Meets all accounting needs. Support is poor.

  • Good at handling most/all accounting needs; very customizable; little or no IT support required; strong revenue recognition module; works very well if used as designed and you are careful with your customizations; lots of add-ons also available to suite specific business needs.
Cons
  • Customer support by the vendor is not good - can be very frustrating at times for a lot of reasons, best to find a good third party support vendor and/or strong in-house administrator expertise; cloud based system is not for everyone - can be frustrating for accounting staff not comfortable with the cloud; can be a challenge/expensive if you want to bring high volumes of transactional data into the system.
If you're comfortable with the cloud, it's a great product. It is very customizable, but error towards keeping your instance as vanilla as possible as over-customization can cause problems too. Does a good job with revenue recognition.

NetSuite great product for smaller companies

NetSuite is used on a global basis, supporting all of our finance activities including invoicing, fixed assets, revenue recognition, general ledger and month end close. We have integrated NetSuite with other finance products to cover credit and collections, treasury, procure to pay and tax. We are using the multi-book accounting functionality to enable support of IFRS and US GAAP as well as a local ledger.
  • Look and feel of the application is attractive to the end users.
  • Majority of the functional needs are covered, including fixed assets accounting and revenue recognition without the use of third-party applications.
  • The SaaS platform has been very stable.
  • We've been able to configure or customize to meet our business needs.
Cons
  • NetSuite is targeted at small companies and lacks the levels of automation, integration and functionality needed in a larger (>1$B) multi national. Moving from SAP to NetSuite our finance team have found many areas which are now manual work which was automated before.
  • Limited capability to integrate with other products. We have to manually run reports into a file before we can integrate with a third party product as the contents of the report were not available in one of the interfaces NetSuite provides.
  • The built-in reporting capabilities are limited and building an interface to an external data warehouse is extremely complex as NetSuite doesn't provide a reliable integration method.
For a larger multinational company, I would have a much lower rating. Especially with the ownership by Oracle it seems likely that the product will become more focused on smaller companies.

For companies with less than a few hundred million of revenue or US only organisations, the ease of use and attractiveness of the interface will appeal to the finance community, and the manual effort will be more expected.

Challenging Salesforce integration.

  • Cloud access
  • Controls & change tracking
  • Revenue recognition
  • Allows us to store invoices, other documentation with a record, which makes auditing so much easier
Cons
  • The integration with Salesforce is more challenging than we’d been led to believe.
  • Implementation has taken longer than expected for what we believe was a relatively simple setup.

Great software, weak support.

  • Software has great functionality and very user friendly/intuitive
Cons
  • Support is severely lacking. When you have issues, it takes a lot of time and effort to get them resolved.
FinancialForce has the same robust capabilities with billing and deferred revenue, revenue recognition and that is the piece that drives us . Any software can do payables. Deferred revenue and billing are critical. FinancialForce out of the box integration with Salesforce.com is very attractive to us. Right now licenses to NetSuite are cost prohibitive in order to give to sales and account managers. Sales people and account managers would benefit from seeing data in NetSuite, e.g. billing, invoices etc. With FinancialForce, they can see all data in Salesforce.com without requiring licenses to FinancialForce. The second advantage of integration is closed orders flow and setting up contacts in NetSuite independent of Salesforce.com. Today this is a manual data entry process which takes 5-10 mins per order for existing customer, 10-15 minutes for a new customer as need to set-up the customer within NetSuite. I don’t know about the relative pricing for Financial Force, though I perceive the overall pricing would be cheaper because of access to data for account executives and account managers. Another potential benefit is international support relative to the NetSuite Enterprise edition that we are on. To get the international capabilities with NetSuite, we’d need to upgrade to OneWorld which is quite a bit more expensive. You need international user support. For us, it would be a brand new implementation and cost $50-60k. It would not treated as an upgrade. The go forward license model wasn’t all that different for current functionality, but were looking at added functionality. If international is a big priority, the scale is more tipped towards FinancialForce. International is handled using data from the same tables. NetSuite tables are currently different to Salesforce.com opportunities, and may show up differently due to foreign exchange rates e.g. $101k vs. $100k. This leads to foreign exchange reconciliation issues. Even if we had one OneWorld, we would still have this issue. However, the lack of SSAE 16 compliance was the factor that really stopped us from switching to FinancialForce. Because it is an early stage product, there was some items around billing, revenue that were less robust, but with our in-house Salesforce.com expertise, our IT team felt they could customize Salesforce/FinancialForce quite easily. We don’t have NetSuite expertise in-house. There would be synergy in our IT organization to having one platform. I think Financial Force will get there very quickly and then I think it will be difficult. NetSuitehas remained closed. There are not a lot of good consultants who work with it. By contrast, everybody knows Salesforce.com.

Great tool for incorporating entire company's data and financials

Rating: 9 out of 10
March 15, 2023
NetSuite is being used across the organization, mainly sales department (creation of opportunities and estimates), purchasing (creation of purchase orders and inventory management) and the finance/accounting team. It provides visibility across the inventory levels in various work shops and locations, facilitates product selection by the sales team based on item availability and forecast, is used as a communication tool between customer support and repair shop and customer through support cases flow, work orders and return authorizations. NetSuite's main use at our company, however, is financials and accounting.
  • Cross-departmental communication
  • Ability to create customer, vendor and partner centers in order to ensure alignment
  • KPIs and Dashboards that if used correctly are an invaluable tool for forecasting and trend analysis
Cons
  • Incentive compensation module is quite rigid, it is difficult to customize it to various commissions structures of companies.
  • UX is lacking.
NetSuite incorporates a universal tool that tracks your entire sales cycle from the moment of getting a lead and qualifying it into creation of the opportunity, negotiation and closing of a deal into the execution and delivery of the product or service, invoicing and receiving payment. It provides visibility across all departments and is a powerful tool for determining trends, strong and weak links within the organization. It is highly customizable and integrates with a myriad of software. Weaker, in my opinion, on the manufacturing side as well as WIP revenue recognition, otherwise a great tool.
