What is Microsoft Teams?

Microsoft Teams combines video conferencing software with team collaboration tools. The communications platform allows MS Office users to conduct conference calls and share files via SharePoint, and join or initiate a group chat.

Microsoft Teams features three tiers of pricing. The first is a subscription-less, free option that offers the same features as the other two tiers but does not offer administration tools like analytics and access to on-premise servers, or support features like 24/7 phone and web support. The second and third tiers are based on the size of your business and its conferencing needs. Its “Office 365 Business Premium” option starts at $12.50 a month per user, with a required annual commitment, and its “Office 365 E3” option for enterprises starts at $20 a month per user, also with a required annual commitment.

Key Features
Meetings: Meet with teams of 10 or 10,000. Host audio, video, and web conferences with anyone inside or outside your organization or go big with live events.

Calling: Its Phone System feature enables PBX capabilities including call control in Office 365 and replaces on-premises PBX. Its calling features are customizable to fit your organization’s unique needs.

Teams is better and better every day. I still don't think it's to Slack's level but it still has so many great features, especially if you're an existing Office/outlook user. It integrates well with Office 365 applications and also other 3rd party apps.

Microsoft Teams supports planning, through calendar management. The end-to-end encryption from Microsoft Teams increases the program efficiency, as security measures are extensively incorporated. The browser sharing and desktop management have been effectively enacted by Microsoft Teams. Lastly, Microsoft Teams is manageable and works with various software in different scopes.

With the single Office 365 license we needed anyway, we found no further reason to also continue using Webex, Gotomeeting or Zoom (we had a Webex licence for a while). Thankfully, the Microsoft Teams meetings proved to work well and reliable, especially during COVID times, but we were applying them already before. Screen sharing, chat, file sharing work well and performance seems fine in our usage scenarios.

The call quality, user interface, team coordination, recording your meet/training, praising your teammate for their good work are some of the best features which make Microsoft Teams stand first for us at the corporate level. It is very convenient for checking others' calendars while scheduling a meeting unlike other applications in the market.

  • Its integration with MS office is having more advantages over other software.
  • For me, Microsoft Teams has better quality of audio and video against other software.
  • Online file sharing and the edit option is not there in other software.
  • Meeting recording works like a charm

I've used Zoom a lot personally and at my church. It does some things, such as breakout rooms and invitiations, much better. However, it's not good at integrating with calendars, so for that, I like Microsoft Teams better.
I've also used Skype a lot, but I don't use it any longer now that Microsoft Teams and Zoom exist. I know Microsoft bought Skype, so I wonder if they don't support it anymore because they focus on Microsoft Teams. I wish Microsoft Teams integrated better with streaming software such as OBS or made the webinar format more accessible. I'd also like to be able to use it to switch between different cameras, audio sources and perspectives.

  • Zoom
Although by far, Zoom is lagging behind by a lot when compared to Team but still that is the only product which can be compared to teams as it offeres audio/video calls and chat functionalities which are similar to Team. However, teams is far ahead of it since it offere a whole lot of other features such as real time file sharing, sharefile access, access to other applications embedded within teams, group chats etc. which count for the reason as to why my organization selected Teams.

Microsoft Teams essentially has taken over Skype for Business as the replacement all-in-one collaboration tool/platform. It is much more feature rich than Skype for Business, as it offers a lot more standard features that most organizations actually use. The ability to set permissions for different users/groups within Teams gives it a big advantage over Skype for Business, since that platform doesn't offer that.

I don’t prefer Microsoft Teams, compared to its competitors. I am sure part of it is simply that I have less experience with it as a platform. Typically during a meeting, people need to multitask at some point, and Microsoft Teams is the least intuitive of how to navigate/toggle back into the meeting, if someone is presenting.

Microsoft Teams has a survey or research feature, which is a significant source of data collection in the company. Also, Microsoft Teams integrates with different programs, and this brings efficiency and perfection in its role. Finally, there is the search and filtering feature from Microsoft Teams, which ensures no loss of data or time spent when looking for them.

Cisco Jabber is not as adaptable as the Microsoft Teams. The teams that are created in jabber are automatically removed when the application is restarted, but the groups that are created in teams are available for the duration of the application. When compared to teams, Jabber's screen sharing feature is sluggish. With jabber, the call option is not open. Jabber does not support the definition of networks.

The only reason of use of Microsoft Teams was its price, which was smaller that the price of competitors. But despite the lower price, Microsoft Teams supports fewer functions and provides less quality.

Microsoft Teams is being widely used by corporate clients and they feel comfortable using this. As we are the pioneer of tourism in BD, we moved to the smartest collaboration tool of all time which ensures data security and integrity. In Google Hangouts Meet, there were some issues that are not in Teams. User-friendly nature and its integration with MS Office 365 made our life very easy.

What we have used all these similar product for is collaboration, communication, and file sharing. Instead of using Zoom and Webex, we have consolidated communication on Microsoft Teams. I personally find Microsoft Teams much easier to use and better when it comes to collaborating and file sharing. Also, the integration with other Microsoft and non-Microsoft apps and ecosystems is amazing.

We have used Slack, Skype for Business, Zoom, WebEx and many other tools in the past. Each tool had a quirk and either did not scale well or was good at just one thing. Teams combines collaboration, chat, communication in one powerful tool. That has enabled us to reduce the number of tools being deployed and used.

I think Microsoft Teams would win against both of them because Microsoft Teams has many features like having Channels, Conducting Webinars, Scheduling Meetings, Organizing your Calendar, and Integrated seamlessly with Outlook Calendar, Also you can Conduct Webinars and Large Meetings, and also it has [a] better user experience.

Teams is a natural evolution from a lot of Microsoft tools, mainly the communication ones (like Communicator, Lync, Skype for Business). It also integrated some features from other tools, like the ability to manage and share files from SharePoint sites.
From what I know, Teams is the only platform with such options and integrations.

We used a very old version of Lifesize. Microsoft Teams is more modern, so this is not really a fair comparison. Teams does the same and so much more! Again, being part of the Office 365 E3 offering meant we had it available anyway.

I believe that Microsoft Teams offers greater stability than Skype for Business. Additionally, there are more integrated functions with Microsoft Teams, which helps to maintain focus on a task because you have to switch applications less often. One aspect that I think is lacking (when compared to Skype for Business) is the ability to search for phone numbers. I used that feature quite often, especially if my phone rang and did not show a name. I could then quickly search for the number in Skype, and it would tell me who called me based on the Address Book search.
