What is DiscoverOrg (discontinued)?

DiscoverOrg was a sales and marketing intelligence tool used by technology vendors, staffing companies and consultants targeting IT, finance, marketing, engineering, technology and product development departments of Fortune-­ranked, mid­-market, and SMB companies in North America and Europe. DiscoverOrg specialized in mapping out org charts, including verified email addresses, direct-dial phone numbers, reporting structure, new projects and initiatives, and technology installed base.

ZoomInfo Technologies (formerly DiscoverOrg, which acquired and merged with ZoomInfo in 2019 and now operates under the ZoomInfo brand) has since combined all of the capabilities of the DiscoverOrg sales intelligence database into its flagship product, ZoomInfo. Readers interested in the DiscoverOrg database should investigate the ZoomInfo product instead.

  • We've been able to identify targets who have moved within an organization and therefore become a decision maker.

  • It is still a little early to tell here. I believe in a year or so once DiscoverOrg's platform has matured in my industry, we will see greater ROI. We will continue to get creative in how we use this solution.
  • I think if DiscoverOrg can speed up their timelines with requests we could see immediate returns. Having to wait 6 to 9 months for keywords to be added to the OppAlerts functionality seems extreme.
  • I have also asked for companies to be added to their platform and I did not receive a response. I have not lost my optimism around the solution but it's hard to prove ROI when we don't get updates on what is most important to our business.

  • Thus far it has at the very least made the data that we have in Salesforce much more reliable, as we have a lot of data that was imported may years ago.
  • I have actually been able to get into contact with multiple peers of leaders in targeted positions, therefore increasing the deal size of several deals in my pipeline.
  • Trigger alerts has made the timing of my outreach perfect for when budget has opened up within a company, which then led to several very short cycled closed deals.

  • Immediate results: Within two weeks of using DiscoverOrg, I was able to set up four meetings with companies who were listed as "actively searching" for HR software.
  • Time saved: I was able to 5x my outreach efforts in just two weeks by pulling reports with targeted, customized criteria. For example, Before outreach I was averaging about 200 emails per week. Now I'm averaging 1000.
  • More connects: With the accurate data on phone numbers, especially direct dials, I was able to connect with far more leads than I had in the past. I also didn't see as many "gatekeepers" getting in the way of me and a potential VP/C-suite lead because of these accurate direct dials.

  • Instantly saved us from having to resort to other marketing tactics to get in front of targets. For example, purchasing a one-time list rental of conference attendees for $5,000. Instead we will filter and build a list for people that meet certain criteria and send a slightly different message.

  • DiscoverOrg was nearly demanded of us by our sales leadership. While there was an existing solution implemented we ripped it out due to overwhelming demand by our sales team. So adoption was and continues to be fast and furious.
  • Enables our sales team to get up to speed on their accounts/leads quickly. Gives our salespeople more time to sell and specifically target.
  • Superior Customer Success and Support - our operations team always has its questions/issues resolved quickly.

  • Most of the "Triggers" were old information and generally pulled from crawling the internet
  • Many of the numbers listed were main phone numbers which could be found on the internet.
