  • Assigning a cost to each product. We purchase at different costs, and each sale gets allocated a cost from the purchase order.
  • Audit trail - Each product has a full audit trail with references. Each addition comes with a linked purchase order, each subtraction comes with a linked sales order, and each transfer has the costs of goods associated.
  • Sales channel aggregation - we sell on multiple sales channels, and the products are in multiple physical warehouses. The sales come through from a variety of reporting methods. Brightpearl assigns each channel its own data, and displays all sales in a central dashboard.
  • Filtering - All products and sales can be filtered by sales channel, location, type, category, warehouse and many others. It provides an invaluable real- time snapshot of inventory allocations.
  • Customer support - In my role as power user and troubleshooter, I am in contact with a support agent on average 3 times a week, and each time they are knowledgeable, responsive, and competent. All questions are answered, and issues are fixed immediately.
  • Warehouse workflow - Sales are consolidated into goods notes, allowing the warehouse to print a consolidated pick list organized by bay, and then print all the packing lists, on which the order items are clearly displayed.
  • Purchasing - POs are made within the system and emailed from the system. They can then be received and allocated from within.
  • Product Organization - Each product can be made with all of its important information, and similar items can be sorted by option value. It's clean and elegant.
  • Transfers - Brightpearl is aware of this limitation and is working on it for its next release. The process is extra long, requiring unnecessary steps.
  • Bundles - We sell products in multiple package sizes, and anything requiring bundling needs too much physical work. Allocation, transfers, and reporting needs to be automated.
  • Search - The search function requires exact spelling and there is no universal search. You need to decide what you are searching for (e.g. products, customers, sales, vendors etc.) before searching. Additionally, it isn't easy to search for an option value within a product when making bundles or transfers. You must search for the parent item and then look around until your item is found.
  • Sale Creation - to make a sale from scratch takes a lot of time and effort. It is better for recording sales than making them.

  • Information about any particular client is available easily, ranging from invoices & quotes to past history.
  • Regular updates mean functionality is continually being improved.
  • Sometimes updates do break a little bit of the system which can take a while to resolve if it's minor, but not very often.

  • For me it works great as a cloud based accounting system as I work outside the office a lot. I can access all of our customer files for reference.
  • We also use Brightpearl to manage our inventory and use multiple warehouses for keeping track of inventory in off site locations.
  • It is nice to have all of our pricing information in a system that allows us to update pricing and everyone in our organization immediately has the latest information updated.
  • On the accounting side we have had some issues with multiple currency entries.
  • It can be a challenge to deal with a large product inventory and so far we have been unable to batch update our inventory to set minimums to zero for items we sell but do not stock.

  • With Brightpearl we can accurately see profit margins down to order level so we can discount where possible to offer the best prices. Brightpearl’s analytics gives us the ability to create customisable reports that deliver the insights we need to make performance-driven business decisions right down to the product level.
  • We now only stock products which make business sense. We’ve cut down the amount of products we stock saving us warehouse space, and we can easily raise POs within Brightpearl when stock is getting low. We’ve also been able to optimize our shipping costs - we’re now offering appealing prices with the ability to ship further away to destinations like Scotland at a much better price for the customer.
  • Repricing products is easy with Brightpearl and we no longer have to physically check what’s in stock as we can see everything at a click of a button. We’re saving a huge amount of time, about 35 hours per month, as Brightpearl has streamlined our processes allowing us to focus on optimizing and growing the business.
  • Brightpearl doesn't allow you to archive OLD products which are no longer in use, so they show up in reporting.
  • Brightpearl would benefit from more reports, more robust reports as well which allow you to analyse even more data.
  • Brightpearl doesn't allow you to trigger emails when stock on certain products is running low. We have low inventory reports but would like emails when selected products are low on stock.

  • The "Tag" function allows sorting to determine customer status and statistics for routine reporting and market analysis.
  • Considerable flexibility is demonstrated with the column configuration options when reviewing client and sales data.
  • The Custom Fields tab allows us to gather and asses very specific data for client profiles and sales orders.
  • One feature which is not yet functioning is the calendar integration which would provide reminders of scheduled events at the scheduled time.
  • The manner in which colleagues from one company are associated is awkward at best.
  • If an error is made during processing of vendor invoices, it cannot be modified. This has resulted in convoluted "work arounds."
  • Searching products is very challenging and time consuming - room for improvement here!

  • Inventory Management - it's good, flexible, and robust...as long as you don't need to deal with fractional quantities.
  • Accounting - it's great because with Brightpearl being an ERP, it is fully integrated and minimizes the effort needed for this facet of the business.
  • Technical integrations could be improved. For example; Xero allows for direct connectivity to a wide array of online financial service accounts(banks, paypal, etc). Brightpearl is lacking in this arena, which means manual csv exports and imports must be done to pull transactional data into BP.
  • Fractional quantities are not handled well by Brightpearl's inventory management module. This is problematic for any manufacturer of goods comprised of quantities which are not whole numbers. This really needs to be addressed.
  • The UI could be updated to more modern standards, but it's not terrible.

  • Brightpearl is great for streamlining our email marketing, allowing us to use external systems (such as mailchimp) with our Brightpearl customer lists to send out relevant, targeted emails that get a much higher response and much lower unsubscribe numbers than sending out generic emails to all customers.
  • Brightpearl is great for our consultants and trainers (I'm a trainer) when we're on the road. We can easily enter and submit our work expenses on the move and can always come back to attach receipts etc. at a later date. I find this feature useful as I work away a lot and can get my expenses paid without having to head to the office to process them (which can sometimes be 2-300 miles from where I am working.
  • Brightpearl is great for maintaining our customer records. We have organised our customers using the tags in Brightpearl and have customised the data capture fields to gather the exact information we want and need about our customers. Plus, the fact we can record and trace our telephone and other conversations with our customers through Brightpearl ensures we have an easy job knowing where we are with each customer and we can feel comfortable handing over customers to colleagues who can pick up straight from where we left off.
  • We did use Brightpearl for timesheets which they got rid of recently so that was a shame as it stripped from us functionality that we were using.
  • A mobile app to have even more versatility to enter expenses / view customer records on the go would be great.
  • More flexible licencing structure would be great so small businesses can tailor access to a select number of employees without having to pay a lot extra for having access for more people than they need.

  • Ease of batch processing. Previously using other vendors, BP has made it easier for us to manage a higher order volume.
  • Simplification of order management. CEx constantly has requests to change orders, check order status, etc. BP has made that much easier.
  • Offers a great view of inventory across all channels. Can easily find what is where, which is crucial for an omni-channel brand.
  • Connection to other vendors. We frequently have to manually push in orders and figure out why things are not speaking across the systems.
  • Credits. Manually processing credits can be a bear when doing returns. Would love for this to be more automated!
  • Support. We feel as though it takes a while for BP to answer our questions, which is not ideal for an ecommerce brand.

  • Easy integration with the Magento platform. It was paramount for us to find a system that could integrate with Magento successfully and with ease.
  • The support team. As we are a small company, staff members are often moved onto different tasks or work on different areas of the company, the support team is a great asset as it provides quick responses for other members of the team that aren't necessarily trained in Brightpearl.
  • Training and implementation. As I was involved at the implementation process, I can say that Brightpearl provides thorough training with videos, documentation as well as webinars. The training is also recorded to train other staff members.
  • User Experience. The system is easy to use and everything is in one place.
  • In some ways, the user experience can be quite overwhelming as there are multiple places to find the same thing. This could be seen as a benefit though as then nothing is missed but I believe it is better to make everything simple and un-cluttered.

  • Quotations are very easy to stage, track and re-configure. We regularly re-use issued quotes and edit them, on the fly, which Brightpearl does really well.
  • The accounting function is bullet proof 'if' you spend time and effort ensuring your processes are logical. We spent many hours working on this element of the platform but now it's in place, it tends to provide near perfect P&L data.
  • The fact that BP is cloud based makes it simple to get your hands on important information any time, any place, any where.
  • Reporting is a well known area of Brightpearl which needs a lot of work. When creating or editing reports, the one thing you need to report on is, more often than not, missing which is very frustrating.
  • URL changes on each release make bookmarking a pain in the back side. I know there's a start URL but Brightpearl is the only platform I've ever worked with, and we work with many being a cloud distributor, which changes its underlying URL each time it releases new code. This needs to be fixed.
  • There seems to be an ongoing issue with PDF creating in the quotation engine whereby, for unknown reasons, PDFs end up being 0kb in size and are useless. We've raised this many times as I am sure others have also, but it keeps coming back.
  • Exporting and Importing products in particular is a time consuming and complex process made all the more difficult with restrictions on SKU counts and column naming issues. This needs more work for sure.

  • Brightpearl is somewhat quirky, but it generally does a very good job of managing order flow from our various sales channels for processing.
  • The notes feature on orders is very useful for keeping track of customer issues at an order level.
  • Unless a linkage breaks (which happens 2-3 times per year), Brightpearl is good at hooking into our different sales channels and providing a common backend.
  • Oh God. Little quirks in Brightpearl are horrible to get resolved. For example, if an employee who also had a Brightpearl login placed an order for himself on our POS, Brightpearl for the longest time would not import the order if the employee used the same email on the POS as on their Brightpearl login. When we contacted tech support, they said "That's just how the software works." There were many examples of this answer for problems. I believe these problems are slowly getting resolved, but slowly, and the poor attitude still rankles.
  • Tech support is generally fairly slow to react, even to large (not mission-critical) problems.
  • Tech support used to have a HORRIBLE attitude. They have gotten better in the last 6 months.
  • Brightpearl tech support used to pass the buck all the time. Got a problem with the linkage between Brightpearl and ShipStation? You could count on Brightpearl to blame ShipStation every time, regardless of who was at fault.
