We use TriNet for payroll, benefits and workers' comp for all employees. Being a small company, it helps us provide benefits to employees.
  • New interface.
  • Our contact Staci is great.
  • Allows us to provide competitive benefits.
  • Handles state regulations, workers' comp, etc.
  • I would love to add our contractors to give us a single way to pay everyone. However, contractors are the same price as employees but with little of the benefits. The increased cost doesn’t make sense for us.
  • Not being able to see a comparison of the health benefits with cost before actually going through the process.
  • Rates went up this year.
  • I wish someone there could actually run payroll for us. Or at least offer “approved third-party partners” to do so.
Suited to startups and small businesses.

We use Trinet for payroll and HR services for our US subsidiary. I’m the main point of contact for our US employees and we intend to scale up in the US which is why we chose Trinet.
  • Provides a personal feel and treatment although it's a big corporation. They allocated a client support rep that speaks our language to assist with the ongoing issues and questions
  • Highly professional employees.
  • Keeps us compliant by following up to make sure we don’t miss any deadline.
  • Feels a bit expensive for our use case.
  • Changed personnel more than once since we joined the service.
As a foreign company, Trinet fits great with US payroll and compliance.

We use TriNet to manage our US operations. It helps manage payroll, personnel records, benefits and tax records.
  • HR advice and guidance - It's great to have a team to bounce ideas off and get advice. The legal escalation team is also very helpful when complex issues arise.
  • Payroll - even the most complex payroll questions can be easily answered by the TriNet team.
  • Benefits - the range of carriers gives employees a wide range of options and price points to chose from.
  • Unemployment claims - TriNet makes handling unemployment claims simple.
  • The software is very clunky and outdated. They're working with a lot of legacy code that's bad and they're piling new stuff on top. I'd rather see them create something new and launch it at one time rather than all this piled on top of old code nonsense. It's too unstable and frustratingly difficult to use.
  • Some company reps aren't as knowledgeable as others so you've got to know who to talk to otherwise you could be working with bad information.
If a company has less than 50 employees I always recommend a PEO like TriNet, particularly if they have young/green management and employees with shared HR responsibilities.

TriNet is used across our whole organization. It serves as our HR and payroll platform, making it easier to track employees' pay, time off, and providing an easy way to organize and process business information through TriNet Reports. Moreover, TriNet is really valued for making the process of providing tax information easier.
  • Information display -- allowing employees to have easy access to their PTO and pay status.
  • User friendliness -- TriNet is extremely intuitive and easy to navigate.
  • Customer Support -- Support on TriNet always seems very quick and responsive, and they maintain a professional and friendly attitude.
  • TriNet has sometimes muddled up PTO hours for our employees. For example, Leave Without Pay would sometimes count towards employees' PTO hours even though, by definition, employees are not getting paid for this time off.
Well suited: Big organizations that need a comprehensive HR platform that tracks employees' overall performance and time off.
Less well suited: Small organizations such as startups that have many different moving parts, and with a structure that doesn't exactly fit nicely into the structure that TriNet has built for more well-developed companies.

We use Trinet across our organization because we do not have an in-house HR department.
  • TriNet does a good job of communicating local employment law and policy changes.
  • TriNet offers HR-related webinars that are relevant and full of good, useful content.
  • TriNet is responsive to feedback from its clients. We appreciate the attention that has been given and the efforts to resolve any issues our company has experienced. We have found Trinet to be very committed to client satisfaction.
  • TriNet's employee website has evolved into a useful tool for finding HR and payroll-related information.
  • I appreciate the availability of the in-house counsel to provide general feedback on legal questions. It doesn't replace our own lawyer but it is a great starting point to have.
  • TriNet's benefits tool has improved recently and lays out the financial implications of company options during open enrollment in a way that facilitates management's decisions.
  • I would like to see better formatted accounting reports for the monthly payroll.
  • One-on-one website training would be helpful. Once I find areas of the website they tend to be useful, but that doesn't help until I know they are there.
  • We have experienced some back-end issues. Some have been resolved quickly, but others seem to take longer than necessary to resolve. For example, one issue took 10 months to resolve and there wasn't proactive communication about the status over that period.
I wholeheartedly recommend TriNet if someone is looking for a full-service solution. For anyone looking for less than this, I feel the price could be an issue. And from first-hand experience, I know a client's satisfaction is going to vary a lot depending on their account associate. We are lucky to have a fantastic one at the moment who I would recommend without hesitation.

TriNet is used as the payroll/HRIS system at the company I am consulting for. The main issue is that it doesn't have the capability to onboard international employees, so SuitePeople must be used alongside as the "voice of truth" for company-wide demographics
  • The platform is easy to use -- employees rarely have questions about where to find personal documents. It limits the time HR has to train or retrain employees.
  • Customer service -- fairly easy to get responses when we have a question or concern about an issue.
  • Advise on legal issues -- limits the time we need to bring our employment lawyers in for LOA and FMLA cases. Nice to have another opinion if we do.
  • The capability to pull international employees in.
  • A chat window on trinet.com to get help during the day for quick questions.
For small to medium-size companies in the US, it is perfect. For companies with large international presence, it may be cumbersome to use two systems.

We utilize TriNet as our PEO. It is used firm-wide. I mainly use their services for financial reporting purposes, but also on a personal level for my paychecks.
  • The app is very user-friendly.
  • The normal payroll process can be self-administrated and is relatively straightforward to process.
  • The standard reporting is good, the custom reporting could use some improvement.
  • The client service has not been very strong. Our dedicated rep seems unorganized, and often the turnaround time for requests is slow. As a facilitator, they do not add a ton of value.
I believe it is a good solution for small businesses where there is little to no HR department.
I think medium size firms with an HR staff can find more cost-effective solutions.

TriNet is being used across the whole organization. We manage most HR functions (payroll, time off, benefits, etc.) via TriNet.
  • Payroll.
  • Entering new hires.
  • Day-to-day support.
  • Access to benefits information during the off-season. Employees often want to view plan comparisons, but don't have access to them outside of open enrollment season.
  • Information on various terminology like job codes, leave codes, legal classifications, etc. Some sort of dictionary/glossary would be helpful.
  • Bugs with vacation accrual. There have been several times where accrual dashboards are inaccurate for employees.
TriNet is great for basic HR management. My experience with TriNet has varied depending on the representative assigned to me. I've had representatives in the past who were not very responsive or knowledgeable, but I now work with representatives who are extremely responsive and knowledgeable, which has made my and my organization's experience with TriNet much more enjoyable and helpful.

We specifically use Trinet for payroll and benefits. The Health Benefits and the additional items such as Vision, Dental and the option to start a 401K were important factors as to why we chose Trinet. As a small company, it is hard to find Health Benefits at reasonable prices. We also like the one-stop shopping aspect.
  • Trinet has a great accessible online product. I like the fact that I can enter my own information to onboard employees, process payroll and be able to access all aspects of it at any time.
  • Trinet assigns you a representative that can answer any and all of your questions and our representative has always been accessible and if not she calls you right back. You do not get switched around to multiple people for different questions.
  • Trinet offers an array of products for your employees as well as workers compensation for the company. Being able to manage all of these products along with payroll is a huge plus for us.
  • Choosing benefits each year for our company is a bit confusing the way you have to go about it. I would like to see a more streamlined solution.
  • Reports for upcoming payroll cannot be accessed until after the pay date. I would like to have the invoice and the backup reports accessible once you have finalized payroll so when I receive the email on how much you will deduct from our account I can also see the backup to assure everything is correct.
Just because of cost, I think Trinet is better suited to the medium to larger companies. For a small company the per person per payroll cost is quite significant. As a smaller company we do not use any of the human resource side but we obviously pay for that in the per person per payroll cost. But because as a smaller company we are able to get a decent cost on Health insurance per employee we are managing to cover the cost of the per person per payroll fee currently.

Trinet is used by our company for all HR functions. It addresses our needs for payroll processing, benefits manager, and overall HR advice.
  • Payroll processing.
  • Benefits offerings for employees.
  • Availability to employee needs.
  • The on boarding process is quite cumbersome and time-consuming for small companies with no HR departments.
  • The overall amount of benefits structures available can seem daunting for small employers to narrow down.
  • The previous dashboard was complicated but Trinet's new interface is much easier to use. Still requires some time to get used to. Provides perhaps more functions than needed for a small business.
Any company that cannot afford a full HR department or payroll processing should use Trinet's service. Midsize corporations after 100 employees can probably maximize the full range of benefits with a HR department head.

TriNet is being used by our small company (2 employees total) primarily for access to health insurance. It is cheaper for us to receive health insurance through TriNet than through the healthcare exchange. Also, we receive better health insurance going through TriNet than the healthcare exchange. The healthcare exchange in Arizona only gave us one insurance company to choose from.
  • Providing very good health insurance.
  • Fast response to support questions.
  • Lots of reporting options.
  • Difficult/complicated to manage payroll/W2 reporting in boxes.
  • Expensive for a very small company.
  • Did not make it clear to me that I had to change/manage payroll/W2 reporting in boxes. I sent emails but nothing was revised.

TriNet is being used as our HRIS and Payroll system. The biggest help is having benefits being part of the PEO experience.
  • The TriNet portal makes it easy for HR to enter their own employee life cycle changes.
  • TriNet helps with the open enrollment process and coming onsite to educate employees regarding benefits.
  • Although I am an experienced HR professional myself, it always helps to have someone else in HR to consult with before making certain employee decisions about discipline or termination. It helps to have someone to talk to before moving forward to ensure we are in alignment and making the best decision.
  • I would like to see more user guides for the HR Administrators.
  • I think open enrollment could be better if TriNet generated a menu of the benefit plans for easier comparison every year and not just upon initial setup/implementation.
  • Mobile App for Performance Management
Overall, I am happy with TriNet and would recommend to a colleague. Seeing the things I recommended on the cons list implemented would have me increase my rating to a ten.

TriNet is our company's HR solution for payroll, benefits, compliance, and policies.
  • Was helpful when we were looking to hire in terms of providing a benefits summary to the applicant. It helped our small firm to look professional and organized to the applicant.
  • Very responsive when we have questions regarding payroll or policies. We often need quick answers to make business decisions, so this is very helpful.
  • The onboarding to the TriNet system last year was very efficient and fast. The sales representative did well getting us prepared in terms of the documentation we would need to provide, and the transition to the onboarding TriNet staff was seamless and caused no disruption to our business startup. We were able to focus on starting our business instead of worrying about all of the HR issues involved with getting started.
  • The summary benefits package that we requested for our potential applicant had errors on the first couple of reports and had to be corrected prior to us sending out to the applicant. The wrong insurance coverage was reported and thankfully we caught it before it went out. Accuracy is very important, so perhaps some additional training is warranted.
It is well suited for a small company that wants to focus on its business instead of HR compliance and details. The cost/benefit makes much more sense for smaller firms who do not want to add a part-time or FTE for payroll and HR functions.

All human resources and payroll [functions] are managed with TriNet.
  • Payroll processing is very easy.
  • On-boarding a new employee is very straightforward and the TriNet process makes sure everything is completed timely.
  • It is easy to reach somebody at TriNet when I have a question or need assistance.
  • When Monday is a holiday, I have to enter payroll hours before people have clocked out on Friday. I understand the timeline is compressed but I would like to be able to enter payroll at end of day Friday or over the weekend.
  • We use an insurance product presented to us by TriNet (OptiMed) and, for some reason, TriNet does not administer that product; I have to manage it.
We switched to TriNet from another PEO and I am very pleased. We are saving money and getting better service.

We are using TriNet for payroll and benefits across my whole company. As a small company, it was difficult to manage payroll and employee benefits internally. Trinet had the solution to this in one simple platform, and it basically pays for itself in the savings we get from the group health insurance.
  • Easy to use payroll processing via the TriNet portal.
  • Great service, we are assigned an HR person to handle all of our employee inquiries.
  • The platform is a one-stop shop for all employee questions about payroll and benefits, which saves me a ton of time over trying to do it all internally.
  • Sometimes navigation around the site, or finding particular reports, is a bit cumbersome.
For a small company like mine, healthcare costs became a major expense. Trinet was able to provide great rates and coverage for my employees for far less cost than before. The fact that they also handle the payroll is icing on the cake. The service TriNet provides literally pays for itself through the group healthcare savings alone. Using TriNet is a no brainer for any company who is having a difficult time managing payroll AND providing health insurance to its employees.

PCE uses TriNet for the entire organization. It has been very useful in handing annual benefits open enrollment, managing payroll and administering benefits. We save time by having TriNet address employee benefits issues. It also allows us to offer more benefit level options to employees.
  • TriNet provides many benefit options at affordable prices, especially for smaller companies. Employees have been pleased with the options.
  • TriNet handles our state payroll taxes, which has been very helpful to not have to worry about setting up new accounts each time we open an office in a different state.
  • The employee portal is great for employees to see their pay information, collect their W-2s and adjust their contributions. No longer must these things filter through the admin staff.
  • More personalized assistance with the annual open enrollments process. I liked when we had a dedicated human resource person to call with questions. The system for entering the new benefit elections on the admin side is somewhat confusing.
  • In the past, our account coordinator has been difficult (or perhaps did not have adequate training). Recently, our new coordinator has been great. Seems like steps have been taken to route emails to someone else when the main contact is out of office.
  • We had a difficult time implementing a new PTO accrual system. It took months to get it straight.
I think the biggest advantage is access to affordable benefit options for smaller companies. Streamlined admin tasks is also a wonderful advantage.

Akari uses TriNet for its payroll, HR, Health Benefits and 401k plan. We like using Trinet (or PEO) since it enables us to have all these services bundled together and not use 3 different companies. Plus the service is outstanding.
  • Great customer service.
  • Knowledgeable of industry trends.
  • They make my job easier by providing great products all in one place.
  • The new website is hard to follow.
  • New website differentiates the admin functions I require and my personal ones. The old site let me see all of them in one place.

We use TriNet for our entire organization. It solves the issue of multi-state payroll and taxes, and provides excellent reports for accounting purposes.
  • We have a dedicated Rep, who is very responsive to our requests and questions.
  • Since about half of our associates work from home in other states, TriNet has an entire team that handles those payroll taxes for all of the States.
  • The savings that we experience with TriNet's buying power for our benefits is unbeatable.
  • We would love to see them expand some of the reporting features.
  • We wish the fees for unplanned transactions was not so high. It's not always possible to have everything in the system by a deadline, and we get hit with fees for anything that's not scheduled.
  • We wish we had more input as to our open enrollment date. We do not get to choose this.
I feel it's best suited for medium-sized companies like ours. Any company that doesn't want the expense of an entire HR department, but has complex needs, would be well suited for TriNet services.

TriNet is used for benefits administration, payroll, workers comp, and overall HR strategy.
  • Payroll -- ease of use
  • Benefits -- robust choices
  • Compliance -- always ahead of the curve to stay compliant with HR laws
  • UX/UI could use an update (Most of my team has made this comment to me)
  • Allow contractors to have some light functionality (compliance videos)
  • More HR related training opportunities for appropriate people in HR departments
TriNet is great when you want a more robust benefits offering for employees, as well as assistance around HR compliance. Not sure at what point it becomes less appropriate, but I think at a certain size, you may need an internal department to manage all these functions.

TriNet is used for payroll and benefits by this organization. Payroll salaries are produced for our employees along with showing their benefits for the period.
  • TriNet is very good about reminders for inputting payroll.
  • TriNet has extremely helpful customer service.
  • TriNet is reliable on getting employee salaries accurate and deposited.
  • Payroll reports are disjointed.
  • Payroll preview may or may not work.
  • Finding appropriate employee information can be a challenge.

A very small organization would probably be overwhelmed by TriNet.

Our company uses TriNet for all our US Employees. We utilize the payroll, benefit and HR services. As a smaller company we have a PEO relationship to help manage benefit costs as well as the ever changing legal and compliance landscape of human resources in the United States. It is important to us that with employees in multiple states we are compliant to all laws and regulations and TriNet helps us do that.
  • Last year TriNet launched a new website and it has definitely made a difference. It is much easier to navigate the site now and find what you need both as an Admin or an Employee.
  • TriNet also provides a suite of benefits and services that is helpful for small companies with a 1-2 person HR team.
  • TriNet is always open to hearing our feedback. One area that we would like to see improved is the overlap of a new hire and a pay cycle closing. We have to remember to make sure that an employee gets paid via a special payroll if they started after a pay cycle has already closed.
As I mentioned before, I think that TriNet provides a number of benefits to small companies who want to be as competitive with large companies as they can. Better benefits for small companies through the PEO relationship, compliance support for companies with employees in multiple states, an advisor to ensure compliance around hiring and firing and an endless number of reports.

It is used for our entire organization for payroll, HR and benefits
  • Payroll support - they are very receptive to complicated issues and remedies when errors are made
  • HR support is excellent in managing terminations to minimize legal exposure
  • They are very timely in response to questions or concerns
  • There are none of these. Our only challenge is using any entirely web based system as some of our employees to do not have either (a) a good command of the English language or (b) computer skills
I believe that it is probably very well suited to larger companies. Ours is small so much of the programing that Tri-Net offers, for example in training, is under utilized by our very few managers.

Our entire organization uses TriNet to access our Employee Policies, Holidays, view paystubs, request time-off, elect benefits, update their mailing address, and fill out tax forms.
  • Mobile app is useful for my employees to see their paystubs.
  • I like my 2 designated TriNet reps to help me (HR Dir) when needed (with employee status changes or more complicated issues like drafting a separation agreement for me).
  • The benefit rates for employees are very competitive since TriNet's population is so vast (my company is in a co-employer relationship with TriNet; PEO, professional employer organization. A bigger pool results in lower overall premiums.
  • The system should make "rehire" available. Currently any re-hire has to be completely re-entered, manually, as if they were a new hire. I really wish "re-hire" was a function; even if it just captured basic data like name, address, DOB, SSN.
Because of TriNet, my company does not employ a payroll specialist -- we have TriNet. Because of TriNet, my company does not employ a benefits specialist -- we have TriNet. I am the sole HR employee and rely on TriNet for all transactional payroll & benefit needs; it frees me up to be able to contribute people strategies for my company (employee relations, performance management, employee training, organizational development, employee engagement, etc).

We are a completely distributed professional services company with employees in about 20 states. This is a very generous company and we pay 100% of medical and related benefits for our employees and their dependents. As we started growing, the two issues we could easily see spiraling out of control were compliance and costs. We interviewed several PEOs and ultimately decided on TriNet because the medical, etc. insurances were nationwide and there were significant savings on our premiums. As far as compliance, it's hard enough to keep up on requirements in one state, never mind multiple. It would have been impossible.

It was difficult at first. As a co-employer, TriNet had requirements of their own which were not a perfect fit with our culture. Adjustments on both sides were required and now things seem to be going smoothly. The people I work with always respond promptly to my questions and help me out when I've made an error. I have little experience with TriNet support but rarely am informed of a problem experienced by one of our team. We have come to rely on TriNet heavily in several areas.
  • It's difficult because they take care of so many things I never see, e.g., tracking taxes for people in so many different states
  • The customer facing people are very responsive
  • They have considerable expertise with immigration, including providing excellent legal representation.
  • The beta site was released prematurely and by the time I was forced to use it, I had very low expectations. I like it very much now.
  • It's difficult to find somethings on the new platform for the administrator. Not sure about individuals because I don't go to my own very often. For example, finding where retirement information goes. A case of you can't find it unless you've been there before.
It's perfect for a company that is too small to have departments for every function. I can't remember how many employees we had when we started with TriNet - I think about 40. We are 60 now. I anticipate TriNet fulfilling more and more of our needs as we continue to grow.
