this was Trinet's fault.
  • My consultant/representative is wonderful and very quick to respond and helpful.
It is a must for a small start up. Insurance, payroll, keeping track of everything is absolutely wonderful.

TriNet is used across our entire organization of 15-20 employees. They handle our payroll function - including onboarding new employees, our regular payrolls and employee transitions. They also handle all of our health care benefits program including medical, dental and vision. Finally, they provide us support for major HR issues that we must manage.
  • Payroll.
  • Employee onboarding and termination.
  • Reporting greatly improved.
  • Site search could be improved.
  • Turnover with company representatives.
We use TriNet for our entire team of 15-20 for all of our HR functions. I think they handle payroll well (although it is not always intuitive, it takes some initial training) and benefits. Their reporting functionality has improved greatly and they've done a good job anticipating the needs of their customer base by being proactive in creating reports for the PPP loan program.

TriNet is being used by the entire organization to handle our payroll and benefits. This enables us to focus on our core functions.
  • TriNet sets up our benefits options so that they are easy to understand. This is important because our employees rely on these benefits to keep themselves and their families healthy.
  • Through TriNet, we have access to clear and concise payroll reports that we have used for various purposes.
  • TriNet has helped us facilitate family leave for some of our employees, which alleviated the stress these employees were facing.
  • When our payroll is larger than usual, the process and deadlines for submitting it can be stressful.
  • It would be helpful to be able to talk directly to certain experts that are addressing our questions rather than always having to communicate through our appointed representative.
TriNet is well suited to handle payroll issues and benefits. It may be less appropriate to deal with immigration issues.

We are a small 200-people company headquartered in Germany. We have a unit in the U.S. comprising approx. 10 people. We have no specialist for U.S. HR topics, so we use TriNet for that - mainly for payroll, but also when we need U.S. HR to advise. TriNet also fills out various official forms for us (e.g. maternity disability).
  • Specialised in HR topics
  • Everything can be done online, great system, easy payroll input, great reports, self-service for employees
  • Quick response time to emails
  • Phone number that can be used when calling from outside the U.S. could be provided
TriNet is suitable when a Company, like us, has a unit in the U.S. but no HR person there.
