  • Report on agile metrics to provide real-time, actionable data on team efficiency, quality, and overall performance
  • Integrate with all the tools their dev team is already using, from the rest of the Atlassian suite (Bitbucket, Bamboo, Fisheye, and Crucible) to other popular developer tools on-premise or cloud (e.g., GitHub and Jenkins).
  • Provide greater flexibility to curate which teams have access to which information with sprint and project-level permissions

Jira made sense for our checkbook as well as our needs. It's all about collaboration for us, it's our number one most important effort, and Jira does a lot in the way of collaboration. What we really love is that as we expand our teams, even our non-technical team members who need to submit cases to our technical teams are able to use Jira in a matter of minutes, even upon the first introduction to the tool.

I have used other tools like Trello, FogBugz, Bugzilla, Backlog, etc.

Overall JIRA comes across as a clear winner. Perhaps the only close competitor is Bugzilla since it is open source and has a lot of other features that have been built for it, even if by many different teams.

Overall, JIRA is robust, configurable and scalable.

JIRA does a good job and can integrate with other tools. Much cheaper than the big box tools, yet well established in the marketplace. Many integration points and plugins help, but make sure the best are used to suit the needs of your particular group and development teams using the product.

One similar tool I have used for sprint planning is Trello. In comparison, JIRA is much more feature rich and has a lot more functionality whereas Trello is pretty simple and straight forward. JIRA is an industry standard platform that is used by large and small companies worldwide, so it was an easy choice to make.

Flexibility. Our teams use JIRA in many ways and we've found it to be up to the challenge in nearly all cases. I would easily recommend JIRA to a company of the right size and complexity. It just may be overkill for teams that need only light project tracking and to-do lists.

TFS was very odd and cumbersome. Hard to understand where everything went and felt too much like a gant chart. Also very tough to get any non IT department to use and figure out. No ability to configure like you can with Jira. Also used homegrown solution which had same issues as TFS.

I like that you can visually monitor many projects simultaneously. I like that you can add tickets and issues to the system relatively quickly and easily. The tool is pretty intuitive and it only takes a few attempts before you understand how the system works.

JIRA is the ultimate in project management software. Nothing else out there comes close to a complete solution that is customization the way you want, and integrates with almost every other application out there.
You can write custom reports, you can set up workflows the way you need, and it's got a nice looking UI to top it off.

  • Agilefant

Comparing JIRA with other products, JIRA has more features. It shows more information in each issue, it is easy to use when you have users of functional tests that must enter the application to update the issues in tests or when they must enter acceptance criteria, the collection of information, add documents, perform the comments.

In addition to this, the control of the sprint and the backlog in JIRA is more comfortable and easy to use and modify, as well as the creation of new projects and the use of the time tracker to control the time invested as planned.

Though with JIRA you need to buy a lot of plugins but it is still cheaper than HP ALM or HPE Octane which is very costly. HP QC is a fully functional software lifecycle tool and probably strongest in its test management capabilities. But in Agile we don't need that extensive test tracking and management so JIRA provides basic tracking and reports that are apt for Agile teams. In HP ALM you can't open another window which is not a problem with JIRA. Also in HP ALM you can't copy and paste some repetitive tasks which can be easily done in JIRA.

Depending on use and knowledge, both Jira and Microsoft SharePoint allow for task management, file sharing, communication, reporting, etc. However, out of the box, Jira is ready to go, whereas SharePoint requires more customization to get to the same point. Although Jira could be made more user-friendly, it is far superior on initial first-time use.

Bugzilla would be useful if you don't want to pay for bug tracking but maintenance is a bit painful. We are using Gitlab as our repo, The way Gitlab is progressing, I think We can replace Jira with that.

JIRA support has been incredibly helpful with any issues that have come up, from technical glitches (few and far between) and increasing user knowledge of the capability of JIRA. The capabilities of JIRA are endless and can be adapted to fit nearly any organizations individual needs. JIRA also has a vast capability to integrate with a variety of software products used throughout many different companies.

  • Teamtrack
We used teamtrack prior to JIRA, and it was a very antiquated solution in comparison . It did not interface well with our other software, ran poorly in modern browsers, and was expensive. JIRA solved all those issues, and gave our company a much better overall solution for defect tracking.

As mentioned before, JIRA is a very big tool which also is the reason why we're using it for complex tasks in our company. Other project management tools are often easier to use and have a nicer UI but they simply don't offer the same amount of settings and features.

Jira has more many features, more ways to customize and many more options for plugins and integrations. It works on a much larger scales to meet a greater variety of needs where other products specialize or focus on simplicity of features and easy of use. Jira is better for larger teams and a greater variety of products where careful tracking is needed.

The main reason we chose JIRA over Trello was the ability to host on-premise. Security concerns with our data drove that requirement and is why we ultimately settled on JIRA. JIRA also provided us with integrations we needed to integrate with other tools that we use.
