  • Google Workspace (formerly G Suite)
While Google Workspace is cheaper initially, its feature set is not as robust and the end-user experience can't beat Microsoft's products. Integration with other products is also a factor and here Microsoft trumps Google Workspace again as it's pretty much the standard in office productivity suites with hundreds if not thousands of third-party products that work with it to enhance and improve what already is a great suite of tools.

I was not part of the selection process, however, I feel that it just makes sense for us to use Microsoft 365 rather than any other software out there. They are the industry standard for a reason, it has been around for a really long time (Microsoft Office anyways) and has a proven track record of being reliable and highly functional.

Microsoft 365 is a package with everything any user will need if they want to have quality of life on the enterprise environment. It's a complete suite capable of handling text, spreadsheets, slideshows, storage in the cloud, email service with great looking UI and improved storage/retention policies, as well as ease for handling technical matters that the on-prem version of exchange won't have.

I do a lot of graphic work for social media although I preferred Publisher for many many years it has not kept pace with some of the other web based tools out there such as Canva and Poster My Wall. Microsoft seems to be lagging in functionality in the graphics area.

Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365) is diverse and a lot of people use it. The alternative is rather limited in terms of use cases and acceptability in the industry. You will be surprised to learn some users have never heard of Google Sheets for office document processing. Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365) invested so much effort in making their product more acceptable and a go-to place for document processing and communications.

  • Google Workspace (formerly G Suite)
I actually prefer Google Workspace over Microsoft 365. However, Microsoft 365 is a reliable solution that almost everyone knows how to easily navigate. That's why it's used in government and other large corporations. It's always going to be there - and the navigation/layout does not change often, so it's easy for folks to update their software and continue knowing how to use it.

It's all about the network effect. Since everyone else at my school using Microsoft 365, eventually I had to bite the bullet and join the crowd. Using the officially supported file syncing and sharing solution solves a large number of problems right out of the box. Other solutions can do these tasks, but the overhead involved in getting them to work with users on other platforms is not worth it.

I haven't used many alternatives for Microsoft 365 [(formerly Office 365)], as Microsoft still seems to be the standard for office applications. I have used Apple's iWork applications (Pages, Numbers, Keynote), which I like quite a bit better for use on the Mac. They are better design-wise, but they don't offer an option for Windows users and don't really compare as far as a complete packaged office solution like Microsoft 365.

We have used Google Docs before and it does not have the same features as Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365). I know there are die-hard fans that will always prefer Google over Microsoft, but 8 out of 10 times, I will prefer a Microsoft product vs. Google and I ultimately love the Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive experience. We can access our data from anywhere and this makes things super easy for us.

  • Google Workspace (formerly G Suite)
Google Workspace does offer a lot of collaborative features, and I believe they offered multiple people editing the same document at the same time before others. And Google Drive and other storage competitors were superior to OneDrive. However, Microsoft has clearly invested heavily over time into the Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365) platform. I have been using Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365) since the beginning. It was quite rough around the edges. Management for admins was more cumbersome and required Powershell most of the time. The service also had stability issues in that first year. However, the platform is lightyears beyond what it was in the beginning. Uptime is rock solid. OneDrive is a benchmark now instead of lagging behind. Couple that with the email platform, Teams, and Sharepoint, and you have one incredible productivity sweet that just continues to get better. Yes, it is not perfect, but nothing is. But, I have consistently found Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365) to be reliable and it doesn't let us down.

I have used Gmail in the past. As far as the email goes, it is very similar, and you even get lots of additional tools; however, the integration with Active Directory is missing. And obviously you have to pay separately for your office license. As far as the actual email interface online goes, Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365) has a lot to learn from Google.

Notepad++ is a great, lightweight editor that doesn't have a same advanced features as Word, but has a very nice feel and can be better for simple text editing. Libre Office has roughly the same features as Microsoft 365, but the usability and intuitiveness is lacking. Microsoft 365 overall provides a more refined package with all of the features you need and then some!

I only used WordPerfect when I was in high school and it wasn't overall intuitive. We use Google Drive (Docs, Sheets, Forms) quite often but we know that it's not as full of features as Microsoft 365 but it's still good for quick internal documentation and collaboration.

Microsoft 365 provides a complete suite of tools, which none of the competition can match. Others can just offer piecemeal solutions, whereas Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365) covers everything ranging from email management to office editing software to cloud storage to online collaboration.

We have tried using an in-house Microsoft Exchange server as well but ultimately moved to using Microsoft 365 because it decentralized our email and gave all the users access to Microsoft Excel and Word programs at the same time. It also gives each user 1 terabyte of cloud storage for a backup of their files as well.

The programs in Microsoft 365 [I feel] are certainly better than Google Drive, as Microsoft Word and Excel have more features than Docs and Sheets. As Notepad is included with most machines, it is certainly limited so Microsoft Word runs circles around it. However, [I feel] Microsoft Publisher is no match for Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign, as they have many more features and abilities than Microsoft's design program.

Google Drive and Google Docs I believe is the biggest competitor to Microsoft 365. However, if you really want to unlock the power and potential in your business you need more horsepower behind you and that is what the MS365 suite of products provides. Google Docs is lightweight and while accessible and free it can only do so much. You really owe it to yourself to check out what Microsoft 365 can help you unlock.

Microsoft 365 [(formerly Office 365)] is an industry leader and for email, calendars, word processing, and file sharing is primarily out ahead of all the competition. The software is also so ubiquitous that everyone knows how to use it and it's standard with most people that you work or collaborate with. Having the software is essential if you want to work and collaborate with others, and it's a required skill for all employees.

  • Microsoft Office 2016 (discontinued)
No comparison, we can do more with Microsoft 365 and we are more efficient. The pricing model is very fair. We don't have to worry about updating the software on each machine, the updates are handled by Microsoft directly and the Microsoft 365 programs seem much more stable and the added ability to use them on smartphones and tablets cannot be overstated. It allows for productivity no matter where you are located.

We really haven't evaluated other Office-like productivity suites/collaboration tools, since Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365) does everything that our organization needs for the work that users do on a daily basis. This combined with the fact that it is the perfect suite/tool to be able to collaborate with both internal and external groups, means there is not a reason to look elsewhere for a tool to do this. Last is the fact that Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365) works well across multiple platforms, operating systems, etc.and there is not a need to search for something else that would take its place.

We picked Microsoft Office 365 because it was what our clients were used to, and it was easy to set up from GoDaddy whom we use for our web hosting, site design, and other services. It was also slightly cheaper than Google's app suite for the company, which was an additional perk.
