Fast to set up, but terrible website

TriNet is being used by our whole US organization to manage payroll, benefits, vacation time, and compliance. We have a small US presence, with currently only 4 US employees. We're a startup and our time is extremely valuable, TriNet let's us focus on running the business and minimizes our work related to payroll, etc. Especially important is that it handles compliance, each of our employees works from a different state and we have neither the time nor resources to manage the various nuances to state compliance.
  • TriNet takes care of everything related to benefits
  • TriNet's customer services team is prompt and courteous
  • TriNet handles all federal and state compliance issues and notifies us when there is something to address beyond their capabilities.
Cons
  • The HRPassport website is terrible, it's confusing, hard to use, and poorly designed.
  • Costs feel opaque and it's unclear if TriNet is competitive on cost, if another provider had the same features for a lower price we would switch to them.
  • The website is really really bad, it needs to be redesigned to compete with modern websites.
When customer services and quickly getting a solution up and running are essential use TriNet, it took us maybe a day to go from nothing to a full HR suite, that was great. A lot of new competitors have entered the market, so it is hard to say if the previous holds relative to current competitors.

Great Technology & Website Less than Optimal Human Component

I use TriNet for payroll and HR functions across our whole company. We're a startup and it has been very helpful. Ensuring that we stay compliant legally and allows us to offer benefits at a much better cost than if we had to source separately. Also, we are able to offer a robust benefit offering including 401(k), FSA, multiple health insurance companies, etc. I love how robust the website is.
  • The website is very robust. Most of what you need to do is accessible from the website, so you don't have to interact a lot with people to get what you need. A real benefit to me.
  • Benefits renewal has great data allowing you to determine what is competitive in the area. Something very important with unemployment rates as low as 2% in the Bay Area,
Cons
  • We have had 3 different HRBPs in the past year. 2 of the Human Capital partners went out on maternity leave. Obviously, they knew that the women were pregnant and were going to be going on medical leave, so why not assign someone who wasn't going to be going out?
  • A number of times I was given incorrect information WRT who to contact and how to contact them. (i.e. a check needed to be reissued from FSA. I was told I had to call to have it reissued. After waiting on the phone and multiple menus later, I was then told that I needed to email the FSA group, which is what I would have preferred to do in the first place!)
  • We were given an 8% increase in pricing 2 weeks after the new benefit year began. There was no negotiation, just a take it or leave it proposition. The way that it was done was very disingenuous, instead of letting us know that there was going to be a significant increase in time for us to contact other providers, they waited until we had no other option, but to have to take it. When contacted about the issue, the response was that it was only $XX per employee per pay period, as if to say that it was a negligible increase.
If you are looking for the technology and backend processing, TriNet is great. As long as you don't need advice or sample docs, TriNet is a good option. If you need a lot of hand-holding, sample documents, and information - things you can't search for on your own on the website, you will be disappointed and have difficulty (In my opinion).

We are a small startup with a team of around ten employees. TriNet offers incredible support and tools for us to provide to our employees. We are able to get the help we need when we need it. We are also able to understand what is considered competitive in benefit markets. The only downside is the platform is quite expensive compared to others that offer the same or better
  • Benefits
  • Support
  • User-friendly Platform
Cons
  • Price
  • not including 401k in the high prices
Prior to me being in my position and managing our TriNet site, the person in my position failed to properly document the relocation of an employee from one state to another. TriNet was very responsive whenever I brought it to their attention to get it handled. However, once they recognised the issue, it took months for the resolution to occur

We use TriNet as our HR provider and we use it for payroll. We also use it to track employee history and manage benefits.
  • Payroll is very user friendly and due date reminders are helpful as well.
  • Once entered payroll is processed fast.
  • Annual Health Insurance enrollment is also very user-friendly.
Cons
  • Personal time and vacation time earned by employees is not accurate.
Payroll is the big winner for me, it is easy and accurate. The tracking of employee accrued time seems to be troublesome.

Perfect for New Hires

My current company uses TriNet across the organization as a hub for information on employee benefits, company information, paychecks/pay dates, and training courses among other various features. As a recently onboarded employee, TriNet was used to review new hire documentation as well as fill out the necessary government documentation needed for a new job. This platform presents "tasks" to the employee to be completed and marks what has been done, what needs to be done, and what is still in a pending status.
  • TriNet outlines necessary tasks that are due and need to be completed within a necessary timeframe.
  • There is a chat feature that assists with any questions that might arise while using the site.
  • When signing up for benefits, it is easy to view and compare the different benefit packages and how they differ from one another in regards to the perks and monetary differences.
Cons
  • The benefits listed are more of an outlined breakdown with the facts about each package and monetary numbers. It might be more helpful to give a more detailed description of each plan and in which situation this would work for the employee.
Though I have only used TriNet for a short time so far, I would say that it is extremely user friendly and is appropriate for employees of a company in any given situation; whether that be they have been recently onboarded or have been with the company for a few years.
