Companies can't remove reviews or game the system. Here's why

We are a small company with under 50 employees. We use TriNet to manage our employees and conduct payroll. It has upped our game in our ability to stay organized, stay up to date with compliance and make sure that our employees are supported and receiving their full benefits. I primarily focus on payroll and it’s been a game changer.
  • Customer support
  • Time card and payroll cohesion
  • Their app
  • Their time card feature can be a bit glitchy. We’ve had numerous employees struggle with it.
  • Their system isn’t always intuitive. Trying to learn a new skill can be time consuming and it’s not always clear what the next step would be. A directory or learning center for processes would be great.
  • The wing is great but we need more challenges!
Costs can be super high and I’ve had situations where we are being charged a large fee for an issue that could have been resolved with better communication. So I just don’t know if I could recommend this to a smaller company as the over head and associated fees would just not be practical.

We use Trinet for our payroll processing, Medical and Dental Benefits, 401K, and HR for assistance. I have been with my company for over 4 years and the company has been using Trinet since 2016. The online processing is simple along with the onboarding of new employees. Of all the payroll companies I have used in other jobs this one is simple and straightforward. They answer questions as they arise. Very professional with their clients. Trinet being a PEO company is best to use as the HR laws are cumbersome and keep changing. They have all the tools we need available to use. They take care of the taxes and reporting. Their reports are simple to use and during PPP they had sample reports to use and enter our information. They keep their clients apprised of new laws or changes for HR or Payroll.
  • Payroll processing
  • Communication via email with their clients
  • payroll reports
  • Benefit process
  • onboarding new hire
  • Vacation and sick leave tracking etc
  • To have some reports readily available like SOC
  • Workers comp reporting to have access in the reports
  • Cobra information if former employees opt-in having that information available in the reports section would help
Their platform is simple to use and user-friendly. Administrators have access to employee info which is good. All reports are in the reports section and you can customize the reports to fit your payroll periods and what you want to see on the reports. They have custom reports you can build your own. I have not tried it yet. It can integrate with your accounting software depending on which one you use. Yet it will not work for all clients if they have more than one Chart of account numbers for their payroll in their accounting system. So having that to work for clients on how they break down their payroll in the system would be helpful, for example, expenses. In payroll, it is entered as 1 number, but that one number in the expense report employees submit tends to be broken down to more than one Chart of Account. So that integration with clients' accounting software would not help.

We are a small startup with a team of around ten employees. TriNet offers incredible support and tools for us to provide to our employees. We are able to get the help we need when we need it. We are also able to understand what is considered competitive in benefit markets. The only downside is the platform is quite expensive compared to others that offer the same or better
  • Benefits
  • Support
  • User-friendly Platform
  • Price
  • not including 401k in the high prices
Prior to me being in my position and managing our TriNet site, the person in my position failed to properly document the relocation of an employee from one state to another. TriNet was very responsive whenever I brought it to their attention to get it handled. However, once they recognised the issue, it took months for the resolution to occur

They are the company who is our workers comp carrier so they are our payroll company and handle all our payroll and employee information.
  • We do not have to do workers comp audits
  • They pay the payroll taxes
  • Letting us get the w2 at the end of the year so we can give them to the employees instead of waiting until January 31 to put them in the mail our employees do not like to wait that long. It is a stupid issue with this company
  • Like today I could not sign on something is wrong and i need to access the site and i can not and there is no one there to help this sucks I have to wait for some to come in at 9:00 am to help me. Just wrong
  • quit with the diversity bull shit
  • i have an awful time entering a new employee into the system sometimes it takes weeks
  • the connect360 is worthless we should have 1 person who knows about trient and us not 50 million people who know nothing
They do my new employee input only it takes at least 5 days before the new employee is entered into the system but lately it was 2 days which is still too long. Our employees do not want others to know the information and wishes i could do the whole employee thing without going through this people.

We use TriNet for our benefits and payroll. They were able to provide excellent customer service not only for our employees but also as back end users. The team have become an extended payroll and HR team. We have been able to offer so many benefits options not only for our headquarters in California but also for our remote employees as well seen up to 30% savings on our benefits costs year over year.
  • Helped us to transition smoothly from a private insurance model to a PEO
  • Saved us money on our benefits offerings and created a seamless on boarding process.
  • Once you are assigned to Payroll contact they are extremely responsive.
  • The sales team was fantastic Moorim Kim (especially) as she stayed close with us as we transitioned to ensure a smooth process.
  • The only feedback I can provide is that we are not able to expand in Montreal, Canada (where my second office location). So hard that we can not have the same site for both offices. This is not because of the team trying but a payroll issues that prevent us from moving forward (thank Dylan for all your help).
I am always suggesting that TriNet is such a great platform for payroll and benefits with excellent customer service.

TriNet is great - they are also able to help you set up all the states you're not currently in. Customer services and having 3 points of contact is also very helpful. Great turnaround time with escalations, as well. Very helpful and communicative with all-things Compliance.
  • State registrations
  • Payroll compliance
  • Health Benefits
  • Communication
  • State, federal, etc compliance
  • Customer Service and availability
  • Consultation
  • Referrals out to partners/trusted vendors
  • All of the training and 101 classes you can take
  • Micro-sites
  • Updating knowledge-base center for compliance-related things for new-hires
  • More customized levels of permission
  • Integrating and automating Birthday and Work Anniversary emails (Gusto has this and we really liked it)
  • Integration with Guideline and/or 3rd party vendors
Definitely well-suited for remote companies who are set up in many different states and want to remove the admin burden of registering, paying taxes, reconciling, etc.
Well-suited for small companies who don't have the time or headcount to manage all of the compliance pieces in all of the different states you're in. Also great for someone who transitions or absorbs HR duties, due to all of the classes that you can take.
TriNet is a more long-term solution with scaling in mind.

Not well suited for companies who are in just a couple states.

Makes payroll and benefits super easy for a small company (and handles all tax issues). We've used other providers in the past, and none are as user friendly.
  • Handle all state tax / state tax forms / state tax registrations
  • Explaining benefits options
  • The portal is really clunky - it opens multiple browser windows, you can't always go back. Just a really bad user experience on the site
When you need a vendor to handle all payroll, benefits, and tax and make it really easy for the business owner, TriNet is great.

It is expensive though, and not appropriate if you are big enough to support yourself.

As our HR dept payroll and related taxes, employee benefits programs, workers comp insurance regulations.
  • Payroll and payroll taxes.
  • Providing employee benefits and managing them throughout the year.
  • I am challenged finding some payroll reports.
Essential for small companies that can't employ HR managers and handle all the records and withholding taxes.

I used TriNet primarily for HR resources as well as to access my pay stubs, timesheets, W2s, and tax forms. TriNet was the single source for accessing all of these documents in one place and having HR related questions answered. Furthermore, when I moved to a new company, I was still able to log in to TriNet and access my past tax docs and W2s. I loved the fact that all of my information was securely stored whenever I needed to access it in the future.
  • One stop shop for company HR links, FAQs and personal information.
  • Secure login that stores personal data in your account for later use.
  • Access to W2s, tax forms, pay stubs, timesheet with user-friendly navigation.
  • I had to use a separate platform for my 401k account.
  • I was able to access previous years' W2s but past pay stubs may have disappeared.
  • No other issues.
TriNet worked best for me whenever I needed to quickly access HR docs for personal and financial use. The site was user-friendly and I rarely ran into glitches. The best part is that it seems to be 100% safe and secured for storing personal information. I only wished that all of the company and employee-related programs were in one place such as Rippling. I would have preferred my 401k access in TriNet as well.

Perfect for New Hires

Score 9 out of 10
Vetted Review

My current company uses TriNet across the organization as a hub for information on employee benefits, company information, paychecks/pay dates, and training courses among other various features. As a recently onboarded employee, TriNet was used to review new hire documentation as well as fill out the necessary government documentation needed for a new job. This platform presents "tasks" to the employee to be completed and marks what has been done, what needs to be done, and what is still in a pending status.
  • TriNet outlines necessary tasks that are due and need to be completed within a necessary timeframe.
  • There is a chat feature that assists with any questions that might arise while using the site.
  • When signing up for benefits, it is easy to view and compare the different benefit packages and how they differ from one another in regards to the perks and monetary differences.
  • The benefits listed are more of an outlined breakdown with the facts about each package and monetary numbers. It might be more helpful to give a more detailed description of each plan and in which situation this would work for the employee.
Though I have only used TriNet for a short time so far, I would say that it is extremely user friendly and is appropriate for employees of a company in any given situation; whether that be they have been recently onboarded or have been with the company for a few years.

HR questions, payroll, and insurance across the whole organization. TriNet addresses those three things.
  • Communication for questions I have, specifically on an administrative level.
  • The variety and choice of health insurance.
  • The website platform is informative and useful.
  • Maybe on the website it would be helpful for the employee to be able to know who to contact, and for what, right away instead of trying to search for it
  • The pop-ups for reports, and when I go to other pages, I don't love.
It's perfect for not having in house HR and getting better insurance rates, although it's still a little pricey.

We utilize TriNet for HR Solutions - they provide our company with benefits, HR/employee relations support, payroll services, worker's compensation, etc. We utilize the HR Passport solution and love it. Every employee is able to access HR Passport for earnings statements, benefit information, leave requests, time card entry - single sign on, easy to use, mostly paper free. HR and Accounting utilize it for payroll, reporting, etc.
  • Their HR Passport platform is great - very easy to use- our employees love it. Single sign on everything in one place for employees.
  • TriNet manages our leaves of absences very well. Takes on the administrative burden of providing proper notification to employees and tracking of leaves
  • Benefits - TriNet allows us to offer a wide variety of benefit options - as a smaller organization we would be limited to just a few medical choices, but with TriNet our employees are given the choice of 14 plans with 2 carriers. TriNet handles the new enrollment process (all online) as well as the open enrollment process.
  • Proactive communication when a process changes. Sometime we find out that a process has changed when we try to do something, but not before.
  • On the payroll side, there are times where they don't follow the instructions we request in the notes. Thankfully, we ask for a payroll register/pre process to review prior to approval which allows us to correct errors prior to processing.
  • In December they changed from a relationship model (you have a specific representative) to a 360 model (you submit an email, call or chat) for assistance. The response times were not good. They have since changed us back to a relationship model which was much appreciated.
TriNet is well suited for a smaller organization - the support they provide is really quite good.

If an organization has their own special benefits plans, i.e. deferred compensation that TriNet didn't "write," sometimes it can be a bit cumbersome to implement within the TriNet system.

We used TriNet to manage our payroll & benefits for the entire company. It provides support for a small company like us to easily manage payroll and distribute benefits, as well as assist in any HR problems/questions that may arise.
  • Payroll.
  • Compliance.
  • Benefits.
  • We used to be provided a dedicated account manager who always responded in a timely manner. Now you go through a general support line, sometimes responses can be a little slow.

We are a small company, so TriNet is being used by only 2 people: 1 from HR and 1 from Finance. We currently use it for payroll, benefits, and government compliance. For a small company that has a small team of HR and Finance, we are able to outsource the tasks that would enable our company to provide benefits to our full-time employees. In addition, TriNet is a well-known company with years of experience, so we know our data is in good hands.
  • Help HR and Finance teams at small companies operate more efficiently.
  • Able to compete with bigger companies in term of offerings of benefits to employees.
  • Wonderful customer service experience.
  • Recently switched from person point-of-contact to chat with a random representative. For a small company like us, we appreciate having a go-to person.
Companies with small HR team should definitely get TriNet to support their operations, and enable the company to be competitive in offering benefits to potential hires.

With support option moving from one representative at TriNet to having chats with random strangers, sometimes it feels like we're shouting our pressing matters into the void.

We use Trinet to manage payroll, benefits, and HR for all employees in the company.
  • User friendly interface
  • Many benefit choices
  • Customer service is responsive and knowledgable
  • Prices are high
  • Many payroll functions are initially hard to figure out

It's used across the entire organization. TriNet addresses primarily payroll and benefits needs, but there are many other features that we use and find helpful. For example, I-9 completion and retention, training needs (e.g. mandatory sexual harassment prevention), legally required notices, posters and forms, and other compliance tools. It's great to have access to a representative who can help with questions regarding involuntary separation and other sensitive situations. Lastly, we have used the COVID-19 resource site quite a bit. It contains relevant information about everything from new laws enacted after COVID-19 started to useful return to work tips.
  • One portal gives access to everything.
  • Quick followup by support.
  • Easy to navigate website.
  • Training etc. is easily available to employees.
  • The process of putting an employee on LOA is tricky because of the coordination of pay between the company and different types of disability and other benefits. We didn't get much help in calculating this, so a calculator of sorts would be nice.
  • Setting up vacation and sick leave plans was also a bit cumbersome with weird spreadsheets to fill out.
  • I would like to see legally required notices, posters etc in a much more easy to find place. I still have not been able to locate all required new hire and termination notices on the site, just some of them.
TriNet is very well suited to small and medium-sized companies with a small or non-existing HR department. They can help not only with the basic payroll and benefits processing, but also with advice when it comes to employee separations and other situations. They also help eliminate paper with all enrollment, I-9 processing etc. online. Moreover, records are also kept online. In fact, TriNet makes it so easy, many smaller organizations could have HR run by an office manager, or an accountant.

We are using it for our corporate team. It helps us sith processing payroll, benefits, and making sure we stay compliant. For example, we get up-to-date posters from them to comply with the government's notices requirements. We can also ask our representative about specific issues that we've heard about in the news and they give us updates or their take on it.
  • Having a dedicated representative.
  • Payroll processor.
  • Assists with benefits and renewal.
  • If the representative is away, new ones might not always know the situation.
  • General contact email isn't often helpful.
  • The new reports system isn't as good as the one before.
TriNet is good if you're a smaller company and need help with staying compliant, especially if you have offices all over the world. If you have a big company, maybe their services won't be as useful. I believe that certain services offered by TriNet, such as help with remaining compliant, wouldn't be useful if you have an in-house law department or someone that specializes in the legalities surrounding employment.

TriNet is being used across the US. We have 87 employees currently utilizing TriNet. Because we only have 87 US employees, TriNet allows us to manage payroll and benefits for this region. Additionally, we can use TriNet services to gain additional insight or support, when necessary, on obscure HR issues that come up from time to time.
  • Account Management- Nicole P. is absolutely amazing and so supportive! Helps us tackle any hurdles that come our way!
  • Employee Experience on the App- TriNet's app is very user friendly and has a great layout to provide a good UX.
  • Operations- Alecia J. is full of knowledge to help us and is very quick to follow up and execute requests, which is always appreciated!
  • Benefits- TriNet benefits are a bit tough. The site used to create and compare models in preparation to select a funding strategy is severely outdated and not user friendly. Additionally, for two years running, we have seen increases in our plan rates of 15%+ which is unmanageable in the long term for a smaller company like us.
  • HR Support- In the last year, we have had 3 different HR Partners assigned to us. Two of the three created more problems than they solved and proved to be quite disorganized, unreliable, and lacked the knowledge to support our business effectively. That being said, Whitney M. is supporting us currently and she has been great to work with!
  • Resources for Employees- TriNet has many resources for Employers on how things work, but I've noticed that many times when we request promotional materials for employees, they don't exist (i.e. a flyer for the EAP or tips on utilizing benefits properly, etc.).
TriNet was great when we started out with them 6 years ago. Our HR support was awesome, they solved the issues we had with payroll and benefits administration, and we had a great relationship. Now, we have a good relationship with our Account Manager which has really been part of the reason we've stayed with TriNet, but also we were seeing a decline in the quality of HR support. (This does not include our CURRENT HR Support, Whitney.) The main issue we have with TriNet at this point is the significant increases we are seeing to benefits two years in a row that are based on TriNet's internal "tier system" that is in place. That increase on top of increased administration costs starts to be too much for a smaller business that is essentially a start-up. So, long story short, if a colleague were to ask me if I recommend TriNet, I would say yes, but only if they have a really strong HR Team internally and as long as they recognize that they would have big plan rate increases year over year. (This is especially true for companies with smaller employee populations.)

TriNet is used across our entire organization of 15-20 employees. They handle our payroll function - including onboarding new employees, our regular payrolls and employee transitions. They also handle all of our health care benefits program including medical, dental and vision. Finally, they provide us support for major HR issues that we must manage.
  • Payroll.
  • Employee onboarding and termination.

  • Site search could be improved.
  • Turnover with company representatives.
We use TriNet for our entire team of 15-20 for all of our HR functions. I think they handle payroll well (although it is not always intuitive, it takes some initial training) and benefits. Their reporting functionality has improved greatly and they've done a good job anticipating the needs of their customer base by being proactive in creating reports for the PPP loan program.

TriNet is used by our Finance/HR department. It addresses our payroll, benefits management, and HR employer partner needs.
  • The payroll submission process is user-friendly.
  • PTO accrual and usage is handled well and removes the need for manual tracking on my end.
  • When I have special HR requests, I typically get quick and detailed responses and support.
  • When I request information from my rep, there are time when they place the burden of research back on me instead of doing the leg work themselves.
  • I would like to see better response times when I have questions.
TriNet is a big help to us when it comes to payroll, PTO tracking, and HR support. TriNet could definitely improve when it comes to benefits management. The site for choosing your plan options if you have an eligible life status change is not easy to use and I cannot confidently select the best benefits options with the lack of functionality and information provided on the benefits site.

TriNet is being utilized across the whole organization. We utilize TriNet as a co-employer for volume purchasing power, HR and liability expertise, ease of payroll, available benefits, time and cost savings.
  • Benefits - Volume purchasing power allows TriNet to put together extensive plan choices; benefit expertise saves client time and money in both shopping for and administering benefit plans.
  • Payroll - TriNet will always ensure that employees are paid appropriately and timely and that all payroll taxes are submitted appropriately and timely.
  • Because TriNet corporate employees cannot be named as trusted advisors at a client location, HR Passport is not designed well to accommodate the former corporate employee who later becomes an employee of a client. With the number of work-site employees now co-employed under the TriNet umbrella, this issue needs to be corrected, as it will happen with more frequency.
TriNet fits well with a variety of industries. Payroll expertise can be extremely beneficial when a company has a variety of payroll classifications and/or a larger number of employees. From a liability perspective, there would certainly be some industries that TriNet, or any PEO, would most likely not want to contract, but a healthy mix of work comp codes is a positive. The relationship between TriNet and the client company works best when the client company is engaged and recognizes the expertise afforded to them.

We used TriNet for our 49 employees in the US; we would like to use it in the whole organization but TriNet doesn't support other countries, and we have employees in 5 different countries that use different software. We use TriNet for all HR/finance-related tasks like benefits, payroll, tracking PTO, and to e-verify.
  • It offers HR guidance, so we can ask questions about new legislation.
  • We got help with benefit elections with an on-site presentation.
  • Their "build your own report" doesn't work well. There are tons of bugs in their created reports that are wrong in several levels
  • You can't use "sick days" only for people that have them available; you will have to check manually that they still have sick days left or not use that label at all
TriNet works for medium companies, where you don't want to spend a ton of time with benefit elections and other HR tasks. There are so many competitors out there that I would find it hard to recommend them, but they do have more support than most of those companies that only offer software and nothing else, like legal advice

Systematic Financial Management uses TriNet across the whole organization. They handle our payroll, benefits, insurance and HR needs. They have taken the hard work of HR and Benefits off our plates so we can manage the business and get our employees better quality benefits at a much lower price.
  • HR
  • Benefits
  • Customer Service
  • Payroll
  • Expenses tracking
  • HR Training/Updates
  • Reporting could be easier to work with. Just started a new system but still working out kinks.
Our Account rep is the best thing about TriNet. She is always willing to help out when we have questions and will do everything she can to make sure TriNet meets our needs. She is knowledgeable and able to get quick responses so there isn't any delay in what we need to do. I cannot pick a specific scenario because she has so many great things that she has helped us with.
